So sad that your son was harassed in 2nd grade for this:sad2: I was so proud as a kid to say my uncle was a cop, but I guess times have changed:confused3
Good to hear stories like this (and the ones before this) as it helps us all to understand things a little better.

That's interesting, my DS8's 2nd grade class did a 6-month "Mini Society" project - they had to fill out applications of jobs and do interviews with the 3rd graders who had those jobs last year. More than 1/2 the boys wanted to be police. DS8 got the job and was sooooo excited. My baby brother is a cop, as was FIL for 30 years (20 years on Cleveland SWAT team).

Good to hear it hasn't changed that much everywhere. Maybe the attitude towards police depend upon where you live and a person's experiences:confused3

This is wonderful.................Now I need to go fins some patches~!

I just went online to check on our HoJo's reservation and things have changed with our booking....mainly the rate posted on their site,is NOT the rate that we were quoted over the phone!! We were given a quote of $67.20 + tax for our 1st night and I booked another night about a month later, at $99.50 + tax. Now they are trying to say that our rate is $99.50 for both nights. I know that it doesn't seem like a lot of money but it is. Kevin sent them an email this evening and will follow up with a phone call tomorrow.
I can't remember when we first booked these things or where to find anything about it on the Pirate Page. :confused3

EXACTLY ONE MONTH FROM RIGHT NOW...
We will be sound asleep at in our room at the Anaheim HoJos!!!
YAY!

Hmmm, so I saw your post and decided to check my reservation...
my price went DOWN!

I was quoted $99 ($94 w/military discount) way back March-ish 2007. I could never get an e-mail confirmation out of them either. I just have a post-it note that I wrote my confirmation number and rate on.

Now my rate is $79.20 :dance3:
I'm going to print that page!!

OOOHHH.....I am calling to check on my ressies tonight!

Congrats to all with room assignments!

Ya know, I have asked them 3 times to send a hard copy confirmation and have never received it - I gave up. This makes me nervous. I want to say March of '07 is when the special rate was annouced.

They never sent me anything either. Not an even a email confirmation. :confused3

I think I am going to need another door for all of these magnets! Anyways...Richard found a cute backround from Cars and I did this one for our anniversary..

That's sweeeet!! :lovestruc

That was the price I originally had, then someone posted about the entertainment book rates and I got that one for around 57.

Got nervous and checked the ressie. Total for the 2 nights 124.20. Will print it off. Now have toremember to take the card with me to lock it in.

Weird - wrong quote showed up!

Cheryl!!!! I thought you were walking to the fort with Dan & I :(

<<Missing quote about getting settled before lifeboat drill >>

Maybe others carry on more than we do :rotfl2: I dont think one can really "get settled" in the room with nothing to unpack. Out of 3 cruises, on 2 we didn't have luggage until after the lifeboat drill. On the 3rd it showed up just as we were leaving for the lifeboat drill.

Pamela

I am giving mine up!!:flower3:

Just think how lucky you would be if you sat between Stephanie and Me!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I was lucky Saturday at our mini meet, I sat between Cheryl and Tracy. I'm still trying to recover my hearing.:scared1:

Hmmm last i left it.... I hung up on her after she insulted me. I'm thinking I'll take a lesson from someone around here and just leave her out of our lives for now. It's all for the better....

On the job front, I did get a response from a firm in Westminster that they would like to schedule an interview. Now i just have to wait for them to call.

OK that's 2 calls i'm waiting for now.... Now if only Mr. McMahon would show up on my doorstep. :scared:

Your mom should be your "soft place to fall" right now. I'm sorry she is not there for you.

If the relationship is toxic, it is best that you give it space. You can still love her from a safe distance. Keep in mind you may never be able to "change" her, so this may be the mom what have to learn to accept. Don't have any expectations of her, so she can not disappoint you. I do pray that your relationship can heal, though. I know it must cause you a lot of pain.

Best of luck with getting an interview!:wizard:

I know my DD would love to have a bumper sticker like that, but you are so right...it would probably put her in danger. What a shame......:sad2:

Its a shame that given the country we live in, this is true. My dad retired after 35 years as a police officer. When I was in Jr. High, I got sucker punched (back of head from behind) walking down the street because some add my dad had arrested years before recognized me as his son.

What a joy.

Better yet.... "Hey watch me attempt to make my first Basked Alaska"

I love that one!!:rotfl2:

We live fairly close to a main road through our town and we hear a good amount of sirens. The girls and I always say "God Bless the person who needs help". Sounds like we need to add "and the person going to help them".
Since my lifes goal was to be Angie Dickinson, I always support The Blue. :thumbsup2

I really have to get more organized. Every night I add new dreams/nightmares. I have to thank all my fellow cruisers that brought food over the other night to share in my HUGE fantasy kitchen, and stayed the night in my HUGE beautiful house the night before the cruise. (It was the dream ;) ).
I still have left printing door signs, labeling FE gifts, trying on and putting together outfits for all of us and I am sure a lot more.
I got the basics- cruise paid for, onboard fund funded, received my rewards card, have passports, housesitter, transportation to and from airport in all ports and home, hotel in San Pedro. Everything else may or may not happen.

sounds pretty organized to me.. everything will fall into place.. and in one month, :dance3: you know that you'll be on the ship and having a great time...

Same here. We will be on the Hollywood tour that day too!

Wow! I guess I didn't talk that much! :confused3

Hope everyone has a good day. Getting up to the high 80's and humid.

We have been assigned a room...:dance3: :dance3:
Melody and Georgiana are in room 8574:goodvibes

Met up with Melody yesterday since we are at WDW and she lives a few miles for here. This is the first time we have been able to go over all the plans since she lives in FL and I live in DE. Shared the pirate: newsletters.
Now have to find the list of all the people I need to let know where we are...
Thanks again to all of you that are organizing all the super events... and helping this first time cruiser that joined the crew and ship a couple of months ago. :surfweb:
Georgiana

Congrats - another escapee from the lifeboats.

But, hey, does that really matter? :)

I want to run a piece of email by you to see what you think. I know that some of you on this thread are also DVC members. I get emailed and pm'd a lot about DVC and my thoughts, so I decided to put a little something together. I wanted to see what you all think, suggestions you might have, et cetera.

Here goes:
______________________________

I am frequently asked my opinion about DVC, particularly about making the decision to purchase, whether it should be resale or direct from Disney, et cetera. I always write quick responses to people, but have decided to put some of my thoughts down into this FAQ of sorts. If it helps you, all the better. If it does not, ignore it and pretend you never heard from me! J
Some quick thoughts:
  • DVC or resale? There is a “reservation window” to consider. A DVC member has the opportunity to make reservations 11 months ahead of time at the “home resort” – the resort into which the points were purchased. If a member wishes to make a reservation at a non-home resort, that member must wait until 7 months before the vacation. It is becoming harder, as more people come into DVC, to get a place at the 7 month reservation window. If you want to stay anywhere particular, especially at high demand times/seasons, it would be best to purchase where you wish to stay so that you have an 11 month reservation window. That is the main reason for purchasing resale. Because if you purchase direct from Disney, you can only make an initial purchase at the location(s) that are presently on sale. I think I heard that Saratoga Springs has sold out or will sell out soon, so that would leave Animal Kingdom Villas. So, if you want to stay somewhere else fairly regularly, you would want to pursue resale.
  • Will DVC benefit me anywhere? Buyers should purchase only if they are planning to spend their time at the DVC locations. If someone is making a DVC purchase with the hopes of trading their ownership out for rent in other timeshares such as Interval International, they may find that they will lose a lot in the process. They often do not get the trade/deal that they want. If they get a place, they trade away more points than worth the trade (example, they trade away points for a 2 bedroom Disney and only get a 1 bedroom somewhere else.) Additionally, if purchasing DVC to stay at other Disney hotels or to use for Disney Cruise Line, a person would be money ahead simply looking for rent deals or discounted vacation times and pay cash rather than trade out points along with a reservation fee. Right now, Disney charges a $95 transaction fee for using DVC points at their other non-DVC hotels at Walt Disney World or on the cruise line.
  • Where should I buy? Potential buyers should go to Disney and spend time at the different areas rather than buying "the best deal." For myself, all my points are at the Boardwalk because that is where I stay 90% of the time. I love the area because it is a close walk to Disney's Hollywood Studios and to EPCOT. Other people do not like that area at all, preferring a Downtown Disney location at Saratoga Springs. So, make sure you take the chance to view all the locations and decide what is best for you. There are a lot of "experts" out there who would like to tell you what is best for you. However, you are the only person who knows what you like! Go with your preferences, not someone else's.
  • How many points should I purchase? In determining how much to buy, you want to ask yourself the following questions:
1. Where do I want to stay.
2. How long will my average stay be?
3. What type of accommodation (Studio, One Bedroom, Two Bedroom, Grand Villa) would I prefer?
4. How many vacations will I take each year?
5. What time of year will I plan to go?

Look through the point charts for the amount of points needed for unit, time of year, and length of stay(s). That will give you a good idea about the number of points you would want to purchase.

  • Buying resale. If you choose to purchase resale, decide where you want to be, how much you are willing to pay, and pounce when you see something you like. Resale inventory usually does not stay listed very long because DVC moves rather quickly.
  • Can I afford my purchase? When planning a purchase, make sure that you will be able to purchase outright or meet mortgage payments on it. You do not want to lose what you purchased. In figuring the affordability factor, make sure that you figure in your annual maintenance fees as well.
I hope this gives you some of the information you need to make a decision.

Have a Disney day!

Mike
