What is the Best Cabin Loop To Stay In??

Here is what I have been doing to "scope out" the cabins. Go to http://maps.live.com/ and search for 4510 N. Fort Wilderness Trail, Lake Buena Vista Florida. Zoom in on the part of Fort Wilderness you want to see and then click on "Birds Eye View." It's really cool!

We are leaving tomorrow after staying 6 days in cabin 2135. It was in the middle of everything and had a comfort station right behind us. this was convenient to use the washer and dryer. Meadow outpost was a short walk and bus stop was very close. We had a golf cart which was really nice after coming back from MK at 2AM New Years Eve. But the cart was a convenience. We drove to the other parks. Cart was nice to go around and look at Christmas lights. Loop 2100 is not swampy.

Thanks for sharing this! I have used this site before and thought it used the same imagery as Google Earth (which I LOVE  ) but the aerials of FW are much sharper here! I could never get "Bird's Eye" to work though. Also, it shows the traffic direction which GE does not... confirming my suspicion the Cinnamon Fern Way is the only clockwise non-cabin loop (and that ALL cabin loops are CW). Thanks again!

I would request the 100 loop because it's close to the boat launch, store, restaurant, bus, beach, etc. Deb:thumbsup2

Hijacking this thread....we're bringing our bikes down and we'll bring locks...can we park them like we would a cart to get on bus go to pool or boat, etc.?

I don't want to spend the money for a cart.

If so I'm guessing loop number doesn't matter but location in loop might be good request...like close to entrance of a loop near pool? Would that be a good request that they might honor?

Thanks.

Trish

I would say that if you're not getting a cart it's all the more important to request a specific loop. But you need to consider what activities you are going to engage in the most. If you're going to be a park commando, the only loop that is within "reasonable" walking distance (good bike ride) to the Outpost Depot is 1700: there is a path from 1700 that shortcuts to Fort Wilderness Trail. If you will be spending a lot of time at the pool, tennis, campfire, or pond fishing, loops 600, 800-1100, 1300-1600 would be the most convenient. If you will be touring the Magic Kingdom alot, visiting other resorts, fishing in the lake, enjoying the beach, dining at Hoop and Trail's End then 100-400 and 700 would be ideal. What does that leave? 500, 1200, 1800-1900, and 2000... what are they, chopped liver?! Not at all! 500 is my favorite all-access loop, a nice combination of convenience to both the marina and the Meadow recreation area. 1200 is close to the pool without being on top of it, and it has easy access to two bus routes. 1800, 1900 and 2000 are all pretty isolated, which means quiet. All this to say, there is no such thing as a bad loop, but there are certainly different benefits to different loops.

I like the map but how do we know which loops are premium so then we can decide which we'd LIKE to TRY to get?

Currently, loops 400, 500, 600, 800, 1200, 1300 and 1400 are Premium. There is some uncertainty as to which of these are pet loops, though it seems that 400-800 are pet loops (since they have poop bag dispensers) and 1200, 1300 are not (since they don't) but have been used by guests with pets. 1400 was not supposed to be a pet loop, but until work is finished it's anyone's guess. I had requested front of the loop in 2200. It was full (president's week) and while they said we could move the following day, that was not appealing at all. 2703 ended up being PERFECT. It was half of my request (front of the loop) and even better, the groceries I'd ordered were already at the cabin waiting for me! Which at midnight was a beautiful thing. Meadows pool was closed for the big upgrade anyway so 2703 was a short walk to the swimmin hole pool, the bus stop or straight to the outpost if we didn't want to wait for the internal bus (which were pretty darn frequent!). We did not rent a cart and were absolutely fine but I completely agree, front of the loop is much better, I would not have wanted to be in the middle late at night walking back.

The only noise we heard was sitting on the deck, the sound of the Richard Petty driving experience. You could hear the cars racing! Which was actually kind of cool. It felt very private and secluded. We loved it!

Sorry I wasn't completely hijacking the thread...still staying with cabin theme. LOL.

But good to know for future [if we ever get that Class C ;) ].

Trish

we stayed in 2300. it was very quiet but still close to the bus...
Which cabin in the 2300 loop did you stay, we hope to get that loop next month and wondering which site number to request if it is at all possible (realizing there is no guarantee)?
