145 Middle Schoolers: Wicked Awesome or Epic Fail???DeParting-Such Sweet Sorrow p. 76

Score!! FP for TSM and RnRC yay!!! My boys love the new star tours ride. Last year they went on a few times to see the different versions. DH was the rebel spy once lol. I've only done it once it makes me nauseous too! I can't stand watching a screen while on a ride... I need to close my eyes every once in a while.
I know can be tricky at HS. Hope you did starring roles. Although my DS15 would get a turkey leg.

I had nasea too after i rode it last summer. It's the worst I have felt it in a long time from a ride.

Thanks for the pictures of Star Tours. :) I haven't ridden it in probably 10 years. I don't do so well with simulator type rides.

It sounds like the group had a good time on Star Tours (well except for your bit of wooziness). We've all been very lucky and have never had any motion sickness on the attraction.

I'm wondering what you end up eating for lunch since Hollywood Studios isn't known for having great counter service restaurants.

I am missing Star Tours big time and really starting to feel the "oh I wish we weren't doing just resort days" bug. We haven't seen it since the refurb. I have to keep it to myself though...and my wallet!

But yes, doing it on an empty tummy can make one...bleh. I seem to have that issue at HS more than anywhere else, most likely due to too many stops at the Writers Stop for coffee, before a real meal. :rotfl:

Score on the FP's!

OK, Bonine for everyone!!!

My family used this non-drowsy version of dramamine on our trip to the Dark Side last summer. There are a bunch of simulator/3D rides at US! I was the only one who used the Bonine on our arrival day, and I was the only one who wasn't feeling awful after our 2nd ride on Simpsons. The rest of the week everyone took it every day and we all felt fine.

Yup, excellent FP gathering! And I didn't even have to do it (although I was immediately given possession of said FP once we regrouped). Count to 19. Count to 19. Count to 19. One of the chaperones didn't come to HS until later in the morning.

Starring Rolls... that was the original plan in my fantasy trip planning stages. You know, when I was going to Columbia Harbor House and everything. Let's see what develops...

So it's not just me! Actually, it took down one of the students, too, I think.

No pictures of the actual ride though. You know, some idiot was actually snapping pictures the whole ride when we went on in 2010. :confused3

It's a MOVIE!!!

Does the rest of your family enjoy the ride? Good place to get out of the rain! ;)

It was not the worst I have ever felt after a Disney ride. That would be Astro Orbitors. It wasn't horrible after Star Tours, but I was starting to feel funny.

Yes, the great HS CS dilemma. We always avoid that by eating lunch at Sci Fi or bailing and heading into EPCOT.

Score on the FP's!

I am a breakfast eater, and on this trip, we just had the grab and go put out by the teachers. I think it was around noon, and definitely past time for me to eat!

Was Star Tours closed down during your last trip to the World? I'm thinking yes.

It was definitely a fun morning, and the prospects for the afternoon were looking pretty good, too! :goodvibes

.

I can't wait to go on Star Tours. It'll be our first time since the refurb as well. We loved the original version and rode it multiple times. It'll be nice to possibly get a different version each time.

I am a big, Big, BIG proponent of Bonine! I still skip the Tea Cups since I don't want to test the limits but I'm able to ride everything else without the motion sickness.

As to your question about Halloween costumes, it's a girl's trip this time with me, DD8, my best friend and her goddaughter 7. DD is going as Rapunzel and I'll be Mother Gothel. (Flat Ben would make an excellent Flynn!) BFF is going as Fairy Godmother and trying to talk her goddaughter into Cinderella though she really wants to be Snow White.

Score on the great FP times! That's awesome.

Can't say I blame you on taking a little ride on Star Tours. I really enjoyed that ride. Group of 20 - did you fill up the whole cabin or just the first couple of rows. What a great day at HS!

Yes it was so the last time I went on it was summer of 2010 I think. I'll be hitting it in October for sure...but NOT those dreaded Astro Orbitors. Officially the only ride in Disney that I will NEVER do again. If I can possibly avoid it that is. :rotfl:

I like it! I'll have to get to work on Flat Fynn.

Star Tours is cool. Love the theming in the queue both outdoors and in. The movie looks great!

Actually, I was carrying Bonine in my fanny pack during the trip, and I believe I took one after the ride. Can't remember if I included that in my report. As you may recall- Bonine is one of my tips for surviving Universal/IoA.

My oldest son is in boat camp next week (an actual fishing boat that will go out on the ocean), so I need to make sure he takes some each day.

We filled up the first two rows, I think about half of the theatre.

This day was turning out to be light years ahead of the previous day!

You and me both on AO. Who knew that ride would be so nasty???

I must take the YES class at DHS. ToT and RnRC!:banana: Love those rides.

Sorry your first concert was such a bummer. Must not have been such a great opening act if you can't remember who it was.

The funny thing about you getting a little sick on Star Tours...part of the reason it took so long to ever refurb Star Tours was because George Lucas wanted a ride that wouldn't make people sick. Guess that was a fail.

I wonder if you ate at our favorite spot?

Despite a 90 minute standby line after they did the refurb for ST - it ended up being amazing and worth the wait!! It was so awesome. They really did a great job! And who wouldn't want to be the rebel spy. (Although it is usually someone with a deer in the headlights look on their face!) :woohoo:

It truly must have been an adventure coordinating meals for that many boys!

This Y.E.S. class was perfect for our group! Exciting rides and the the "lecture" portion was interesting.

Aerosmith rescheduled the concert later, so we did end up seeing them perform.

:rockband:

I didn't know that about Star Tours. Thanks for sharing that. I didn't feel poorly enough that I wouldn't ride again. I'll be interested in seeing how I feel riding it in the future when I don't have a mostly empty stomach.

Oh, I'm curious to hear what your favorite lunch spot is!

The boy who was the rebel spy was the same kid who Stitch spit on the previous day. Lucky kid! It was the son of the other Disney expert in our group.

Coordinating the upcoming lunch was not as difficult for me as one might think!

I'll post that chapter tomorrow.

Ben says he is up for this! I'll have to get working on his flat form. "Flat Ben" can have his own trip report.

::yes:: It is very cool!

Not only that, Flat Ben could live at the Beach Club for a while? I could pass him off to someone coming in after me? He might become the longest resident of the Beach Club, you never know:rolleyes1 Of course, then he will need a trip to visit Flat Ben and say hi.:thumbsup2:lmao:

You have my mind going a mile-a-minute! Now I want to make a little lanyard for Flat Ben, and send him with a pin he can trade with others. In addition to the Cheshire Cat costume (with removable smile) and Flynn Rider outfit!

I'll have to think about whether it would be possible for Flat Ben to live at the Beach Club. VERY interesting idea!

When the Y.E.S class ended around 11:20, we met up with the other chaperones in our group. They had a productive morning- we were now the proud owners of FP for Toy Story Mania (12:30 to 1:30) and RnR (1:30 to 2:30).

Next up- Lunch Time: Solo after Solo

.

OK, I really like this kind of fastpass success. Feeling good about that part. Every time you mention lunch plans, I start to get nervous. And the fact that you sought out CS at DHS makes me more nervous! Now that we've abandoned DHS CS and we've been to every TS location in DHS, my new plan is to just bail and get over to World Showcase. (OK, that's too harsh - I do like some of the DHS TS restaurants, but WS is just so much better by comparison!) But "Solo after Solo" sounds promising!!!!!

I like the new Star Tours - we did both the DL and WDW versions this year and we enjoyed the improvements. I thought the improvements would increase the repeat value with our boys, but they only wanted to ride once at each park.

I am missing Star Tours big time and really starting to feel the "oh I wish we weren't doing just resort days" bug. We haven't seen it since the refurb. I have to keep it to myself though...and my wallet!

Cynthia, just wanted to say that I know EXACTLY how you feel. We stayed at BWI pre-cruise last summer and BC post-cruise. No parks (although we did spend a day at TL.) It was great and we loved it, but I'll admit it was difficult to watch Illuminations from the bridge instead of inside the park.

Thanks again for all the Alaska advice in your outstanding TR - we're sailing on August 27!

I'm so glad it was helpful! Are you doing any excursions?

I'm avoiding the boardwalk area for that very reason, somehow the beach at the poly or the TOTWL seems less painful. Lol!

I think it took a little management for the chaperones to get the FP. TSM first, then they had to wait for the window to open to get the ones for RNR. But it wasn't me!!!

"Solo after Solo" DOES sound good, doesn't it!?!

I wouldn't have minded doing Star Tours one more time during the trip to see the difference. Perhaps after eating something. But that didn't happen.

Brilliant use of FP! I'm impressed!
My most brilliant FP adventure when 2 summers ago. My kids were doing the Albatross Cruise at YC but I made them go to Epcot and enter the park so I could get them FPs for Soarin' while they were seeking treasure. We walked into the park and back out....

Oh yeah, I totally remember- that part of your TR contained one of my favorite all time posts about your imaginary friends validating your plan to confirm that you are not nuts.

In fact, that exchange inspired a response to a poster on the BC/YC FAQ with a similar scheme earlier this week!!!

Now tell me if this is completely nuts... Thinking when we check in, before we settle at SAB, I would have everyone enter EP through IG to validate tickets. Then I could watch my LINES app for when a Soarin FP RT wold be 7pmish - 8pmish. I have no problem taking a walk over to Soarin with all tickets to get FPs. I'm thinking after Chef Mickeys we cold monorail it to EP front entrance, ride Soarin with FPs and then go back to BC to sleep. I'm sure we will be pooped! Am I nuts?

Totally NOT nuts (says one of your imaginary friends here on the boards)

:worship:

This is a brilliant plan!
