Official Breast Feeding Support Thread for WDW Parks

Ryansstitch-I've never been with a baby as young as yours but I really liked using my Ergo when DD was 18 months. I also love my ring sling but it gets tiring much sooner.

Hmm, I've never used either, but I plan to go test out an ergo tomorrow. Just to look at the ring slings makes my neck and shoulders hurt! I've got a moby wrap, but dd was hot in it yesterday and it was only in the upper 70s here. I'm concerned she's going to be way too hot in it. I have a bjorn also, but that's pretty thick too... What time of year did you go with your dd?

Wow! No one has posted here for a long time. I'm glad to see the thread exists though. I'm a ftm, and my little one is going to be 5 months during our May trip for a Star Wars weekend. Have any of you mommies found any good nursing spots aside from the baby care centers? I'm also overwhelmed at the info on carriers and slings. I see one beco user, but as far as touring the parks, what is comfortable for most of you? My dd is already 17 pounds and I'm expecting her to pick up at least 2 more before we go!

I loved our beco at Disney. DD was 8 months on our first trip, and it came in quite handy. I can't speak to nursing, as I EP'd for my dd, but i did find some good spots to pump at. I'd imagine they'd be good for nursing too. I posted about our experience earlier in thus thread...when I'm on my computer, i will find that post and link it.

It's been awhile since I was nursing but I remembered all 3 times I went with my nursing babies that I had any trouble anywhere.
Mind you I am well covered up when I was nursing and generally people can't even tell.
But I've nursed on benches, baby care centers, and quick service locations without anybody batting an eyelash.
I've read some people nursing during a ride, I was never that brave :rotfl: I would be too anxious waiting for the ride to end and figuring out how to exit with a nursing baby...hehe

Have fun on your trip!

We're also going in May! :thumbsup2 Our 2012 trip our little one was 4 months old and I nursed everywhere. I learned the first night how to nurse with him in the beco...made it much easier than finding a spot to sit. I nursed on a lot of rides too. I specifically remember sitting on a bench near the tea cups and space mountain. Our trip last year, he was 18 months old and I nursed mainly on the rides. He was cutting 3 molars at once and didn't feel good for the first few days so he nursed more than normal. There's plenty of places in all the parks to sit...sure you won't have a problem. I even seen moms sitting on the ground, lol. Oh, I also want to say...last year we went in April and it was HOT! Tried the beco for about 3 minutes and didn't use it again, it was just too hot for him and me. So I'm sure May won't be a good idea for the beco either. Anyway....have fun!

What a great thread!!! I was just talking to the h hub about whether or not it would be BFing friendly there. I'll have a toddler nursing. With my oldest two they were nursing very little at that age. With her she barely lets up. Lol

Nice to know that there is support here.

Ok, I'm on my computer...I went back and found my post, and here's what I wrote about where I pumped (just sub in nursing for pumping :))

I never did end up using the BCCs - I just was never near them when I needed to pump. I had a nursing cover, I wore a pumping bra under a nursing tank every day - so it was easy to be discreet. My mom had made a soft quilted fabric case for the Ameda as well - both to help conceal it/discretion, and to help muffle the sound. Turns out the sound didn't really need to be muffled, ever. There was enough ambient noise everywhere that even I could barely hear the pump, and the person sitting next to me couldn't hear it at all.

I was able to find out of the way benches, for the most part, to sit down and pump at with little to no people around me. One time, though, I *thought* I had found an out of the way place to sit and pump, but it ended up being right in front of the exit for the Country Bears - so I was quite self conscious there. But I was using the cover, and no one could see anything, and I just tried to melt into the background as much as possible. I made sure to avoid ride exit points after that

Aside from that, I found a secluded sitting area up some stairs above the ice cream cart across from the rafts to TSI near Splash and Thunder Mtn, inside Innoventions (an out of the way bench), a bench near Restaurantosaurus at AK (near closing time, so park was dead), a quiet bench near Muppet Vision in DHS - and beyond that, I ended up pumping at our meals. Especially at CS meals, it was very easy to find a table in a back quiet corner. If I was allowed to sit down before getting food (sometimes yes, sometimes no - depending on crowds), I sat and set up while family ordered food for me. As I said earlier, even at the TS restaurants the noise was ambient enough to cover the noise of the pump so that I could barely hear it myself, much less anyone else.

I loved my ring slings. I had both an unpadded Maya and a homemade one. The homemade one was a very thin material. I used that one in May/June with a 15lb 2 month old. It was great! I went again when she was 7 months old - maybe 17 lbs and she was in the sling almost all day. For that trip, she would only nap lying down in the stroller so she was out of the sling once a day for her nap. (Minus the exploring times!) My youngest was in the sling all day at 11 months - and 24 lbs. He was far from walking then and refused the stroller. My youngest also used the sling for a great deal of the time at 2.5 years old. However, that was a bit more difficult as I was out of slinging shape, since he hadn't used it for a full year. (He refused to walk and refused to use the stroller). I had used my Maya for shorter times - like 1-2 hours at a time, for my eldest until 18 months, when he was a whopping 35 lbs. It doesn't hurt my shoulders at all. I was a mere 96 lbs when I was able to sling a dense 35lb toddler, so don't think I'm superwoman!

I have heard great things about Ergo's however. The ring sling was what I started with with my first child almost 11 years ago, so I just continued on with it. It worked well and was easy to take with me.

Thanks for the insight! I wondered about the temperature. I currently mostly use a moby wrap and I ordered a cotton gauze wrap from etsy to try for the summer. We'll see how it goes!

I would just take it as more time to have the calorie burning help of bf'ing!

Wow, I never would have guessed a ring sling would be comfortable for all day use with toddlers! We haven't ever tried using our stroller, but I think we will bring that too.

I am so glad this thread is here. My dd is 4, and she is no longer nursing. I miss those days.
But I'm glad there is a good support page for nursing moms.

I went this past march with my 3 month old. I just nurse where ever when ever. I took my ringsling and my wrap. The wrap i mostly used for the bus rides or when she was out for her naps. The ring sling was great for when she was in and out. We brought the stroller too since i knew there would be times she would want to be out of the carriers. Nursing in the ring sling is easy. And they are very comfy. I used my ring sling for my 2 yr old during my pregnancy since i couldnt wrap around the belly. Later when my YDD is ready i will start using the ergo. Although for nursing i will probably keep the ring sling handy. I nursed at DHS at the muppets show, at the bakery but i guess we were sitting outside on the patio by brown derby. Mostly i was nursing while walking around.

I've never used a ring sling...I'd like to try it, though I've been a little nervous after how much dd hated this other sling I tried with her for all of 20 seconds! Nursing and walking sounds like a great way to handle things though. But I'm nervous to do that too! I'm fairly petite overall, but I went from 32ddd pre pregnancy up to an h! I'm scared I'll wind up flashing someone if I try to do too much!

With all my ADRs I'll need it. Lol

I'll be eating a bit more myself! I'm curious if any of you nursing moms have done the food and wine festival? If so did you do any seminars? DH and I love attending, and I've seen some small kids in the events before, but I can't remember if I ever saw a baby or toddler. During my pregnancy I asked on the f &w board, and the question wasn't well received. In fact, I wonder if those are the same people who apparently have a problem with women nursing in the parks! I was really surprised at the response I got when mentioning I was thinking of taking my baby and wanted to know what experiences others had! Interestingly, it seems I didn't hear from anyone with a child who had been. Anyway, I just wondered if anyone had done the "Deminars" with a baby, and how it went. Based on my baby and others I've known, it seems nursing babies are a bit more relaxed and content (completely anecdotal). If dd is easily consoled and a generally calm and happy baby in the fall, as she has been since birth, we might take her to enjoy the sights.

I was at WDW last November with my 7 month old daughter. By that time, I had given up on nursing covers. I would just find somewhere convenient to sit and nurse while my DH and my DD were on a ride. No one ever said anything negative to me. I even ended up nursing at our table during dinner a few times when my DD was particularly fussy.

I did not try nursing on rides because my DD was very easily distracted while nursing at that age.

My DD hates strollers, so she ended up in our Boba 3G for most of the trip. She napped well in it, and I did nurse once in it while walking. The carrier was extremely comfortable, although it might be a little warm in hot weather. I wore the carrier onto quite a few rides with no issues.

Thats the good thing about a ring sling. The extra material that hangs down becomes a cover too. I just drape it over my shoulder and no one knew a thing.
