~May 14, 2011~ Eastbound Transatlantic Cruise on the Magic!

We just booked yesterday, the price was right. We're excited to be at sea for so many days. I'm a little nervous about the flight home though. Looks like I have 15 pages of reading to do. Please add us to the FE list if there is one.

Sadly, I think we are going to bow out of this cruise :( While we LOVED our 11 night med - with a 1 year old - it just sucked for him - he loved flounders (would really LOVE club), and while the splash zone was passable, it was all we could to do keep him out of the mickey pool - poor guy wanted in there SO bad - and it just doesn't seem too fair to do that to him again, "here honey - you play over here by yourself, not where all the other kids are....."

bon voyage to all that are going!

Hi all,

sorry to hear that some are having to cancel :(

Just a warning about the European flights - some of the airlines are exceptionally stringent on the luggage allowances (and bag sizes) and a lot of the airlines differ - so be careful. Some of the cheap airlines also charge for all sorts of extras.

We will also have loads of luggage as we fly out and from the UK and have 2 weeks at Disney before the cruise - so we are trying to work out how to take as little luggage as possible - whilst hubby still has a jacket for Palos. It will also be difficult not to buy as many things as we normally do. Its the flight from Barcelona to the UK that is the problem with the amount of luggage for us.

We are really looking forwards to the cruise - even from the depths of deck 1 - but hopefully we will be upstairs most of the time - busy doing nothing :)

We were on Deck 1 last Oct and loved it. It was very quite down there and the elevators are like your own express elevators. Someone told us that they default to Deck 1 so anytime we needed one, there was always one waiting. Also, when we docked, that usually where we got off the ship at so we could easily sneak in the line and cut in front everyone.:rolleyes1

Thanks for the spreadsheet! Look at the 7 & 8 year olds, they are going to take over the clubs! Any interest in FE???? We had one on our last Disney Cruise so I have my Fish Extender and I'd like to put it to use again :thumbsup2

i am always ready to do a FE, and thank you for doing the roll call.

Robin & Karl

So far, we're on this cruise, my husband and I and at least 6 of our kids, maybe all 8. This will be my 4th TA. I am about to take my 3rd, which sails in 3 weeks. No better cruise around, fun things to see at a great price, and lots of time to enjoy the ocean and the ship!

We always travel in the cheapest rooms possible in order to cruise often. We're in 11's now. I'd sleep on deck just to be on the ship! Good times!

Looking forward to chatting. If you all want ideas, the EBTA sailing on Sept 18th has great ideas. Not expecting all that. Disney makes me happy enough, just pointing you toward a resource : )

Deanna

Hi Deanna,

hope you are on board - maybe you could drag me - I mean suggest I join you in the gym everyday - I definitely want dessert each night :)

Sharon

just curious, on the spreadsheet is has a column for shots heard around the ship. what is this?

1 night we try to hit all open bars, as a group. we did this on the WBPC in 08. we had a blast. its just something fun to try to do..after dinner not on formal night.

Maybe we need a daily gym DIS meet? We can take over the entire gym for an hour a day to get in the exercise needed to be able to eat all the yummy food! I'd probably be up for that! :)

I was wondering if people would be interested in some kind of photo scavenger hunt? I've seen posts from people putting them together for their families/kids, and thought it could be cool to do with a DIS group - especially with so many sea days! We could take one day and give everyone 3-4 hours to get as many things on a list as possible. I think it'd be fun to see bunches of teams running around the ship trying to capture photos of random things! :rotfl:

That all sounds great! I was lurking at the Sept groups' page and whomever designed it is very creative. I wish I knew how to do that! I would love to create something like that for our group but I don't know the first place to begin....maybe we have a computer techie on here:surfweb:

hi
im looking into going aswell done the 5th may cruise and loved it and would love to take my daughter to a transatlantic cruise but have one question wondering if anyone can help im from Gibraltar and the transatlantic stops in GIbraltar before heading to barcelona do you know if we can bring our suitcases ashore here before going to barcelona and just leave the minnimum for the rest of the cruise

We did the 2010EBTA, and just adored it, which is why we're going to join you for this one!

My opinion on taking luggage off early is that it would be no problem at all. The security folk were manning the door, but no one was keeping track of what went out (they were x-raying what came on). It seems like a great idea to me.

In 2010 there was me, my dh, snd my ds. This time we're aiming to take the whole crew: 6 kids, 3 in-laws, and 6 gks! I'm still not sure we can pull it off, but won't it be something if we Can!!!

I'm looking forward to knowing each of you, and would love to participate in FE's, Secret Mickeys, or anything else.

I'll go to the gym as long as it's not the morning after the "Shots heard around the ship night" :rotfl2:

The scavenger hunt sounds great too! Start lurking their pages to see what they are hunting! I nominate you as the organizer of the scavenger hunt!:thumbsup2
