Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

I've been a lurker on here forever & I finally have decided to show my face and say a few things.

First of all, for those saying Kate shouldn't be irritated by having to do things alone because single parents do it all the time, I think some single parents are a bit bitter they have to do it all alone. I would be. Especially newly single parents. If my dh suddenly decided to buy a sports car and go get himself a 23 year old & leave me I would be bitter about it. And I would be whiny. And I would cry and wonder if I had driven him away because I am ugly & old & mean & cranky and because I have a full time job and 8 kids and I'm not fun anymore because I'm "responsible." I would say things like, "Why do you get to go party & have fun while I'm here working my butt off?"

As a matter of fact, I used to say to dh when I had a newborn & an 18 month old that if I was a single mother I know I would be laying awake at night hating whoever it was that was the dad. I managed to be bitter about being awake at 2 a.m. even though I had a doting, supportive, helpful dh. I was bitter just because he was asleep and I was awake. Imagine what I would have felt like if I knew he was getting it on with a 23 year old or out partying at a bar while I was having the life sucked out of me by my little ones at 2 a.m.

I've known a lot of people going through separations and divorces and they are conflicted between self-loathing and bitterness toward the other person. So for me, I can't hate Kate for her feelings right now. She is first and foremost a woman and a mother. And whether she is self-centered or a money grubber or a bit psychotic, I cannot help but have a common empathy for other women going through hard times.

As for the paparazzi I agree with whoever said Jon brought them on himself. Paparazzi follow you when you are a story. Everyone knows this. If you don't want to be followed, don't be a story. Everyone knows this too. Do you see Jodie Foster in the news? Nope. Cause she doesn't want to be followed so she never is a story.

But I cannot put this at Jon's feet either. It just seems like they are confused about what is best for the children. They both want what is best for the kids, that I believe, but I think they have lost sight of the fact that what children really want is stability. Not money. Kids don't need trips here & there. It's nice. I try to give my kids as much as possible. This is the Disboards, after all. But I also never forget that what they want more than anything in the whole world is me & dh.

As for them taking freebies, we all would take freebies. I did a quick poll at work at who would accept a free week long trip to WDW if they had to spend one of those days filming a promotional video for Pampers. Every single person asked where to sign up. So I think in general the commercializing is something we Americans don't mind & are used to & willing to participate in. The problem is they seem no longer able to prioritize and choose family over the money. I think in their case they could have both. As long as they choose family first, they could have both.

What I like about the show is that they do show America who they really are. If you taped dh & I you would possibly not like us. He especially isn't p.c. And I would not want cameras to follow us around. I, personally, would put on a big show & tell the kids not to say stuff when the camera's around. In real life I rarely wear make-up & look horrible. I often don't comb my children's hair. But if cameras were following me around I would make sure we were all gorgeous and presentable and p.c. So to me it is interesting to hear you all criticize them for changing their looks and who they are.

Really? Who hasn't started a diet after seeing a photo of yourself? This year after coming home from WDW I looked at the photos & realized that my pink princess sweatshirt added like 20 lbs to me and promptly threw it away. Imagine if I had worn it while being filmed for all of America to see? I would have been HORRIFIED. And the next time the cameras came around you can bet yer bottom dollar I'm have something super adorable on to prove I'm not a big round pink pin cushion.

So strange how Kate's sister is now telling people not to watch the show...this is seriously like so much information about one families lives. I guess once you go on reality tv, it's hard to filter.

So, If J and k DO split, does that mean kate will be a single mom to 8 kids? I think Kate should get 4 and jon should get 4 :)

Okay, There was a blonde lady at the party who looked just like Beth. Her hair was a little longer now then the last time Beth was showing.

Watched it when it FIRST came out......HEAR about it all the time.....and HAVE NOT read thru the MYRIAD of pages, or threads here,
BUT

if anyone is so inclined.......
WHO was it that allegedly cheated, him or her or BOTH??????
Was that topic "mentioned" "alluded" too on the big opener?????
:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3

ratings are in for last night's show .....

Quote:
The hour-long episode -- in which tabloid cover queen Kate Gosselin admitted, "I have a lot of anger...this is not what I envisioned for us" -- attracted a whopping 9.8 million viewers, which more than doubled the audience that tuned into the show's season 4 finale in March (4.6 million). Early estimates also reveal that the premiere, which lured unprecedented numbers of women aged 18-34 and women 18-49, was TLC's (and Jon & Kate's) most-watched episode ever.

And to this I wonder.....are they happy about this?? Or "horrified" that 9.8 million people are watching their lives fall apart. :sad2:

There was have a couple of pics oh Jon with a young girl.

There has been rumors of Kate having a affair with her bodyguard

I kept rewinding it last night, but I couldn't tell, and they didn't call her by name.
I wondered too, but no one said anything after the show, so I figured it probably wasn't.

Ok, after promising myself that I would not watch, I did.:rolleyes1 All I can say is that it was very sad. I think we are all witnessing a marriage ending right before our eyes.:sad2:

I'll apologize ahead of time if I repeat anything that was already said, because I cannot possible keep up with all of these pages.

They were talking about J&K on the radio this morning on my way to work. The discussion was whether or not a lot of this drama is for ratings because rumor has it there is a movie in the works and if there is high interest because of scandal, it will become more likely. I thought that was interesting.

All drama aside, the kids were adorable last night. It was cute to see them with their preschool friends. I swear Alexis could have her own show. She's adorable. It is also nice to see Mady as we saw her last night. Last season you would have never seen her care about Collin losing his balloon. Something has changed for her for the better. I bet it's the dogs. :)

I did wonder why they chose to have the party at that park though. J&K have that huge amount of land. Why not have the party at the house?

As far as Jon and Kate, while I don't think she is the poor innocent one, she at least can verbalize her feelings. Jon reminded me of one of the early specials with Cara and Mady where one of the girls answered the question about which baby was their favorite and the other chimed in with the same answer. After Kate said her whole spiel about everything being for the kids, Jon repeated the same thing twice. Think for yourself man! :rotfl2:

I found it extremely sad. Jon seems like such a loser. I have never really liked him but last night really made me dislike him more.

But I was wondering, did Kate even interact with any of the parents at the party? I just thought it seemed odd.:confused3

Well in my opinion her spiel was her getting a dig in at him and he was simply repeating what she said to make the point that he cares about the kids as well and his sacrifices and all he has been through has been for the kids.

Do you mean Carla? or her daughter?

Did anyone else think that it was odd that Kate was worried about ruining her make up, when she started crying during the interview :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
nope. I wear makeup every day and if I was to cry, i'd be worried too. Who wants to look like Tammy Faye Baker (RIP) with mascara streaming down her face.

In all honesty, I do care about my make up when I cry, nothing says psycho like long streaks of mascara down the face.
:thumbsup2 And I thought they'd never hand her the tissue.

Thnks, you are the only person who would even reply to me on this one. I was starting to think everyone had me on their ignore list.
Actually, someone else answered you not first thing this morning. I also anwswered you and apologized for not knowing the answer when you asked it last night. :flower3: I hope, if you want to watch, that you get to tonight. It is really sad though.:guilty:

Lurking for awhile, read most of the previous posts.......

I feel so very sorry for this family. For both parents and the kiddos.

I, as a child, watching my mom find out that my dad was cheating on her and him leaving her and 3 kids. I was that kid. I can totally relate to Maddy and Cara. Helping out mom without having to be asked cause I knew she was very upset.

Kate reminded me of my mom....Very strong woman who marches forward through the day because she has to for the kids.
Kate looks very thin to me, my mom would actually throw up and not be able to eat (smells would make her sick even) throughout the day because she was so upset. She would hide it from us kids as not to upset us. She lost so much weight, anorexic looking. Kate looks so much and is acting so much like my mom did. Very upsetting, brings back alot of memories.

No matter how the 2 of them (Jon and Kate) got here, they are here and they are hurting and suffering. The kids are to. Im sure they understand to some point. How can they not?

We as outsiders DO NOT know the whole story. The only 2 that do are Jon and Kate. No matter what you see on tv or in the mags (which I love to watch and read), they are the only ones who know. It is very sad at how much criticism and hurtful things are being said about them both.

I truly do think this started off as something innocent with the show and it turned into a monster. I really don't think this is where they wanted to end up.

What is TLC's part in the direction the show is/has taken. It almost feels like they are "egging" stuff on. Is it necessary to show a persons bad mom or dad or husband or wife moments on national tv? They edit, why weren't those bad moments edited out? We ALL have them! I would be ashamed and embarrassed if my MANY bad moments were out there to be picked apart.
Sometimes watching the show, it felt like thats what episode focused on. I know, its about $, which is disgusting if you ask me.

I don't know, TLC is leaving a bad taste in my mouth for sure.
I completely agree how crappy that was to intertwine Jon and Kate with the birthday celebration.

I hope that they can work it out.....I wanted to cry through the whole show last night. I thought Jon looked very out of it. He was almost slurring words I thought. Hard to understand him. Sad, those babies miss their daddy:(

I was waiting for that. That's unreal numbers too!

Question - what does it take to "sponsor" a show or get like the Gymboree free clothes? I'm sorry I'm just dumb about this kind of stuff. Like how come Starbucks hasn't shelled out the cash (assuming they pay to sponsor the show or get their products on it)? It seems like there are always Starbucks cups being moved out of the way (blurred out of course!) and didn't Kate get Jon a gift card there for Valentine's Day or Christmas or their anniversary or something (I think I recall the kids helping her wrap it while he was at work)? Granted I don't drink Starbucks but have seen enough of the cups to recognize it (or maybe not - maybe it's another brand and I'm way off!). Just curious about that.

I'm not an expert on this by any means but since I don't see that this has been addressed in the last few pages, I'll give it a shot. ;) In the case of Gymboree, Starbucks, etc, whoever is product-placing on their show, those companies more than likely came to the Gosselins after the show was on for a while and their executives could see how many viewers there were. It's very worth it to them to have those adorable babies seen in their clothes; even if they give $5,000 a year of free clothes to the Gosselins (and it could be more, judging by how many outfits you see them in a season), they justify that by how many people might come into their store to buy since they saw the cute kids wearing the clothes. I read an article a while ago (can't recall where exactly) saying that now since lots of people have DVRs, TIVOs, etc, they are doing more product placement on TV shows rather than spending the $$ on commercials that people just fast-forward through. Once I read that, I started to see it all over. It's very interesting - watch any show, even a 30-minute sitcom, and count how many name brands you see (Coke, Pepsi, Toyota, Chrysler, Starbucks, Apple, etc).

Just my 2 cents on that. :goodvibes

I wish I had taped it so I could play it back. It looked so much like her
