It's my understanding that as long as my travel dates are within the FD then I would get it for my whole trip so if FD is offered on the 12th but my check in is on the 10th I will still get it for those days.. no need for 2 reservations. If I did 2 reservations then I wouldn't get it for the 1st one.
You'll only get it for the whole trip if your date falls within the dates it's offered but goes past the end date. So for example if FD was offered Sept. 15th to Sept. 30th, and you check in on Sept. 28th staying until October 6th, you would be covered until October 6th. If you checked in on Sept 14th, that date would not be covered and you have to book a split stay for that one day. Does this help?

right, but there's only 2 of us and we are paying our own way each. So what I'm saying is the cost to upgrade for each of us would probably be worth it considering the meals we would get out of it.
oh sorry I missed the 2 people part - just picked up on the 4 - maybe I should go have some coffee :)

We did the Christmas meal at H&V and loved it - food was good, characters were so fun.

However don't forget to include tips when you factor the upgrade cost...tips on the $$$ meals really add up. We've always upgraded to DDP because we love having a sit down meal, but stay value.

Yeah we are thinking about tips as well. Since we are splitting costs between the 2 of us it really isn't going to be a factor in our decision regarding upgrading. We are currently planning a stay at POP and upgrading to DDP. That's our "ideal" plan, all depending on what happens Monday :rolleyes1

Hello DIS Boards! I've been stalking this thread since early March, but I couldn't resist posting any longer. Your general politeness and willingness to help your fellow travelers inspired me to post!

I grew up in California, but moved to Massachusetts in 2014. A couple of my friends from California and I were planning a trip to WDW for May, but they're staying off-site and weren't really interested in doing much planning because that's not how it works at DLR. Unluckily for me, I tore my Achilles last year and ended up having surgery to repair it three weeks ago - so I had to cancel the May trip. This is me: :crutches:

Luckily for me, I have an amazing older sister, who decided that our first time at WDW should be together (because our DBfs would be sticks in the mud)! Our dates are September 4-13! Oddly enough, we didn't know about FD until AFTER we picked our dates. It was sheer coincidence that we made our hotel reservations 184 days before our vacation. Those three or four days were spent on YouTube, watching past and present episodes of the DIS Unplugged to figure out the best places to eat. I was able to wake up at 6 AM at 180 days out and get all of the ADRs we wanted.

Our current budget includes dining costs, but if we can get FD, we'll take it! We're currently staying at CBR, but already have plans to book WL on Monday if we can't get it at CBR. I'm hoping to be able to fall asleep at 8 PM or so on Sunday night and wake up at 3 AM. My sister still lives in California, so she'll be able to check before then. I'll be around with the rest of you Monday morning, hoping to celebrate the FD that comes our way!! pixiedust:

My only dilemma is if we get QSDP for free for our 4 night stay it would only cost us EACH $84 to upgrade to DDP and H&V would cost us around $65 including tax & tip each OOP.
When you're doing the math, make sure you factor in tip on the ddp as well, since that is not included at the restaurants you're interested in.

Oh no, this throws a curve ball! So glad I know now!

I am in the same "quandary" as others, to upgrade from QSDP (staying at POP) or leaving it as is - our cost would be $148 each for 7 nights - we plan to eat at Biergarten, Ohana, Prime Time, and France or Japan so far and probably a character lunch or breakfast. I tried explaining to DH last night but he wasn't in the mood to talk Disney (I know how dare he!) Am i wrong to think, that if planned OOP is at $150 we might as well upgrade since we would have another 2 TS for use? I know this seems like simple math but the waiting and stress really has my brain on this one

Hi everyone :)

I keep seeing things about FD not necessarily saving $. I don't quite understand how that is possible. Do room rates go up?

I'm looking at 5 nights at WL in December...2 adults and 2 kids with dining plan and park hoppers....It comes out to about $5300. How could FD not save $? If I take the dining plan off the price drops $1,000. Is this not how it all actually works out if FD is offered?

I just joined the board but have become addicted to checking it each day for the past month. We are booked for our 4th WDW trip for June. I know we won't get free dining for that trip but I still follow this board daily (or hourly ) I'm afraid that if I see dates that look good for FD, I'm going to book another trip. My husband will not be happy with me... We did have FD in June of 2011. I wish they'd offer that again!

Does anyone know what happens if you manage to get free dining with x number of people for y number of days, but not all of x number of people are going to stay for the full y number of days?

Last year we had QS free dining. One of our family members left 2 days early to get back for work. We were able to use the dining credits because they were linked to the room, not a certain person.

If you really want to do all those TS meals, then yeah, you might as well upgrade.

But if you just want to do 3 TS meals, I would just pay oop with the $296 you have from not upgrading and then you'll also have 2 quick service meals as well. You'll have a ton of food!

So are we just going with Dad doesn't know what he is talking about? This gave me a mild heart attack before bed last night, but would be such bad news I decided to go to bed and ignore it.
Uh oh, I dont log on for a day and the forum jumps about 25 pages. What was said? Any new information? Are we still going with what Black said to be true?

If you compare free dining discount to NO discount at all of course it will save money. But sometimes with circumstances like 2 adults and a deluxe and people who don't eat that much or where food is not that important to them then a room discount will be better for them $$$ wise. Also, some people are also comparing an offsite stay.

If you book a split stay, just make sure you do some research about it. You'll need the tickets attached to your FD package, so if you do a room only you won't have access to FPP until you get down there and can activate your tickets early.
