MiniGirl- I lost your pictures, but those outfits were adorable!!! I love the first one with the layered skirt!

Hello everyone! I'm new to this thread, but not the boards and I wanted to say that everyone's work is AMAZING! I'm so thankful right now that I don't have little girls because I think custom clothing could grow into an expensive hobby!
I don't really sew, but I am looking to make my sons some shirts for our September trip. I want to make something quick drying in case they get wet and I'd like something to keep them cool, maybe a simple tank top. So I guess I'm thinking something like a tank top type rash guard. What type of material would be best? Any other suggestions anyone?

I don't have any good ideas, but wanted to :welcome: you!

I have the peasant top (did you flare out the bottom or anything?)..but dont have that skirt pattern, but its really really CUTE!!!! I might try to fiddle to get a look like that - I do have a few skirt patterns, maybe I can combo a few??? anyway its adorable - i'd love to see the other looks the pattern can make - i have a wish list on ycmt!! lol!!

SERGER HELP!! Hi Everyone, I have the singer from Walmart - i just cant seem to get the tension right - I have tried and tried, got books, looked online!!!! AHHHHHH soooooooo frustrated!!! mainly it looks like one or both of the loopers is either too tight or too loose, the bottom is "loose" and maybe the upper loop is being pulled around? Also, i cant seem to get the seem tight enough to be a real seam, it pulls out - i have to stitch with the regular sewing machine first......any tips before i pull all my hair out???? :rotfl2:
Does it look ok from the outside? Could you post a picture? If I don't use the sewing machine first, the actual seam is kind of wide looking. I don't know that there is a way to fix that, I think it might just be the way the serger works.

Love all the outfits posted adorable .
I am off to bed with a horrible earache i just can't function anymore for the night.

Ohh, get some rest and feel better! Brian and Corey both had horrible earaches this weekend, which is really unusual for both of them. They were in a lot of pain.

OMG, I am in the begging stages but we just might do a WDW trip THIS month! We have wdw tickets, a great water back pack, and we are NOT staying onsite. I am seeing flights/rooms for around $270 per person!!!! Now i just need to convince hubby that we NEED to go NOW!!!

Any adult customs ideas that could be done within a week??? (and VERY cheaply)

I did a Snow White and a Belle inspired outfit when we went in May. I have pictures in my TR. I will try to find them and post them here too.
Ok, found them

Obviously, neither was the most flattering look, but it was a lot of fun!

New REALLY BIG Big GIVE!!!

This is the tinytreasures Big Give. They have 5 children, and they have three extra adults going to help them out! So, that makes for a LOT of outfits and family shirts. Kathleen offered to pay for the shirts for the family, but I told her that we would try to get them made for her. Since this is SO many, I'm going to suggest that several people sign up to do the family shirts and that we not worry about them all being the same color. It would be best if the designs were the same for all the shirts though. I really want to come through for them on this one! I know we can do it! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

If you have never signed up for a Give, this would be a GREAT one to get in on! We are going to need A LOT of help to get this one done!

Here's a linky for yah!

If you use heat and bond ultra - you can create basic applique-looking shirts without any sewing. You just need a shape or pattern you want, the heat and bond ultra, a t-shirt and coordinating fabric. I made these for DH and I in under 30 minutes from printer to done:

They look great! Do they make it through the wash ok?

Keep in mind that I do not have a Disney trip planned for anytime in the next few years. They had the Red with white dots and I got 5 yards. I have no idea what I am going to do with it but I had to have it. I also got a yard each of the orange with dots, the green, the blue, the brown and 3 yards of the black. I was hoping they would have yellow and purple too but no such luck.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this because I'm brand new to this forum. I am so in awe of everyone's talent! I've been lurking a lot over the last few days and keep coming across the cutest Mickey fabric. It's a lime green fabric with multi-colored Mickey head "swirls" on it. Does anyone know where I might find some of this fabric? I don't sew, but my mom does (a little), and I'd love to make something for my DD out of this fabric. Any help/advice is appreciated.

You might try Ebay. I know that fabric was at Joanns but it has been a while (over a year) since I have seen it there.

I haven't had time to do a Big Give in a while but I just signed up for this one.

OK, so I promised pics of the stuff I made this weekend. Here they are:

Fleece pyjamas with the Easy Fit pants CarlaC pattern, worn with a stylish, but uncoordinated Yu-Gi-Oh pyjama top.

Fleece pyjamas with the Easy Fit pants CarlaC pattern, worn with the equally stylish Shirt of Skulls.

And here is a pic of the Raglan Hoodie I made. It went together super easy. I had a bit of trouble in that once I attached the hood it looked as though it might come apart at the front where the pieces meet. So, I sewed in a little 'gusset'. Next time I will make the hood so that it overlaps, not just the butted one. (And since he wore the pyjama pants aaaaaaaalllllll weekend you get to seem them again too.)

Great job!

Cool now I know what to do with that 10 yard roll my mom bought me thinking it was ok for appliqueing!

Thanks for the info! Anyone know what the "proper" name of the fabric is so that I can do a search on :wizard: ? Thanks again!

Probably someone along the way already responded, but just in case...

Hi all, I was wanting to make some LONG sleeved pj's for a couple kiddos and i am DESPERATE for a pattern. Any suggestions? I thought about the bowling shirt but its short sleeved and i have NO clue how long to make the sleeves for the various sizes.

I used CarlaC's bowling shirt and just measured DD's arm from shoulder to wrist and made the sleeve piece elongated to that plus 1 1/2" (for hemming). Turned out great. Though I don't think I've posted a pic yet...gotta do that.

I need a little advice on American Girl stuff too...

My girls got Samantha for Christmas and for Valentine's Day I ordered the Samantha chair and table set and one of her beds. We have two dolls (one for Grace and one for Claire - poor Lilly didn't get one but if it causes problems I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!) should I order a second Samantha bed or wait and order a different doll's bed? I am worried that the girls will fight over whose doll gets the bed. I'm not normally this indulgent with my kids but since the line is being retired I don't want to regret not buying it. I figure eventually they will get a new doll and I can always order that doll's bed so we will have two beds. And I do really hate to spend money on toys but these are special and I do want them to enjoy them so any suggestions I would appreciate!

Oh, and my in-laws bought them Fancy Nancy dolls for Christmas. I was comparing them to the AG dolls and they look about the same size. Do you think they could wear the same size clothes when I get around to making them?

Probably anything you make will fit both, but watch out for store bought stuff. I thought the American Girl-like stuff at Target (I forget what they call them) would fit DD's Samantha doll, but no such luck! Boots wouldn't fit her feet and dress was too short and too skinny. :(

Ugg! I am so mad! I just got home from picking the kids up from school and was almost rear ended by a tractor-trailer! And to top it all off, it was becuase I stopped for the police man directing traffic and he YELLED AT ME! He had his hand up stopping traffic, I stopped, the truck almost hits me...I mean squeling tires, brakes locking up, sliding behind me the whole nine, and the officer walks up to my car window and yelled at me! I was in a school zone right down from my house that I drive thru EVERYDAY twice a day at least...I knew to drive slow, and then as I am pulling away, he is laughing with the truck driver!:headache: I am not happy! EEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I feel better now! Just had to get that out!:sad2:

Oh my goodness! Glad you are okay.

I have almost completed the Noah MAW outfits. I did add the ruffles to the sleeves and figured out how to do it myself:banana: There is a pucker on the bottom of the Cinderella square. I have pressed it a few times and am extremely upset that it is not perfect. I don't know if I will send the shirt that matches the skirt.

I have asked the High School home ec teacher if I may use the embroidery machine to put Kailyn's name in cursive along the hem. If she says yes, then the outfit will be finished once I add it in.

I used Stich and Rip and it leave behind in the stitches. How do I get it out?

Oh my goodness, that is just horrible. Did you get the officers number and name? I hate the good Ol' boys club. Just take a few deep breaths and know that in a few days this will pass. Still what an A$$.

Don't feel bad- I bought a BOLT of the red dot. I have fabric issues lol.
