Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Hello, everyone!

I posted a new thread on the trip planning forums with this question, but thought since I know so many here are frequent WDW travelers, I'd ask here too.

I'm helping plan a trip for a friend, and am looking for information about traveling with young kids as well as the grandparents: Pros, Cons.

Anyone have suggestions, success stories, horror stories, what worked, what didn't? I appreciate your input!

Jeanne

Does anyone know the room numbers of the rooms that are located just up the stairs from the Yacht Club Lobby? WE stayed there one time and I want to request a room there for our next trip. We have a garden view booked. Any help would be most appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend requesting specific room numbers. I would word your request just like you did here, "just up the stairs from the lobby ".

On page 325, I've posted a rough map of room numbers based on touring plans layouts and photos / info from the web... I think if you requested room 1071-85 2075-85 etc, that might be garden view, as you're next to a garden / patio area. If you go higher, I imagine it becomes a water view room...

Well, we made changes to our vacation last night and we have switched hotels - from BC to the Grand Floridian!! So excited to stay there as it's our first time but sad to leave the BC!! If you can remove "Avery&Todd" from the June check-in list I would appreciate it!! I also talked DH into an extra night since the fights on our arrival date were not the best - can't flipping wait!

First of all, Hi. Still alive.

Second, I have a lot of catching up to do. Been reading for an hour and still have 354 more messages...

Now for my question (which I hope hasn't been asked in the next 354 messages): Has anybody done the new Sandcastle club? I would love to hear the details of it. DS is very excited about the idea of cooking.

AAAnd done. Had to break out the glasses even because my eyes were getting tired. ;)

By the way, I wanted to add that we just booked a sisters trip for the week of Thanksgiving through the "magical" agency and saved $450 at POFQ for a 4 night stay. They had a lot of dates and Yacht/Beach was on there a lot. Just sayin', might be worth an email inquiry if you were considering any dates in the second half of the year...

Are there many/any standard view rooms in the second floor? Would these be less likely to be overlooking the large flat, ugly roof?
I'd be interested also in any info regarding standard view rooms. I just booked my October trip with the "travel agency that must not be named" and the only room type available was standard. I asked the agent to request a courtyard view with large balcony on my reservation. Do I have a chance of getting a decent view?

Standard view rooms have a view of a rooftop or a parking lot. I believe a courtyard view, as requested would be a garden view.

Dee Whenever I get a chance I pop over to your most recent TR...oh my those Orange Banded Monkey...truly have made me lol....my DD and I ran into Ninjamom on our recent trip...and who I recognized from the TR pics...and are still laughing when ever we talk about that encounter....she was gracious and of course hilarious...

Thank so much for reading when you have a chance.

Any hope that a Murphy bed will be added to the 1 bedroom BCV? Don't see why squeeze 5 people in a studio but leave only 4 in a 1 bedroom.

:welcome: to this thread!

I haven't really followed the DVC news as closely as I do the resort info, so hopefully someone who has more insight can respond to this.

:thumbsup2

This is the list I have....

Dee, feel free to use this information as you wish, and happy listening! I listen to this ALL THE TIME.

Thanks so much, Scott! I will link your post with the playlist in the Other Useful Info post.

Some how DH convinced me our split stay of Pop Century and Beach Club should be Yacht Club and Beach Club!!! He just found out he will be going over seas for a year during our 10 year anniversary so I guess we are going all out on our trip next month. We will be running the princess half marathon AND celebrating our 10 year! And I'm surprising DH with club level while we are BC! So excited I'm about to burst!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for February.

Sounds like a fantastic trip and celebration.

If there are any standard view rooms on the second floor then they aren't likely to overlook the flat ugly roof. The third floor rooms are just above that roof.

We stayed at BCV in November and walked back from DHS after Fantasmic one night. It took us 25 minutes at a moderate pace. Once we got back to the Boardwalk, we stayed on that side of the lake and crossed the bridge over to BCV since it seemed more direct back to the resort.
We've taken that route from both the BCV's and from BC rooms that are closest to Epcot. :) It is shorter when you cut through the clown pool, too.

People get pixie dust upgrades all the time. You might get lucky, too. :)

The Sunken Treasure is on the menu at the Kidani pool bar. Walking back to our room while juggling crocs and towels and wet kids, I dropped my refillable mug containing about 1/3 of a Sunken Treasure. My son, who is eight, yelled out, "oh, no, mommy dropped her precious!" Because apparently the Sunken Treasure to me = the One Ring to Golem. It should be a question on the SATs.

This truly made me laugh out loud!

No crying over spilled milk, but perfectly acceptable to shed a tear or two over a dropped Sunken Treasure!

SOOO excited! First deluxe, first time at Beach Club (Sept 28-Oct 2 2016)! First time at F&W! First adults-only trip!! Woo-hoo!!!

We snagged a BB offer for a garden view on our Thanksgiving week trip....looking at the resort layout, it seems there are a whole lotta garden view!:)

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

A totally unrelated snow topic. :charac2:
My trip in march is on the chopping block. Hubby recently got a really bad ankle sprain at work and has been out since last wednesday. Doctors say another week until he can work again. He has yet to tell his work about our vacation. He thinks it will just be easier if we canceled or rescheduled so he didn't anger his employer with taking more work off right now. I guess this would happen after paying off the reservation, buying new luggage, and buying 5 new outfits for disney.
:charac2:

Oh no! Hope your hubby is back on his feet again soon. Keep us posted about your trip.

Staying at Beach Club for a work conference next month. I'm bringing my 75 year old mom who has not been to Disney in decades. Any room request suggestions? (we are booked as standard view) Does the room have robes? Thanks!

Safe travels to everyone this weekend! We are preparing for the blizzard.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list. February?

:woohoo:

Perhaps request a room near the lobby (which would also put you close to transportation and the pool) or near an elevator so you don't have to navigate long hallways.

In case you are not aware, only about half of the rooms at the Beach Club have full balconies, so if this is something that is important to you, add a request for full balcony to your reservation.

As someone indicated, robes are only available in the club level room closets. I don't know if you are able to request robes for your room from housekeeping. If you try, please let us know if you are successful in getting them.

Thanks for posting this! Interesting.

Let's see if this upload works - here is the DVC Grocery Order Form dated July 2015...

Thanks!

I think the prices here pretty accurately reflect the prices guests will find in the Marketplace.

Thank you! I thought the same thing when I saw the refurbished lounge photos. I figured they would start on the lounge floor and work their way down . Maybe they are waiting till all the work is done over on the BC side. I think I read that they are refurbishing the villas???? Either that or all the different resorts are melting into one in my mind:rotfl:We were at BC last June and the rooms looked really nice there. Cant wait to see YC if and when they are done.

Yes, BCV are scheduled to begin renovations this month and I think the work is expected to be completed at the end of summer- August-ish.

I believe the construction crew working on this project is not the same one that will be working on the Yacht Club resort, so the work could happen simultaneously. Don't know if it will, but it is possible.

Just switched our Yacht Club nights to Beach Club - we'll save YC for August 2017 :)

Got it!

If you want to check out some sample views from standard view rooms, go to the Resorts Community board subforum and look at the View Thread for Beach Club (or Yacht Club)

And this is why I love this thread!
Yep - we're flying into BWI. I'm definitely going to check at the front desk tomorrow. The good thing is we fly out later on Sunday, so if the storm ends Saturday, we have a bit of a shot at having things cleared. My vote is to rent a car and drive home if it comes to that. But we'll see. We were at the pool chatting with a family from near the Maryland border who are supposed to leave Saturday.

I'd be sort of happy with an extra day or two. Although my coworkers might not be pleased. We're staying on rented points in a 2 BR villa. That price scares me a bit. But we'll see what happens. All we can do is watch as things develop.

And I think I have a good argument for my husband about taking our next big vacation in August. It's hot. But we won't have to dig our car out of a BWI lot.
I'd def be happy with a couple of extra days and no body can blame you at work that you couldn't get back due to the storm, beauty!!!

Have another Sunken Treasure Tara and enjoy! Have one for me too!

Yes, please add me to the Be Our Guest List: October 22 - October 29, 2016, Beach Club
Thanks!

For the BOG list.... we are now splitting our stay at YC with AKL rather than POFQ in May.... found a deal too good to pass up!! Still keeping our YC reservation for now - although I consider switching to BC several times a day. Just think with three adults we are better off with the guaranteed balcony.

Thank you for the super fast responses on walking between BC -> DHS! We usually stay at BLT and have that walk to MK down pat, but wasn't sure about the BCV to DHS route...I will make sure we bring a stroller so we can walk a bit on the faster side and plan for to leave our room 30 minutes before we want to be there...I think if we happened to walk out and time it to catch a boat we will but that way we can walk if we don't!

I think we will be walking there the morning of the half marathon at rope drop. I didn't want to have to worry about traffic/driving but also want to try to be there for the EMH to get the kids signed up for JTA..and my DH might not be up in time (recovering from the 10K)...gonna be a busy day and a busy trip!

Just curious why you are contemplating switching... we have only stayed at YC and booked BC for the first time this trip due to the renovated rooms, but then ended up switching to YC bc of the latest discount. I'm a little worried about the construction and hope it will be done by summer but a poster just mentioned that no start date has been confirmed yet :( Anyhow, I'm teetering too and am wondering what your preferences are :)

Well, I officially canceled my March trip.

I'm looking into dates in october. No yacht club available, but hubby said I can book beach club If I want to.

I'll let y'all know what happens!

Just the idea of a newly refurbed room at BC vs. a "worn" room at YC. I think we will end up staying put. The renovation itself does not scare me at all. I am just going to cross my fingers that it starts before we arrive and we have a little pixie dust thrown our way and get a room that has been worked on. Hey, a girl can dream! :)
