Hello:

Since there will be a lot of grilling this weekend, I thought I would ask the question "How do you like your hot dog?" There are a million different ways to enjoy a hot dog. But for the purposes of this discussion, I am only going to allow the votes to pertain to the BIG 3 condiments; Ketchup, mustard & relish. Aspects like how you prefer your dog cooked (grilled, fried, boiled, steamed) or add-ins, like cheese, chili or onions, you can post in your response. Though I must admit, having seen a couple of bacon wrapped chili cheese dogs on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, makes me want to try them.

As for how I take my dog: ketchup and brown mustard

How I prefer it cooked: grilled with a grill warmed hot dog roll with just a little butter.

I look forward to seeing the replies. And I know I've already turned off a few of you with me liking ketchup. So I added an additional vote if you feel that way.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July weekend.

Hotdogs: grilled with a grill warmed bun. Yellow mustard, green relish, onions, and dill pickle slices.
But my favorite are German brats, grilled on a roll with brown mustard and sauerkraut. And a beer. A BIG beer.

Mustard, either brown or yellow, sometimes I do half and half.

I like sauerkraut too but don't always have it.

And on a New England style bun.

Mustard is my favorite, though I like other things too. I am not always opposed to ketchup on a hot dog though it is my least favorite of the main condiments. I will never mix ketchup with mustard though. I generally only put one thing on each dog (unless it's like a Chicago Dog or something like that).

sometimes I like Guldens mustard never yellow! Like the hotdog grilled crispy. Going out to buy some Sabretts later they are on sale.

The only choice your poll needed was "Ketchup should NEVER be put on a hot dog!" :faint: :crazy2:

For starters, the hot dogs must be all beef. I avoid hot dogs at BBQs or other places unless I'm SURE I'm not eating that crap with mechanically separated chicken or turkey. I don't serve hot dogs at cookouts either; I won't have anyone asking me for ketchup for them. :snooty:

Any condiments except ketchup are fine.

Places that serve hot dogs should have a sign like they do at Thrasher's French Fries in Ocean City, MD. Don't even ask.

Well depends on my mood

Sometimes just ketchup
Other times mustard and relish or mustard and sauerkraut

I do prefer a natural casing beef hot dog grilled until it splits.

I adore hot dogs, so of course the answer isn't simple. As far as cooking style, my favorite is on the BBQ; 2nd is pan fried, and 3rd is steamed/boiled. Rolls should ALWAYS be New England style- the stand-up kind, white on the sides, slit in the top- if I have any say at all. I prefer them buttered and grilled, but will also eat them plain or toasted (toaster or BBQ). I don't care if the dogs are natural casing or not, all beef or not, red or not.

My FAVORITE hot dog is a Flo-Dog, purchased at Flo's in Cape Neddick, Maine. It is a steamed dog (natural casing) in a steamed roll. This has been described as "steamed to perfection, where the napkin becomes part of the roll." They top this with a smear of mayo and a healthy dollop of Flo Sauce, which is a relish-type condiment made of onions, a little dried pepper flakes, sugar, molasses, spices (secret recipe, this is my best guess). Then they shake celery salt across the top. These babies are AMAZING and I can eat an embarrassing number of them at one sitting!

Hot dogs at home... New England style roll, buttered and grilled to crunchiness. On top of the dog I want mustard and chopped onion. Second favorite is same roll, with ketchup, mayo, celery salt.

Dogs purchased elsewhere- I like a good dog with sauerkraut and mustard. Also a nice chili-cheese dog is never turned down!

Grilled, steamed bun, French's mustard, chopped onion.
