Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Okay, here's kind of a weird question for you guys.... My daughter and I ALWAYS pick-a-pearl in Japan. A few years ago we got our pearls set and we've been REALLY pleased with our jewelry. When we went in November 2015, we picked our pearls as usual, but when we went to look in the jewelry case there was a problem. Apparently, they were in the process of getting a new vendor for a lot of their setting options, so ALL they had were the pearl cages, and those really aren't my style. (I was going to get a new ring, and have my daughter's beautiful twin grey pearls set as earring studs.) Okay. No problem, I'll do something with them at home. Except I get home and it would actually be WAY more expensive to have a jeweler here set them. I'm talking 100+ per item. No thanks. SO all three pearls have been sitting in their little Disney bags in my wallet ever since. I'm wondering if when we go back next month if I can have them set then? Initially it didn't even occur to me that I might *not* be able to, but now I'm looking at the bags and they've got the date we picked them on them. Has anyone else ever taken pearls back to be set on a totally different trip? I tried looking through the pick-a-pearl board but couldn't find any precedent for this. Any help/ideas would be appreciated!

Unfortunately I have a pearl in a little bag with the same story. As a pp suggested, you could try going back with your original receipt if you still have it. I know my receipt is probably sitting at the bottom of our local landfill.

I feel weird suggesting Etsy as a guy(it's my go-to for "creative" gifts for DW) but they have some really nice pearl cages for much cheaper if you are still interested in that route.

I'm sure they do. And hey. Etsy is for EVERYONE! But no, cages REALLY aren't my thing.

This is more my/our style (not my photo)

I don't know for sure but have you ever heard of a store in Disney turning down money. LOL Bring the original receipt and let them know they were unable to set them when you got them

That was my original thought as well, "why would they NOT want my money." Unfortunately as this was 6 months ago the receipt is now LONG gone. I guess I'll just politely ask, worst thing that can happen is they say no.

We're driving down from just East of Toronto with our 4 girls and niece. Definitely packing an overnight bag for the mid (three quarters of the way) hotel for pjs, a summery change of clothes for everyone, sandals & toiletries. Everything else stays in the car.

And I do ALLLLLL of the packing and Tetris-ing the Odyssey. We're down to one double stroller from 2 doubles so packing the car will be easier than our last trip but still a fun challenge.

Huh! I never fly, so I've never thought of this. I'll definitely keep it in mind for any future flights though :P I'd lose my mind if I flew out to Disneyland and had to rewear the clothes I just wore for the 7 hour plane ride.
20+ hour drive for me so flying is always my first choice. I have driven down many times and through the mountains in Virginia is beautiful, but I lose 2+ days of my trip. When it's just the 2 of us, like this trip, the cost is about equal and we're not zonked upon arrival.

We fell back to the dark side again and decided to do a 5/2 Disney/Universal split. It's our way of using our dollars to show frustration with some of Disney's decisions and also have a bit slower pace the last couple days. A level 4-5 day at Disney is still quite crowded and can be hectic. Nothing like walking right on to ride after ride.

We wish we could fly but with 7 of us, the cost to fly is ridiculous compared to how much in gas and the cost of one hotel room would cost us to drive. We haven't done a family vacation since our Disney 2014 trip so we are going for 16 days to make the driving worth it.

Just curious how you manage 7 of you in one hotel room? We struggled to find a room for 6!

Embassy Suites ... So the "suite" will have a bedroom with 2 doubles and a small living room with a pull out. Our youngest is just 4 so she can squeeze onto one of the doubles or we'll make a bed out of the couch cushions.

Silly question but does everyone else cross pack one outfit in another suitcase? Once all bags made the trip but mine was delayed a day. I had to buy a new shirt for day 2 (aww darn), but finding 'unmentionables' in the park for sale doesn't seem to exist. I learned the value of cross packing that trip.
Never thought of it because I started traveling solo & the one time an airline left my luggage I was alone. But now that Im traveling with family, that's a great tip!

We LOVE LOVE Embassy Suites but a great option for a family of 7 or 8 is Staybridge Suites. They have 2 bedroom, 2 bath suites with partial kitchen. Master has king, 2nd bedroom two fulls and the living room has a sofabed. Add the hot breakfast buffet, huge perk for big families. And Mon-Wed a happy hour with food.

The one in Lake Buena Vista (we have stayed) just renovated the suites not long ago and they look great. Super option for large families that don't want two rooms.

Just curious how Disney could be having "technical difficulties" with ROL and still having the press preview for it next week. They said on the DIS today that the preview is still on. Something sounds fishy!
I saw that! I was pretty darn irritated before. If the show is actually ready and pushed back for convenience/financial reasons...I'll actually be angry.

Embassy Suites also has the free hot breakfast which we will be taking full advantage of before getting back on the road for WDW.
