Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I have a question about the point-to-point rid-ability of the gondola. I've annotated and cropped an image from MousePlanet as it was the clearest image I could find. Here are my notations:

T - I believe that this is just a turn location and not a place that a guest could get on/off.
1 - International Gateway Station
2 - Riviera Station
3 - DHS Station
4 - CBR Station
5 - AoA-Pop Station

My question are around the "lines" that I have (noting this just for this discussion as I don't know how these systems work).
Red - Epcot/Riviera Line
Purple - Riviera/CBR Line
Yellow - DHS/CBR Line
Blue - AoA-Pop/CBR Line

Let's say I'm at Epcot and want to go to DHS, can I ride continuously without departing? Or, in this scenario, do I have to ride the "red line" to Riviera and then exit and get on the "purple line" to CBR and exit and finally get on the "yellow line" to DHS? If this isn't the case, what about the situation when I'm waiting at the Riviera Station to go to Epcot and all the gondolas coming from CBR going to Epcot are already occupied?

Or does each gondola simply go from:
1-2-4a-3-4b-5-4c-2-1
to complete a loop

Hopefully the scenario and makes sense... either way, there seem to be problems.

The Riviera station is also supposed to be a turn building with a station. The main CBR station will be the maintenance building as well. You can ride in the same vehicle from Epcot to CBR but you will need to depart and board a new gondola to go to DHS.

So exactly what I thought... if there is a mass of CBR guests loading at their station to go to Epcot, then all of Riviera resort guests are standing waiting for an empty gondola to "magically" appear. #fail

or they have to get on at Riviera and go towards CBR, stay on there, continue back to Riviera (stay on) and get off at Epcot. #fail

my point is, if you aren't at an end station, you could simply just be waiting until someone decides to get off.

Has that been confirmed, or just speculation? Because I don't think there's any technical limitation that would prevent cabins arriving from Riviera from continuing on to either DHS or Pop, depending on how the station is configured. In all cases, the cabins will have to come off the Riviera rope onto a track, and it's just a question of whether that track routes them back onto the Riviera rope or onto one of the other ropes.

This is true, unless Disney limits loading to ensure that some percentage of cabins coming into midway stations are empty. Obviously, that's most likely to be necessary in the morning, when everybody is traveling to the parks.

No it's not confirmed but that's how everyone has said it will be and it makes sense. I can't seem them being able to have it continue from Riviera to DHS based on everything that is supposed to be in that station.

While possible, would that mean the occupants would need to declare their destination... and wouldn't that potentially lead to too many cabins on a single line?

I can't fathom them intentionally allowing a cabin to leave a station empty.

No, I meant having all the cabins arriving from Riviera continuing on to DHS.

My memory's not totally clear on this, but I think I have seen them restrict some cars on the Resort Monorail for Guests boarding at a particular resort.

I've never seen that. Not sayings it's not happened but when I was there in June on the resort line the cars were packed and I had to wait until the next monorail at the poly. We then went to the GF where people waiting there had to wait for another monorail.

One way they could handle this is to send empty gondolas through from CBR at peak times. This could be done by just keeping people from boarding every third or fourth one.

In the videos I've seen there are several gondolas moving through the station. People are boarding almost continuously, so they'll hardly be impacted by an empty gondola going by.

ETA: I see this has already been brought up. Sorry.

I really think that would hardly be noticeable by people waiting. The lines to load these would almost be constantly moving. It's not like waiting for a monorail.

As hard as that situation is to fathom, I think an even less likely situation is for Disney to have people at the Riviera standing around watching everyone else go to Epcot.

Do you guys think there might be as some point an Express Route that goes from Epcot to DHS or vice versa like there is the Express and Epcot Monorail? Apologies if I have just forgotten if this was already a plan and I'm not remembering it. I'm just wondering if they are trying to keep this as a resort oriented mode of transportation.

I think a direct DHS to Epcot route isn't needed really. You have the boat, buses from resorts, and the gondola as well as a walkway. I'm not sure there is the space/feasibility for such a route.

Which makes perfect sense :-).

I had just wondered if that was even on the radar just looking at the map an all. It got me thinking about the space constraints and the other modes of transportation too.

Thanks for the reply!

Does this equate to two separate lines?
Epcot-Riviera-CBR (my red/purple)
DHS-CBR-AniPOP (my yellow/blue)

Or three lines?
Epcot-Riviera-CBR (my red/purple)
DHS-CBR (my yellow)
CBR-AniPOP (my blue)

The volume of people who will travel to Epcot from AoA (1120 family suites + 864 rooms), Pop (2880 rooms), DHS and CBR (~1400 with demolition) will be huge. I can't see them leaving empty gondolas, but I can't see them allowing a back up at Riviera. I guess they can monitor the need and communicate to leaving some empty?

Glad I'm not in charge...
