New Jersey - Favorite Restaurants?

I grew up in Wayne and I remember going to Victoria Station as a child, it was a real special treat!
Going back last Christmas, it was sad to see so many of our favorite restaurants and pizza places closed!

I went to Rutgers and a meal at Suff Yer Face followed by dessert at Thomas Sweet was a poor college kids' dream dinner!

My parents got engaged at Rutt's Hut well over 50 years ago and is still a fav. place of ours to stop and eat.

I got engaged at Shanghai Red's and I heard that burned down? a while back so I know it is sad to have memories gone!

I think Shanghai Red's is now a Chart House.... still a great view of the Hudson and NYC. Food is so-so and overpriced, but you are paying for the great view.

karenos;)

legal seafood (garden state plaza, paramus)

grand luxe cafe (garden state plaza, paramus)

outback (route 17, paramus)

lone star (route 17, paramus)

cheesecake factory (riverside square mall)

rainforest cafe (menlo park mall, cherry hill)

There used to be a Stuff Yer Face in Long Branch years ago before the pier burned down. It was across the street from the beach.

I grew up in Highland Park. That was a typical Saturday night for my friends and me!

Yumm...Juanitos and Arthurs (we used to go to the one in New Brunswick, I think they closed :( ).

Jose Tejas - Woodbridge
Harold's Deli - Edison

The sheer amount of food at Harold's makes me want to vomit.

Shanghai Red's - Wow that brought back alot of memories, we use to go there all the time!

:wave2: I grew up in Pompton Plains. :)

So sorry your special restaurant is gone, too!

great picks, but i gotta add a couple...

mr pi's sushi - metuchen
marita's cantina - new brunswick
white manna - hackensack
magnifiico's ice cream - south river
tick-tock - clifton

I'm five minutes from the tick-tock - one of my favorite diners!

That is correct and I agree - although it has a great view, the food is just okay.

Rutts Hut is my DH's favorite place. He can eat fried hot dogs all da way everyday. The Coral in Peterson also has good Texas Weiner's & fries all da way.

Kermit's Pond is gone.
The Haufbrau is gone - it's now Tiff's
94th Bomber - gone! That was such a cool place to go hang out. Shame.
With Love - gone, I think it's a nursery school now

The Pompton Queen is one of my favorite diners along with Tick Tock. I ate at Pompton Queen a lot when I was pregnant, I was addicted to their Disco Fries. I agree the Queen salad is really good.:thumbsup2

Some of my favs:
E&V, Paterson - THE best Italian you will ever have
Franklin Steakhouse, Nutley
Cafe Metro, Denville (vegitarian)
El Cid, Paramus (Portugese)
Portugese Tavern, Paterson
Francesco's, West Paterson (Italian)
River Palm Terrace, Paramus
Uncle Bill's Pancake House of course :lovestruc
Houston's, Riverside Square Mall

Haven't eaten in E&V's in years - great food, but I have so many closer Italian restaurants. We eat at the steakhouse at least once a month, and DH is also a big fan of Rutts!

Magical view, "icky overcooked" fish.

We still bring people there for a cocktail when they are from out of town.

Anyone know if the Spindletop Diner is still on 23 in Wayne? How about The Claremont diner? I'm not sure if that was in Cedar Grove or Verona. That was the best!

Really - E&V's - the best? I didn't particularly care for it. I think the best Italian Food is at The Appian Way - Orange, NJ

For fancy shmancy - you can't beat:

The Manor & Highlawn Pavillion - both in West Orange.

A newer restaurant out in Fairfield is Calanda's Mediterrean Grill.

I also love (its a chain I know) - but The Cheesecake Factory in Wayne.

There is also a really good restaurant in Atlantic City - so good - they don't advertise - you learn about it word of mouth. Its in a house basement - and it is always packed - you need reservations.

The name? Ok -- you've drug it out of me - Chef Vola.

Real authentic Northeastern Italian food!!!!

Also - forgot to add Don Pepe in Newark and Fairfield........

OMG, blast from the past - Spindletop! No, it's been about 10 different things since it was Spindletop. That was my brother's hangout when he was in high school. The Wayne Manor is gone too. They tore it down completely and put up a BMW dealership.

.

Another blast from the past.

The Manor is where we had our prom, way, way, WAY back in '76.
Ramapo HS, class of '76

Guess I'm in the minority. DH and I really like the Chart House. Love their spinach salad, steak, and hot chocolate lava cake for dessert. DH had fish there and didn't have a problem with it being overcooked.

we used to be regulars at the Franklin Steakhouse but prob haven't been there in about 5 years....wayyyyy too much shady 'stuff' going down in there

We love Ralph's in Nutley, had our rehearsal dinner in their party room
Church Street Kitchen in Montclair
Blu in Montclair
Sushi Lounge in Totowa/Morristown/Hoboken
Paisano's in Rutherford

How is the party room? I was driving by there last night, and was wondering - I don't know anyone who has used it yet. I like their food, and Gus makes a mean pie!
