Hello everyone! I'm new to this thread, but not the boards and I wanted to say that everyone's work is AMAZING! I'm so thankful right now that I don't have little girls because I think custom clothing could grow into an expensive hobby!
I don't really sew, but I am looking to make my sons some shirts for our September trip. I want to make something quick drying in case they get wet and I'd like something to keep them cool, maybe a simple tank top. So I guess I'm thinking something like a tank top type rash guard. What type of material would be best? Any other suggestions anyone?

So, now that I'm all caught up I thought I would share some things that I've been working on. These were done before I got really sick. Forgive the marked out faces. I'm sure the girls' mom wouldn't mind me posting these; but since I haven't specifically asked, I am doing this.

I also made a hat for the last outfit, but I don't have any pics of it.

Fantastic outfits! Love the pants, are those a farbenmix pattern or are they off of youcanmakethis? Wonderful job!

I have no suggestions for quick drying fabric that you would be able to buy. I personally like cotton. Lots of us (myself included) love the bowling shirt pattern off of www.youcanmakethis.com. You can also adapt the easy fit pants pattern from the same website to shorts instead of pants. Both patterns are fairly simple to follow and wonderfully written. Good luck and please come back and show us what you made!

What was the website of the cute shoes that most of you buy from. I wanted to look at them, not that I can afford it, but it's fun to look.

Both of these patterns are from YCMT. The top is a simple peasant shirt with long sleeves. I shirred the neckline, put a few rows of shirring on the bodice, and the sleeves. The skirt is the Bowznstuff Triple Layer Twirl skirt. I love the pattern and use it a lot. I find it very easy to change the hem on one or more of the layers to give it a whole new look. On this one I didn't change the hem, but I did add the tulle to the bottom layer.

I have the peasant top (did you flare out the bottom or anything?)..but dont have that skirt pattern, but its really really CUTE!!!! I might try to fiddle to get a look like that - I do have a few skirt patterns, maybe I can combo a few??? anyway its adorable - i'd love to see the other looks the pattern can make - i have a wish list on ycmt!! lol!!

SERGER HELP!! Hi Everyone, I have the singer from Walmart - i just cant seem to get the tension right - I have tried and tried, got books, looked online!!!! AHHHHHH soooooooo frustrated!!! mainly it looks like one or both of the loopers is either too tight or too loose, the bottom is "loose" and maybe the upper loop is being pulled around? Also, i cant seem to get the seem tight enough to be a real seam, it pulls out - i have to stitch with the regular sewing machine first......any tips before i pull all my hair out???? :rotfl2:

NEED BUTTON HELP!!!!

I made dd the bowling shirt for her bday and I put buttons on it. The buttons were fine. Washed it and all but 1 button came off. What did I do wrong? What special tips do you have for keeping buttons on? Special thread? Special knots? Help!

Are you talking about the Lelly Kelli's? I have bought them from Nordstroms and Zappos.com . I love zappos! If you order from www.zappos.com order the free shipping option. I have always gotten them the next day. And they have free returns too. Great customer service!

If you are sewing on a regular flat two or four hole button, I use my sewing machine to sew them on. On other types of buttons I sew through the buttons probably 8 or so times and tie several knots. I'm sure there is a real method you should use but this is what I do!

I'm hand sewing them on. They have a slot through the back of the button from top to bottom. It's kind of weird. It's not a shank but part of the actual button. I don't think I can put regular buttons on with my machine. I don't think....I don't have a manual. LOL Maybe I need step by step instructions. LOL. I went through about 4 times and tied a ton of knots but I guess that didn't work. lol

My kids wear a 7 1/2 and a 10 from striderite. How do I decide what size to order? I saw some cheap sandals! (puddle jumpers or sandals) I like the mary janes too

OMG, I am in the begging stages but we just might do a WDW trip THIS month! We have wdw tickets, a great water back pack, and we are NOT staying onsite. I am seeing flights/rooms for around $270 per person!!!! Now i just need to convince hubby that we NEED to go NOW!!!

Any adult customs ideas that could be done within a week??? (and VERY cheaply)

Hope you are able to go. Simple Mickey head t-shirt and jeans are the quickest thing to do and are appropriate for adults. There was also someone here awhile back (sorry don't remember her name) who dressed in colors that were like the princesses. For example, she had a picture of herself wearing a blue v-neck tee over a red tank (or it could've been a red tee over a blue tank, but you get the picture) with a long, knit yellow skirt. That was her Snow Whitecustom. It, of course, didn't actually look like Snow and she didn't have a pic of Snow appliqued on it, but you could definitely tell it was Snow. I thought that was a cute and clever way for an ault to get in on the fun and still look like an adult, KWIM?

Hope your headache is gone after a good night's sleep.

Hi Guys,

Would 30, 6" squares be enough for a rag quilt? also, will flannel work for a rag quilt (to fuzzy) or does it need to be regular fabric????

thanks!!
Not sure how many sqs I used but i loved flannel for it! i think Piper answered your other question.

That would be fun. I'd be in too if I could make it work.

I lost one of your quotes, but you asked where I'm at. We're in St. Charles, but west of the city limits. I was in Woodstock once, a long time ago, for a Martha Pullen class.

The jammies came out great! No wonder Nikki looks so happy with them.
St Charles is about 40 minutes i believe? We will ahve to try to meet one day maybe hit a Joann's! :rotfl:
Not that I need anymore fabric......... and I should be sewing with what I have;)

But Joanns has the calico wall at 50% which means all those wonderful polka dots are 2.00 a yard!!!

I just went and saved 90.00 (Never mind how much I spent LOL:rolleyes1 )
I saw that yesterday but I couldn't get out of the red tag department! I found the pink princess sparkle material for 2.50 a yrd:scared1: Nikki had been eying tat for awhile since it is still princess but yet it doesn't scream princess. You know she is a big 9 yr old now and god forbid she has princesses on stuff outside WDW but this fabric is perfect! I also found orange and yellow Star Wars fabric for Kyle:banana: And some Tink fabric each for I think $2 a yard! There wasn't much left of any so I bought what they had and i figured I could add to it. they also had a bunch of stuff for a $1 so i couldn't pass it up! So by the time I hit the calico I was broke! :confused3
Found some more pictures...

Really cute!

 OMGosh did you just say you wanna case something that "I" made??? WOW....I am speechless and very flattered!!! Thank you so much...please feel free to case away. I am sure you can do a better job than me. Hahaha.

Anyway, here is a quick pic to show the whole outfit, not the best picture to show off the outfit but hopefully you can see it a little better. I embroidered both Mickey and Minnie on the shirt as well as on the pant legs. lol. Thanks again!

Oh Nikki looks so cute in her new jammies!!! Way to go!!!
So sweet! I love that it would be adorable on my niece! Now Goerge just needs to get me my embroidery machine which he is turning into an indian giver on:headache:  He now says we have no money and need to save our money for WDW well hate to inform him we would have an extra $1000 if he didn't go and be selfish and got to Cali for a stupid Football game!!!!!!!! So the way I see it he may call HIS WDW trip off but me and the kids are going to go with out him if need be! He had his trip don't mess with ours! sorry vent over!

This is the first hat I have ever made!!! This is for Andrew, my son, for our upcoming trip. I am making him a bowling shirt to match. And one for my husband too!!

Great job!

My Grandmother (Dad's mom) has lived more than half of her life with Chrones. He does know how to live with it, it is just a matter of DOING it. Your story of your DH and you is definitely inspiring though. I will keep you in mind if I have questions. Thank you:)
The bummer about Chrones and Colitis is it is hereditary so chances are it does run in families. There are a few people in George's family who have it/ had it. His Great Grandma had a bag and died form and infection in it many yrs ago so when George had his he family was so freaked out. You got to do what you got to do right! I hope he feels better.

Very cute. I think I may need that bucket hat pattern before summer. My boys would prob. like it.

Very cute stuff. Love the pants.

OK, so I promised pics of the stuff I made this weekend. Here they are:

Fleece pyjamas with the Easy Fit pants CarlaC pattern, worn with a stylish, but uncoordinated Yu-Gi-Oh pyjama top.

Fleece pyjamas with the Easy Fit pants CarlaC pattern, worn with the equally stylish Shirt of Skulls.

And here is a pic of the Raglan Hoodie I made. It went together super easy. I had a bit of trouble in that once I attached the hood it looked as though it might come apart at the front where the pieces meet. So, I sewed in a little 'gusset'. Next time I will make the hood so that it overlaps, not just the butted one. (And since he wore the pyjama pants aaaaaaaalllllll weekend you get to seem them again too.)
