Disney's BOARDWALK INN Information & Questions

We will be staying at the Boardwalk for the first time in less than 3 weeks! We'll be celebrating our 20th anniversary. We have a standard view booked. Does anyone have any great standard view rooms they'd like to recommend?

We stayed in 2290 last week. We really loved it! The room was right near the lobby. Some rooms are a rather long walk, so we requested one on the second floor near the lobby. This room was larger than the typical room. It had a nice view of the courtyard. Very pretty! I've posted a few times on this thread, including some photos, probably back not more than a page or two if you're interested.

I have a cash reservation booked for a studio at BWV for September. I joined Touring Plans and now I'm a little overwhelmed as to what to request for a location? Any advice is welcomed.

Is it crazy to consider staying at BW without park hoppers? We were going to get them, but now that I see our plans taking shape, I don't think we'll have a lot of time to spend at multiple parks in one day. I think we'd rather spend that money on an extra like a dessert party or a signature meal, but I wonder if we will regret not having spontaneous access to Epcot. We tend to visit a single park late morning to close, and my daughter really wants us to make sure we have resort time, too, this trip so she can enjoy the clown slide. If anyone would use the hoppers for spur of the moment Epcot visits, it would be my husband who can't stand to hang out at a pool. He prefers to be constantly on the move - and swimming doesn't count, in his opinion. Is it possible to purchase a hopper for one person or must all in the party have the same type ticket? Thanks!

If you have a package, everyone has to have the same thing UNTIL you get there. But you can always upgrade a pass individually at Guest Services once you are there. If you are just purchasing tickets separate from hotel reservation, you can have whatever type of ticket you'd like, it doesn't have to match. Including # of days.

Thank you very much for this info. That is very helpful!

I think somebody already asked this, but I can't find an answer. How are the elevators on the villa side? Are they slow enough to warrant avoiding higher floors?

So when I request a room location, I could request one facing the main pool or village green? That's exciting!

Main pool, yes. Village green, no. All of the village green rooms are studios. Here's a map of every room in the hotel https://www.disboards.com/threads/courtesy-of-shamus-bwv-villa-locations-by-view.2931467/
You could possibly get anything that says 1 bedroom PV, not BW or SV though.

Does anyone know roughly how big the pull-down bed is in the studios? Can a small adult fit?

Can a small adult fit? Yes, my 5'2", 110lbs BFF fit, did she want to sleep there? Heck no! She said it felt like she was in a coffin and she's not claustrophobic. Plus she said it was uncomfortable.

Not crazy at all with out hoppers. We just went over Easter and our APs were blacked out but we had a blast without even stepping foot in a park.

No.

We stayed on the top floor on the Villas side last December. No issues with elevators. Once or twice we had to wait when there was a line, but it was never for long.

On Tuesday we will be checking in to BWI! A few questions:

1) Our flight arrives at MCO at 10:45. About how long will it take for us to find Magical Express and get to BWI? Do we need to reserve Magical Express beforehand?
2) I have reserved our room with my AP for the discount, but will need to activate my AP once I get there. My thought was that once we arrive, I can let the kids get some lunch at BW and I could walk over to EP to activate the AP, then come back and check in. Since our room probably won't be ready, we would have them store our luggage and then head over to HS for our afternoon FPs and our HBD dinner ADR. Then settle into the room at some point that evening. However, since check in is not until 3pm, perhaps I can not check in until after that anyway? In which case maybe I should skip the whole EP part and we should just head on over to HS? I am assuming that they will store our luggage even if we are not checked in yet?
3) We will be in a standard room, 2 queens with a child bed (5 of us). What are the standard amenities in the room? I'm only wondering so I will know what to pack or not in our limited suitcase space. Refrigerator? Microwave? Coffeemaker? I know there will be shampoo but how about conditioner?
4) I am thinking about doing laundry half way into our 11 days so we don't have to pack so many clothes. How easy is this to do? Are there typically washers available? Or are they typically in high demand? And I'm assuming they sell detergent in the laundry room?
5) Should I request a specific room or just let the chips fall where they may? I am assuming the standard rooms are not the choicest available, but maybe I am wrong.

TIA!!

I can only answer a few of your questions:

1) On average from walking off the planeto arriving at your resort it's about 90 minutes. It could be faster or take longer, but that's the average. You reserve DME online here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/airport-transportation-reservation/

4) They sell detergent in the laundry room. I usually pack some laundry pods and dryer sheets and use those. This site is a great tool to see what machines are in use/available: http://www.laundryview.com/disneyworld/

1) a)PP answered your question about how quick you get to the resort if you use Magic Express.

b) Did you want to skip baggage claim and have Disney bring the luggage to your room for you?
If yes, I think you need to reserve Magical Express in advance -- but you said you are arriving in 9 days, so I don't know if you have enough time. Disney would need to send you special luggage tags to indicate that your bags should not go on the baggage claim carousal.

If you want to grab your own bags off the carousel and bring them on the bus, I think it might be possible to use Magical Express without having reserved in advance, but I'm not sure. I would think it would be faster if you make a reservation in advance. I don't use it.

2) I wasn't aware that you had to activate your AP prior to hotel check in. But I have not been staying in a room that I booked with the AP discount.

Normally, you can "check in" whenever you get to the hotel (as long as it's after about 7:00 am). You don't have to wait until the official check-in time. But by "check in" I mean wait in line at the registration desk to have them process your arrival. The time that your room will be ready depends on the time that the prior guest checked out and the time that Mousekeeping was able to clean it.

People do online check in all the time and that's done before check in time on arrival day.

3) I always stay in the Villas, not the Inn. I believe it's yes to the fridge, yes to the coffeemaker, no to the microwave at the Inn. At the Villas I got shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion, facial soap and bath soap.

4) PP answered this one.

5) Standard advice is that if you want to make a room request, you tell them what you want, not a specific room. If you request a specific room and it's not available, the room assigner will not know what it was that you liked about the room you requested. If you want to make a room request, call 407-W-DISNEY or your travel agent soon. I believe they may have started assigning rooms already for your stay. If not yet, then soon.

Technically @kkbrig doesn't need the yellow tags for Disney to deliver the luggage. The claim tickets (the bottom of the white strip they put on the luggage) would need to be given to the check-in for DME and then Disney will deliver the luggage to your resort. Or you could also just get your own bags and have them put on the bus. Whichever you are more comfortable with.

We arrive around 10am and have a car service with a grocery stop. If we buy items that need to be refrigerated, but can't check in until later in the day, does bell services have any place where we can store our stuff that needs to stay cold (I'm thinking cheese, hummus, fruit, veggies sort of thing)? Or maybe we'll need to bring a collapsable cooler bag to throw stuff in?

Bell services is able to take care of both refrigerator and freezer items. We get groceries delivered every trip through garden grocers and bell services stores it appropriately for us until we get back from the parks.

Awesome-thank you! So good to know!

Bell Services at BWI is awesome! We loved them during our recent stay. They were some of the friendliest guys we've encountered at any of the resorts we've stayed at. By the end, they even knew us by name. :) They refrigerated for us both groceries on the day we arrived as well as a bag for us on the day we were departing (we checked out at 8 AM but didn't have a flight until evening).

Actually, the elevators on the villa side are quite fast. Never had a problem with three too choose from.

Mos of these have been answered.
1. I timed it on 7/23. It was 96 minutes for us. YMMV.
2. You can check in whenever you arrive. Your room probably won't be ready until closer to 3 PM, but you can check in at any time. Or you can use the online check-in. Bell Services will store any luggage until your room is ready. We were brand new AP holders this trip and had not activated our passes before check-in and we were fine. I don't know if it makes a difference, but we did online check-in.
3. Refrigerator and coffeemaker. Our bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, facial bar, and bath bar as well as a "vanity box" (cotton balls and a nail file, I think) as well as a "shower box" (shower cap and hair tie).
4. Laundry is on floor 3 of the Inn side. You'll go right off the elevator, and it will be directly in front of you. You will need to pay with a credit card not a MagicBand. We waited 5 minutes for a washer mid-day. One washer was broken. There are more dryers than washers, presumably because a wash cycle is 30 minutes and a dry cycle is 60. The laundry room sells a free and clear detergent and a fabric softener. It's expensive to buy them. We brought a few of the laundry detergent 'pacs' in a small plastic container and used those.
5. It's too late for any room requests now, but if you're not happy with what you're assigned, talk to them when you check-in and find out about changing. The hallways at BWI are very long. We requested (and were assigned) a room near the elevator.
Enjoy your stay!! It's a delightful place to stay!
