Disney's new theme - your thought's on the following scenario?

Frank should fill Bob in that Mary can't keep her mouth shut. Why, I'm surprised Mary didn't have have a photo "accidentally" mailed to Bob's wife at home just to stir up trouble.

I think Frank and Bob's wife should get together and plan a Disney trip but they should lie to the kids and tell them its a business trip for work. Bob should have to stay home and take care of the kids and Mary just plain needs therapy. She probably cuts in line too. "Oh, I'm just catching up to my "special friend" from work. I just had to go to the bathroom."

Unless, of course Mary gets mixed up with a Brazilian tour group and runs off with a hotter, younger, sexier guy, Paulo, leaving Bob stranded in the TSM line for four hours! And to make it worse, SHE had Bob's fast pass!

Mrs. Bob and Frank might see a photo of Mary and hot Paulo on the castle and snap their own picture of that image and it would make the rounds via office Email. As it turns out, that little tramp, Mary, has been banging every guy in the office in exchange for free trips to Disney, so it serves her right.

I like the way you think ;)

My 2 scenario's with a "day of" example.

1) You are married. Your spouse is at home. You told them you are on a business trip, when in fact you were at WDW with your friend you found at ashleymadison.com. Your pic is posted on the castle, when a friend you hadn't seen in years happens to be at WDW the same day on a happy (non adultery) family vacation. You return home, they call the house, your spouse answers and says "I didn't know Bob was in Disney World" to which she replies... "Me either" Uh oh...

2) You live in the surrounding Orlando area, call in sick. Head to MK. Pic on castle. Mary (the office gossip) happens to have a day off and is there with the guy from scenario 1 :rotfl2: - and approaches the boss the next day at work, and says "I know Frank called in sick, but I really think he was just - Sick of working".
Well... a good way to learn that you'll need to live with the consequences of your actions!

I'm actually cramping from laughing so hard! :rotfl2:

See, the question was not about the moral obligation or consequences.

It's simply - How is Disney prepared to handle the situation where someone does not want there image projected?

Maybe I'm missing something, I was under the impression that the images used were ones that people submitted. Am I wrong?

I was under that impression as well. The literature says the submissions may be chosen in print ads, newsletters, etc,.

They will use photopass photos taken the day of, I assume, to project onto the castle.

If you're using Disney's cameras to take pictures, the pictures belong to Disney. They always have. If you don't want Disney to have a picture of you, don't let Disney take your picture.

The only missing from this post is "The End."
:rotfl2:

ITA! :thumbsup2

So, if I'm running around on my DBF with someone else and decide to take them to Disney (when I'm supposed to be at a business meeting), I shouldn't be concerned about actually being spotted by someone I know but, I should be concerned that someone may see an image of me (or someone that looks like me) on a castle?
Ok, my thoughts are that if you don't want yourself projected on a castle then you shouldn't have any photopass pics taken. Simple enough. But, if it honestly becomes some strange problem, there will probably be a way to opt out.

Interesting tidbit you may or may not know... Cast members are told to NEVER go into the parks if they called in sick that day. I've known quite a few college program participants who were terminated after calling in sick while their family was visiting and getting them into the parks. Obviously this is different for people who work elsewhere and just live in the Orlando area, but nonetheless- if you're too sick to work, stay out of the parks! :scared1:

Thank you! I wish people would just give this a chance.

The pictures will be projected only during a nighttime "memories" show. Not constantly and not all night long.

As for the scenarios posed, I was under the impression that the photos from photopass would be "day-of" pics so how would anyone know you were there with someone you shouldn't be unless they were there the same day with you?

As for showing submitted photos...don't submit anything you don't want seen.

So from what I read I guess some people are afraid they are going to be caught in lies... Like if u say ur going away for work when ur really on vacation with ur bf while the hubby is at home. Right?well if that's the case u deserve to be caught!

What about this real life scenario. A few years ago Mom and the kids escaped a physically abusive marriage and moved to a new town. Hubby is still pissed and has not given up hunting them down. Mom takes the kids to WDW on vacation now that she is back on her feet. Their picture gets shown on the castle. One of her old neighbors who is still friends with abusive hubby is there. He calls abusive hubby and tells him where the ex-wife and kiddos are. Mom and kids aren't doing anything wrong, but ex-hubby is a psycho.

Or what about people in Witness Protection, long after they've testified but are still living in their new identities. Should they have to stay out of WDW for fear of their pictures appearing on the castle?

Some people have very legitimate reasons for not wanting their pictures shown on the castle. Disney needs a way to respect those wishes.

I watched the promotional video PP linked. Sorry, I don't like the idea at all. Seeing other people up on the castle reminds me of disney marketing videos. I want to see disney characters, not the crowds/people I am seeing all over the parks. Whose idea was this? I guess, at least in my opinion, the main people who would like it are the ones who WANT to see themselves up on the castle. No so magical for everyone else. And no, it isn't jealousy that someone else has their picture up there, I wouldn't want to see myself up there either, I'm a more private person. (I don't use photopass anyway.) Just don't care for the concept.

When is this going to start and END?

take your own camera and get your own pictures. problem solved. just like the dining program, you don't have to use it.

I know there are a few posts about Let The Memories Begin, and to be honest I haven't read through all the details, but am wondering about what people's opinion on this following scenario is.

Note: I am not trying to start a moral argument, or conterversory although I am sure the popcorn eaters will come out. popcorn::

What if you don't want your picture on the castle?

And why you ask (here's the moral dilemma - that I am not looking ot start debates about).

- What if you are vacationing with someone you shouldn't be ?
- What if you called in sick for work for the day, and don't want your boss to find out ?
etc...

Again, my simple question is has Disney taken into account that you still want Photopass pics taken, but not publicly displayed?

Then I guess you should make sure that you're not doing what you shouldn't be doing. . . because forget Big Brother. . . .

The MOUSE will be watching! :scared1::lmao:

You're grasping at straws.

The solution is obvious. Make the photopass photographer use your own camera.

If you're using Disney's cameras to take pictures, the pictures belong to Disney. They always have. If you don't want Disney to have a picture of you, don't let Disney take your picture.

Seriously. Photopass pictures have always been the property of Disney, and have always been available for use in their advertising. This isn't really new.

I can't believe so many people here don't like the new theme :sad1:.
I think that "let the memories begin" could turn out great.
Nobody who is not interested in Disney will see your picture. And why not share some beautiful moments with other Disney-lovers!?

Read all the fine print before you check off the box saying you agree to the terms, because in those terms that no one reads it probably gives Disney the right to do whatever they want with your pictures or videos once you upload them.

If you're doing something you shouldn't be, are with someone you shouldn't be with, or were there when you shouldn't have been, don't upload your picture.

Other than the abusive spouse post, I have found this thread to be one of the most entertaining ones I have read lately. We just need Dr. Phil and Jerry Springer and we'll have a grand time. I needed a good laugh this morning.

As far as the abusive spouse issue, I used to teach. I have had students, for various reasons, that could not have their pics or names used publicly. In a situation like this, I wonder if the family does not realize Disney's policy as to the use of the images or if there is a way to opt out. I have a feeling that most just don't realize.

I have to think that Disney has you sign a waiver or release when they think they may want to use the photo. There is a huge liability here. Not so much Frank is cheating on his wife, or MaryLou is taking a 'sick day' and heading to the parks...but of a mother who has sole custody due to an abusive former husband. Now, that man sees his former wife and kids up on the Castle...not so good. We have the exact same issue at our church....no photos of kids that are recognizable that are put out publicly. Simple.
Disney doesn't just take photos and use them indescriminately. I would imagine that they will ask if the photo can be used, and then have the adult sign something to that effect. To the best of my knowledge, it is 'submitted' photos that are going up on the Castle, it's only same day photopass shots.

In all reality, you can still be seen in someone else's photo of their family in the parks. People see themselves in the backgrounds of complete strangers photos all the time.
