I love credit cards so much!

I have a question about the SW Companion Pass.

I will be earning the pass later this month after my CC closes and points are posted.

I need to book a flight for my son and myself for January. I have enough points to cover both flights. If I book us both using points, I will cancel his flight when I get the Companion Pass. How do I book his flight as my Companion?

Another question - how often can I change my Companion?

Is this a charge card or a credit card? I think I have the limit for credit cards (4). I am planning to cancel at least one after the first of the year but maybe I should do it sooner . . .

This is a charge card. I now have 3 charge cards with Amex - Platinum personal, biz and Scwab. I also have 4 credit cards with Amex - Everyday, SPG biz, Delta personal Platinum and Delta biz platinum. Hmmm, looks like I still have room to add the Merced’s Benz Platinum charge card. LOL

Once you’ve been issued Companion Pass, there will be a little button by your booked flight that says “Add a Companion”.

You can change your Companion up to 3 times per calendar year. Note that this does not include the initial designation - so you can select one, then change 3x in year 1.

Thanks. The son that will be flying with me probably won't need to fly with me again. My other son may need to fly with me in May. And I would like to be able to use my husband as a companion pass at some point too... So this would work even if I need to put son #1 back on -correct?

Thanks -- that's definitely easier since it's a charge card.

The AmEx credit cards that I need to decide about are the the Hilton (no fee) and Delta Gold ($95 AF). I've had the Hilton less than a year, and for reasons that I can't recall right now, I was thinking I should keep it a year before cancelling. The Delta Gold I have had a really long time (from when we lived in a city that was a Delta hub). The $95 is a waste, so I either need to downgrade (if it would stay the same account, for the credit history) or upgrade (for the skymiles, although I think it probably would be better to just apply for a higher level card directly). Anyone with advice?

Do DVC annual dues code as travel if I use my CIP for payment? Thank you

I’m not sure about CIP. But I can confirm they code as travel with the CSR and CSP. I would guess that they should on CIP as well.

LOL-I'm anxiously awaiting my MB platinum charge card so I can pay off property taxes (gotta find the silver lining in taxes, right?). I'll give it a couple of years and maybe then consider the Schwab...looks like we're doing the reverse :)

As others have noted, Amex is being very tetchy with anyone they perceive as "churners" or "gamers" so I would keep the Delta gold and downgrade (maybe to their new blue?) for your credit history. The higher level card (Amex Platinum Delta Skymiles) just ended its historical high offer of 70,000 skymiles so I'd probably wait until they had a high offer again. It's my understanding that if you upgrade you wouldn't earn the higher miles -it has to be s new product. As for the Hilton, if it's no fee I'd keep it for a while, again, there have been some reports of the RAT team freezing all Amex accounts if they believe you're gaming them. I wouldn't risk having that happen just to eliminate a no fee card. But that's just my 2 cents!

CIP/CSR code differently sometimes... for example, on plastiq, CIP still codes as travel for some odd reason but CSR doesnt.

Would it work to make a small payment and see how it codes when it processes?

So yes, i would make a small payment and see what happens. Then you decide what you want to do after it codes.

So why didn't I think of that?? Thanks all!!

Already have a great start to the weekend for travel hacking! After needing to replace several pieces of inexpensive luggage, the last couple of years, I figured I should invest in something a little more durable. Much research on luggage led me to the Travelpro Platinum Magna series. Mostly as a compromise since I couldn't come to terms with the cost of Briggs n Riley no matter how much I like their CX bags. I've been slowing adding pieces, one for checked and one carry-on. My carry-on was the domestic size and I found didn't fit quite right on a few planes in Europe even up front. So, I have had my eye on the international carry on size one which is in the neighborhood of $250. I was checking Amex offers this morning and hoping to see something for Ebags ... my kryptonite. Lo and behold there is an offer for 2500 MR for $125 on the Amex Everyday card. Ebags is at 20 AA miles per dollar through the AA shopping portal. AA is also running a promotion where you can earn up to 50,000 bonus miles through various partner participation tasks and I registered for the bonus offer yesterday. One of the tasks is shopping through the portal and if you earn 3,000 AA miles through the shopping portal you get 4,000 bonus AA miles. Well, the travel hacking stars have aligned just right for me to pull the trigger on this bag. So, I get the bag I want and 2750 MR points, plus 9,000 AA miles! I am so happy about this I could SQUEE!

So, if there are any other AA hostages besides me or Ebag addicts, here you go. Oh, to the Jet Blue peeps, I also saw an AMex offer for on my Everyday card for 4,000 MR points with $200 on Jet Blue.

I saw the eBags offer, and I thought of you. I was going to pop in here and mention it :rotfl:

We have the Baseline CX spinners. They are more than worth the cost- better than the invention of sliced bread IMHO.

Grrrr. Well, if and when my international Travelpro carry-on bag dies, I vowed to get a Briggs n Riley CX int'l carry-on spinner. I just couldn't come to terms with $479 for a carry-on bag. $250 was difficult enough but if that one doesn't last then I will bite the bullet.

HAHA! Thanks! I appreciate you looking out for me ;-)

I got the eBags Amex Offer on 2 of my cards, but $25 back on $125 for both. I'm totally going to jump on eBags gift cards with these offers and then combine them. I love it when eBags sales and rewards, shopping portal bonuses, and savings from Amex Offers align!

Google express didn't get my order delivered and when I called them they refunded the purchase but I'm still getting the item. I guess I can't repurchase and trigger the Amex offer again, correct? I'm still ending up way ahead but I wouldn't mind ordering the same item again since I need two.

Anyone know if the topcashback 20% offer is good for ebags gift cards? Or if gift cards work for AA or United miles via their portals?
