Mickey's Very Merry Holiday WEIGHT LOSS Party! December 2016

Hi all! I just replied to a bunch of you and then lost it all in a freak throwing of my phone across the room when I saw a spider. The spider is no longer alive and the phone and wall have only slight dents. So rather than try again I'm just going to say Merry Christmas Eve and Happy Almost Hannukah!

Sorry to have disappeared again. I was slammed at work all week and husband came down with the flu so I've been working and caretaking and all that other fun stuff! The good news is that DH is feeling much better and I don't seem to have succumbed. My germaphobic (in a good way) has even cleared us to attend tonight's family dinner. Yay!

I weighed in this morning another pound down so still at 100% of goal!!!!! I think I'm going to make it provided I don't succumb too much to the siren song of the latkes.

Good morning! Sorry I haven't posted a QOTD for today but I'm sitting in the waiting room at the doctors office with my son. He has had some wheezing and coughing since he has been home that we chalked up to allergies but he couldn't sleep last night because he can't take a deep breath. I knew when he agreed to go to urgent care or the ER that he was worse. So here we are. Thankfully I got most of my last minute stuff done yesterday so I felt free to go with him rather than send DH with him. Plus DD graciously offered to do whatever I need to get done while I'm gone. All I really have left to do is to decorate the dining room table for Christmas Eve dinner.

Anyhoooo...I'll be posting a belated holiday weekend QOTD later today.....P

I hope it is not anything too serious with your son. Being sick for Christmas really stinks. My son sick a few years ago and we had to cancel everything.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!! Santa just left our house and I feel like we can finally relax after a hectic few days.

I think I might have broken my pinky toe this morning. :( It's huge and purple but aleast it doesn't really hurt anymore. Thankfully it doesn't bother me to run either. Of course this has to happen in the last 2 weeks of training.

I've done good maintaining this week and am still at 100%.

@pjlla I hope you had a good outcome at urgent care! Your family will be in my prayers.

Well Christmas is pretty much done here! I am feeling ok about my eating today - I indulged in some more chocolate than I have been having this month but the rest of my eating has been pretty good and not overindulgent at all - one serving at lunch - and for dinner left over prawns followed by Christmas Pudding and cream. No major snacking apart from the chocolate. So all in all food wise pretty good. It was a rainy mild stormy Christmas Day - which in the end I kind of enjoyed as the temperature was mild rather than sweating ourselves through the day. Everyone was happy with their presents - me included - my parents gave me some really nice earings that I had admired last year and some $$ to spend on myself. It was a very relaxed day ... with some catching up with the neighbours on the street while the kids played cricket. Hoping for some rain free weather over the next week so we can take advantage of the new body boards or boogie boards as we mostly tend to call them ... (not sure what you call them over there haha) the kids got and water inflatables.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a tidings of joy for those who celebrate other holidays!

This is our last holiday of the year before we start to head into the New year. Can you believe that in 6 days we will be in 2017?! Woah!!

We are recovering from flu here, so... it's not been too much of a fun weekend. But tonight is Christmas with Brian's family so that'll be interesting. ;)

Hope it doesn't cause you too much trouble. Can't imagine running with broken toe being a good thing, please check it out!

I got lovely wallet from my husband and really nice workout tops and things I need to return and exchange from my in laws. I wish we have athleta in Ireland, delivery costs are insane and when you add duty we pay double but nothing else fits me as well!

It will be 2017 this Sunday!

I ate way too much yesterday. I am so glad it's only one day. The good news is I didn't enjoy it. I didn't like eating as much. I didn't like snacking when I am not hungry. I have no desire to eat like this anymore.

I have been adding my calories and I am about 2600calories over what balance should be for the month. I intent to cut it here and create modest deficit next few days (shoot for 250 to 450 calories daily). I am not sure how to rate myself. I have kept active, I kept tracking. I am happy with how are things going. Not over the moon that I am nearly pound of weight worth of calories over, but compared to past years I am fully aware of where I am at, and will probably have the slimmest 1st of January on record since I am using MFP and I know what needs to be done. There is no out of control eating, this doesn't count, it's only one day, I will start 1st of January type of thinking. It all counts.

I am looking forward feeling hungry and eating the right amount today.

Good morning all! So sorry that I didn't make it back on here the last two days. DS was diagnosed with allergenic asthma (which he had already self-diagnosed). He ended up with a Ventolin inhaler to be used as needed and a steroid inhaler to start using if the Ventolin isn't helping enough. So far we've held off on the steroids, but glad to have them on hand, just in case.

Christmas was nice and low key. Christmas Eve we went to 4pm church service, drove home in icey conditions:crazy2:, and had dinner on the table within 15 minutes of the 7pm scheduled time. The roast was cooked a bit more than we would like (tried a new method), but it was tender and tasty (thank goodness.... I paid a boatload for it and would have been beyond disgusted if it wasn't). The twice-baked potatoes were my best batch ever, if I may say so myself! They were large, so DD and I shared one. We had three desserts, each one sweeter than the next. It was a bit much, but we were trying to make everyone happy. I say next year we just buy a carton of ice cream! But I'm not complaining.... DD did ALL of the baking! It is just hard to have them temptations here! We decided last night to take the remainders and make up a dessert tray for New Year's Eve and pop it in the freezer until then. Keeps the temptations at bay! Since we will be at the hotel in Pennsylvania for the wedding then, there will be people to share all of the goodies with.

Like Happy Grape said, I cannot wait to feel HUNGRY and eat a REASONABLE amount today....by 10 pm last night I was craving an apple or some broccoli. Everything was delicious, but I just didn't need it all.... sweets, wine, carbs... you name it. I didn't go overboard on any one item (well.... may be wine), but even just a little of everything is a lot!

It is Monday, so I will be posting results tonight.

If it is warm enough I plan to talk DD into taking a walk with me later.............P

Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas. I am often astounded at how much more things cost here in Australia or to buy from Australia - so I feel your pain there! Hope you had a good eating day today - as you say Christmas is only once a year and favourites are to be enjoyed. I am starting to recognise that satisfied feeling rather than full or overfull now and like you say I am noticing that I am not liking that feeling a little more and it is helping me learn to stop more often.

Glad to hear he got to the bottom of it and got the medication for it - it can be scary. My son developed Asthma a few years ago it was undiagnosed at first and he then got sick and felt like he couldn't breath at school it had turned into pneumonia. And I had taken him back and forth to the doctors they didn't catch it straight away. Over here in Melbourne a city which is 2 states away from where I am - they had a thunder storm about a month ago and it caused 8 deaths from what they called 'Thunderstorm Asthma' - there are lots of gardens around the city of Melbourne and it was thought the storm stirred up lots of pollen and allergens into the air causing respiratory distress for thousands - the hospitals were overrun and the they basically ran out of ambulances and police and fire fighters had to respond to calls for ambulances.

Sounds like you had a lovely family Christmas - glad you were able to drive safely on the ice - we saw some more of the accidents and weather conditions over there on the news here yesterday.

What memory from this holiday will stick with you the longest?

I think my DS12 creating a sleigh being pulled by reindeer with shortbread biscuits and chocolate reindeers! He and DD probably not really believing anymore but also still wanting to hold onto that part of childhood and Christmas magic.

REPORTING IN - I am at 81.48%.

Good morning friends! Happy peaceful Monday!! So nice to wake up and just have a day off. I'm feeling very happy today for no good reason. I'm just in a good mood and it makes me realize how rare that has been for me lately. Hints of things that need to change in 2017!

Ongoing report in - still at 100% for the month!

We had a lovely time at my parent's dinner on Saturday evening and spent most of yesterday just lounging around before going hyper-traditional and having Chinese for dinner. Delicious but I can tell I'm definitely a bit over salted today.

We leave for a few days with the in-laws tomorrow after work. Deep breaths. I try and try and try but they just aren't my favorite people. but that is tomorrow's worry and doesn't belong to my happy Monday!

Merry Christmas Everyone!!! Santa just left our house and I feel like we can finally relax after a hectic few days.

Oh no! I broke my pinky toe a few years ago and it hurt so bad at the moment of impact that I let out a stream of curse words that I didn't even know I knew. It did heal quickly and I hope yours does too. Not a great thing to end your training with but I'm crossing fingers for you!

I hope its not too serious and he is ok - sending prayers for you all.

Poor son! I hope the inhaler is working and he is feeling better. Christmas dinner sounds delicious. I love twice baked potatoes!!

QOTD for Monday, December 26, 2016:

What memory from this holiday will stick with you the longest?

Walking back into my parent's living room after dinner on Saturday to find my dog - a therapy dog who volunteers with my husband at hospitals and schools and is normally rock solid trustworthy - passed out on top of the coffee table next to empty plates of various snacks and treats. Followed by mom shreaking "Is she dead? That's my good platter!" At which point the dog sat straight up, still on the coffee table, and started howling.

The dog is fine. The platter is fine.

What memory from this holiday will stick with you the longest?

My memory is probably going to be listening to the kids screaming. I don't remember them freaking out like they did this year on Christmas morning. DD5 screamed as she opened every gift from a pair of slippers to a hatchimal. It was hilarious. DS1 got a Thomas train that he can ride on with a track and that gift was the biggest hit, even the 10 year was riding it. So many wonderful memories!

It looks like my toe is doing much better. It is much less purple and only slightly bigger than the other one now lol. It still hurts to bend it all the way but I think I might have just jammed it.

@pjlla I'm glad your son is doing better!

@MinnieLovesTigger your dog story was hilarious I LOL'd when I read it!!

QOTD for Monday, December 26, 2016:

What memory from this holiday will stick with you the longest?

we did charity appeal boxes for homeless. After seeing and getting what's on their wish list, I felt really calm and ... even more. I couldn't care less what my husbands family thinks of what I buy for them. They never like anything I do, so I gave up trying!

Last year I gave my MIL restaurant gift card and smelly candle set. She asked me for return receipt for the candle as she doesn't like smelly things. It was yankee Christmas candle set but I didn't keep the receipt! This year she got gift card and that's all.

Very belated Christmas/Hanukkah wishes from me!! I am still struggling with getting back into a healthy living modus - and that includes being active on this thread. I hope everyone had wonderful holidays!

@pjlla I am sorry your son had his first asthma attack on Christmas! I am happy to hear that he is doing better. I was diagnosed with allergic asthma 14 years ago and it is definitely manageable. Don't be afraid of the steroids. The modern ones for inhalation are far less agressive than the original ones and have far less side effects. I have discussed this topic with various doctors and they all seem to agree that the most important part of an asthma treatment regime is to kee the inflammation away as that can cause long term damage. And steroids are great for that. Did he get a peak flow meter? It really pays off to use that regularly in order to catch any change early on.

QOTD:
I am afraid the thing I will remember the most of this Christmas is the massive migraine that I had on December 24 and 25... But besides that, going to a different church for the service on December 24 (Christmas eve is more important here in Germany than Christmas day) was really wonderful. It was just a different church building, still part of my congregation. But instead of going to the big church, we went to the smaller chappel inside the cemetary, which is older really very beautiful. It was a wonderful place for a Christmas service!

I can also add something for older QOTDs...

I did ask for a Withings scale. And I got it!! It measures body composition (as well as weight) and that was important to me as I struggle so much with my crazy weight swings. I hope that seeing that my body has added water, not fat, on those days when it swings up, will help me get less frustrated. The scale also has wifi, so it automatically updates my fitbit app with my weight as well as my weight tracking apps. I really like this. Less room for fuzzy scale math (which I have been guilty off some days). And maybe the nicest thing is: It gives me a weather update!! It shows my weight, then my water, fat, bone and muscle percentages and the end it shows the weather forecast for morning and afternoon with temps and a little symbol (clound, sun, rain, snow etc.).

My favourite Christmas movie is When Harry Met Sally. Not a classical Christmas movie, but the holidays play an important role in the movie. And for me it is a Christmas movie because I saw it for the first time on TV when I was at home for Christmas break during my first year at university.

I really miss you guys! I need to come back here more regularly!!!!!!!!!

I'm loving all of the great memorable holiday moments! Sounds like most of us had a great special holiday.

DS is definitely better. He went with his girlfriend's family yesterday to stay overnight at the grandparents' house. The last report I heard was a text response saying his breathing was fine and a Snapchat of him and his girlfriend enjoying their time hanging out together.

DD and I have some errands to run before I have my WW meeting tonight. We are leaving tomorrow afternoon/evening to drive to southern Connecticut for a quick overnight before catching the ferry to Long Island to visit the Long Island Aquarium on our way to Pennsylvania for the New Year's Eve family wedding.... but this is all weather permitting. Of course, a storm is due in Thursday morning. The men weren't going to leave New Hampshire for Pennsylvania until Friday, so they should be fine. But DD and I will need to make the go/don't go call tomorrow afternoon/evening. NO sense in a 5 hour drive to southern Connecticut for a ferry that may be cancelled.

Off to post the QOTD..............P

**Imagine a great REFLECTION image of Mulan here.... I couldn't figure out how to save it and upload it from my new Chromebook!

As 2016 draws to a close, this is a great opportunity to REFLECT BACK and to learn from all the year has brought. Please take a moment and tell us about your GREATEST HEALTHY achievement for 2016! Did you hit a weight loss milestone? Did you start a new exercise routine and stick with it? Have you started eating healthy meals at home more often? Perhaps you ran a good number of half marathons this year ;) ?

Now take some time to think about something that you still struggle with... perhaps it is tracking? Or resisting second helpings? Or maybe the drive-thru calls loudly on your way home from work? WHAT IS YOUR PLAN to work on this during 2017??

What memory from this holiday will stick with you the longest?

A woman I'm not even barely related to (BIL's stepmother) repeatedly telling me to have babies. :scared: The guilt trip they laid on DH and I for leaving early to go to my family's Christmas dinner had no effect after that LOL! Oh, families..... :P

Greatest achievement this year is that I have cooked soooo much this year! DH and I hardly ever cooked before -- now we are eating so much better!

I'm still struggling with exercising and being motivated to do so. This is why I am going to try Orangetheory. I'm not waiting until January either.... tomorrow I'm going for the trial class with my SIL and get this party started! Haha!

As for me, I think I dealt with the holiday pretty well this year. Mainly because I was exhausted and was just picking at stuff all day. I did have a full on dessert though, and the scale did remind me of that this morning. Only up 0.1 lb though so I am close to meeting the goal. I will be working out this week so I just have to keep my eating in check.
