6/4 - The Day We Didn't Want to Go Home - California Grill Brunch
We got up early today to pack up the room, take a walk around the lake a few times and get ready for another reservation we were both excited about...California Grill Brunch. We arrived a bit early to our reservation, after taking the bus over and deciding to walk from the MK to the Contemporary. Noted the new security measures and screening along the pathway on the way to the resort. We also encountered bag check and screening when we left the GF on the monorail en route to the Contemporary earlier in the week. So scary to think of how our world has changed and the new world our children have to grow up in.
Back to our Brunch, we were quickly escorted upstairs...really no line, why do you have to bother to take my cell phone number and buzz me less than a minute later that our table was ready to go up??? We were greeted with a mimosa each and a quick tour of the buffet service. I did note that the sticky buns, scones, biscuits are now located on the buffet and not brought to your table pre-plated any longer.
So first up...My DD loaded up her plate with sushi and cheeses and I totally missed that shot, while my first plate looked like this:
So from top center I had...Country Cheddar Biscuit, a yummy Spinach Salad with Pears and Nuts, Flatbread, Cheeses, Sopresota and Salami, Fresh Honeycomb, Salmon and Capers, Mini Fruit Salad (I had two of these) and a Gluten-Free Cranberry Scone. I really enjoyed everything on my plate and went back for seconds on the fruit and some of the cheeses. The only things I didn't like were the biscuits and flatbread (too dry!) My daughter went back for a bit more sushi and cheeses as well.
Our waitress took our orders but waited until we were ready until she put in our orders. For our entrees, we both had:
Grilled Hanger Steak...Two Eggs-Any Style (She had over easy, I had scrambled), Chimichurri, Marble Potato Hash, Charred Red Onions.
As you can order, additional entrees we also enjoyed one
Blueberry Pancake
Buttermilk Pancakes, Florida Blueberries, Vanilla Custard, Blueberry Compote, Powdered Sugar, warm Canadian Maple Syrup
and split a large order of bacon that we ordered as a side.
There was nothing about this meal that we didn't like...the atmosphere was beautiful, with a two-piece band playing, the mimosas were plentiful, the food just about perfect, and the view amazing. I was a little surprised at how dressed down people were...we dressed up a bit for our fancy brunch (sundresses.)
As brunch also includes desserts and we were way too full, our waitress boxed them up for us...
Macaroons, chocolates, mini-cakes and truffles came home with us to enjoy later that night. We were so full that all we had was a light salad at the airport and one or two of these goodies when we got home.
Best of all our brunch gave us the opportunity to enjoy this view one last time...
What an amazing vacation...looking forward to our next stay! I usually have an idea when we will return when we are leaving but we might use our DVC points for a cruise next year or visit to Hilton Head. Thanks for following along on my first dining report...this was fun!
