Trip report part 6- - Yeeha -A fistful of Euros!

Thursday 27th March

Cast:
Me - 5th time to DLP
DH - 5th time to DLP
DD (8) - 5th time to DLP
DS (21) - 1st time to DLP but has been to WDW 3 times but not for over 10 yrs

We hadn’t set the alarm this morning but had a 7.00 breakfast slot again. Again we sent DH to have his alone and collect some for us. We munched while getting ready and set off for the station. We were still all very tired from yesterday so decided to get the bus instead of walking – it reminded me of why we do walk most of the time!!!
We were glad we had got our tickets the night before as again there was a massive queue waiting to buy them. We got on a train and started planning what we were going to see.
Again we got off the train at Charles de Gaulle Etoile but this time got on the metro to Trocadero (line 6 ). We got off at Trocadero (again admiring the view of it from there especially as the sky was so blue) and walked down towards the Eiffel Tower.

We wandered about a little bit underneath it but decided against going up. We then walked along the river a little bit towards Pont d’Alma as we wanted to catch the metro from there to the Latin Quarter (Left Bank) where we knew there were lots of cheap restaurants. We got off at St Michel and as is usual in that area we were unsure which way to walk. We have eaten at several nice but cheap restaurants in this area in the past but can never find them again so we always end up at different ones. We walked down a few narrow streets and found a nice looking place on a corner. It had a set menu for €12 with several choices for each course. We had just got in and sat down when it started to pour down – phew just in time. Im testing my memory now to try and remember what we all had but I think
I had Charcuterie (plate of mixed salamis and pate), Tartiflette (potatoes with bacon, cheese, cream) and Ice cream with chocolate sauce
DH had French Onion Soup, Boeuf Bourginon and Chips, Crepe with Grand Marnier (€2 supplement)
DS had Charcuterie, Steak and Chips and Crème Brulee
DD had French Onion Soup, Chicken and Chips and Chocolate crepe.
We all had the house wine which was excellent (except DD who had coke) followed by coffee.
By the time we had finished eating the rain had cleared up again so we wandered towards the river and then along the left bank browsing at the bouquinists and spending quite a lot of time looking at the different paintings.
We pointed out to DS which apartment overlooking the river he could buy us when he’s rich but later on he pointed out a small alcove in the river wall under a bridge and commented that it was big enough for 2 sleeping bags so I think that’s all we’re likely to get.
It then started to drizzle again as we crossed over Pont Neuf onto the right bank and made our way towards the Louvre. The rain started coming down heavier so we quickly crossed the road and made for the shelter of one of the Arch ways leading into the Louvre courtyard. We had just taken shelter when the rain cleared again so we wandered into the central courtyard by the Pyramid. I love the outside of the Louvre and commented that I could sit in that courtyard for hours just watching the world go by but I really don’t like the Pyramid. Being able to remember what it was like before they put the Pyramid there I think it spoils it.

We stood by the Arc du Carrousel where we could see through the Jardin des Tuileries, past Place de la Concorde all the way up the Champs Elysee to the Arc de Triomphe. We walked through the Jardin for a little bit then out onto Rue de Rivoli to our favourite tea room – Angelinas for their wonderful hot chocolate and cakes. DH and DS had a selection of different flavoured Macaroons (Spot the Hidden Mickey),

DD had a chocolate cake and I didn’t really want anything to eat. DH and I had the special hot chocolate (DH also had a Citron presse), DD had a sprite and DS had tea. We then strolled along the rest of Rue de Rivoli to Place de la Concorde where we got on metro to part way up Champs Elysee.

We could have gone all the way to the top but wanted to walk part of it but were too tired to walk it all so got off at Georges 5 (line 1) and walked the rest of the way. After admiring the Arc de Triomphe we went down to Charles de Gaulle Etoile station to catch the RER home. Again it was very busy – we were a bit earlier than last time but still seemed to be caught up with everyone going home and it was busy until we got to Val d’Europe station.

We decided to go into the park to catch Candlebration. Before we did this we decided to go into the Disneyland Hotel for a look round. We made our way to the 2nd floor where the shop, bar and restaurants are situated. We browsed in the shop and that’s when DH found our bargain- From Sketch to Reality reduced from €100 to €44. We then got another 20% off we our dream pass – quite a bargain. We then went to look in the bar and decided we would come back for a drink sometime. We entered the park and walked up mainstreet. It looked as though it might pour down again so we found a spot under a shelter by a Popcorn stall that was closed. We enjoyed Candlebration but it wasn’t really dark enough.

After it had finished we went through the castle to introduce DS to the dragon and show him the 3 fairies in the sweet shop. We then made our way out of the park looking in a few shops on route. We then decided to go back into the Disneyland hotel for a cocktail however when we looked at the prices we decided against it – almost twice as much as Sequioa Lodge. We had expected to pay a bit more here but it seemed a bit steep. Instead we walked round to Sequoia Lodge and ordered sandwiches. DH and I had cocktails, DS had a fruit drink and DD had a make your own cocktail (non alcoholic) in a souvenir shaker.
Then we made our way back to Cheyenne tired and ready for a long sleep before our next busy day. Before falling into bed we went to have a look at the bar at Cheyenne but it was too busy and crowded and there were no seats so we had a quick look in the shop first before falling into bed.

wow, you packed so much into one day, your photos of paris are lovely, we have always debated whether to take a trip into Paris but thought it would be difficult to find our way around, you make it sound fairly straightforward so might give it a try. :thumbsup2

I am enjoying reading your reports. You certainly get a lot done in a day! I love Paris & would love to get a day trip in, but I don't think it would be very enjoyable with a 17 mth old!

Another great report and photos :)

I love the pyramid, but them Pompidou is one of my favourite places in Paris so you can see I love the juxoposition of old and new :)

Lovely photos!!! You did quite well in Paris - packed a lot in! I looove Paris!!!

Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like a great day out :goodvibes

Your sketch to reality book was a bargain !

I love the thought of afternoon tea in Paris :lovestruc

We thought that the cocktails were a bit pricey in the DLH too  . On one of our previous trips we had one there , one in the Hotel New York and then one in the Sequioa lodge (don't worry we had Granny there who was sober to look after DD :rotfl: )and they seemed to decrease by a factor of two as we travelled

Another busy & great day, you saw a lot more of Paris then we managed. Love the photos:thumbsup2

A lovely day ~ certainly one for bargains!! That lunch in Paris was excellent value at €12 :thumbsup2 and I hope you enjoy your book. :goodvibes

I like the pyramid (had to go see it after reading the Da Vinci Code :rotfl: ) but can't really compare as I've only been into Paris once and didn't see it without.
