Please count me in for this. My goal for January is 5 lbs!
Good Morning!
Two more days left in 2012.
Today we are going to talk some more about food. Tomorrow exercise and a bonus year end question.
QOTD December 30, 2012
You have weight watchers, nutrisystem, Dr. Oz, paleo, south beach, atkins, my fitness pal, etc. There are no shortage of ways to help you lose weight. I am a big believer in failing to plan is planning to fail.
So removing exercise from the equation (we will talk about that tomorrow) what is your plan?
Be as specific as you feel comfortable. Some of your fellow participants might get some good ideas.
I'm on WW - I truly believe it's the easiest most sensible plan out there. Fellow WW's also turned me on to the book The Beck Diet Solution. It's a diet companion book that focuses on the behavioral side of things and gives daily activities to help overcome sabotaging thoughts that make you fall off the wagon. I've read a bit of it but haven't yet started any of the activities. I'll be getting into those this time around too.
Count me in however I am going to have tone creative with my goals....tripped going up some stairs Friday and broke my arm
Will have to have surgery this week on it
Ideally wanted to be down to 145 by May 1 as that is our Disney trip but walking is even difficult at this point
What kind of a handicap can i get weight wise with full cast?!? LOL
Good morning!
Last day of 2012!
QOTD December 31, 2012
1. What is your exercise plan for this month? Do you have long term goals? I read something that said that women over 40 need 60 minutes of cardio a day. Which is overwhelming. And who knows if it is even true. But I do believe we need some form of exercise to lose weight and to stay healthy.
2. When we find ourselves in that position of needing to lose (in my case, again) it is easy to be negative and get down on ourselves. To play the shoulda, woulda, coulda game and to call ourselves all kinds of not nice things.
Starting today and for the entire month of January, I want you to say something positive about yourself. I would prefer that it not be--I am a good wife, mom, sister, cousin, aunt, etc. You can say it in a post, or just say it in your head or write it down in a journal, but I want you to make a conscious effort to say something good every day for a month. And if all you got for that day is I am a good Mom, then that's good enough.
I hope whatever you have planned for today, that you have a happy, healthy safe New Year!
I am off to the gym to get in my last run for the year on the treadmill. It is cold today!
Rose you so sound like me when we go to Disney.....I want to do it all and feel like we need to have every moment planned out to fit it all in. I am really going to try and NOT plan out our May trip. We are even gap talking about not doing the dinning plan so we don't have meals scheduled!!! Not sure if I can give in that much... Hahaha
QOTD Jan 1, 2013 (very weird to type that!)
1. We didn't do formal intros because I wanted to hit the ground running. Give us a quick intro and tell us something fun about yourself!
2. Don't forget your positive about yourself for the day.
If you haven't had a chance yet, pm your starting weight and goal in the next day or so.
This is how it should look:
starting weight 150; goal 5 pounds
Maintainers: indicate your goal range (+/- 4 pounds) and how many weeks you would like to maintain along with your target weight.
QOTD Jan 1st
Hi I'm Kristin, 38 years old, married with a daughter that's 2 years old. I work full time as an accounting and IT manager. I've always been on the solid side and really wish I could back to my 'wedding weight', but that was 8 years ago. Something fun about me, I love to crunch numbers! Ok, probably not fun to most, but I love it!
I did 20 minutes on the treadmill today after a bit of a hiatus. Do any of you get that funny feeling in your throat when you run outside when it's cold? Um yeah, that happen to me a half a mile into it today and I was in my basement! Eesshhh.
I don't do well in the cold air. I have to cover up my face or I cough and wheeze afterwards. It helps if you put something over your face so that the air you are breathing is warmer and not so dry. Great job on the exercise!QOTD Jan 1st

I made gf cinnamon rolls and they were so good! I think making a conscious decision to eat what you want is not a bad thing. Just jump back on the wagon!Happy First Day of your Healthy 2013! I started the year making a very bad decision But it was a very conscious decision so I knew the consequences and decided I was just going to do it. I ate 3 cinnamon rolls (the Pillsbury canned ones). I knew that it would make me pretty sick and it has but they were good!
I am trying to get a lot of the things done today that I should have been doing all week-- finish laundry and clean house. I am taking down most of the Christmas decor but may wait until next weekend to take down the tree. It makes me very happy to see it all lit up and it is a very gray and dreary day here so it really looks pretty lighting up the family room.
Off to send my PM!
You're not boring Buffy!1. I'm Buffy, or you can shorten my user name to BAMB. I'm 39 and a NAHM (never at home mom) of 4. Married to DH for 20 years this coming April. I'm a co-moderator of the Creative Community here on the DIS. We scrap, sew, and cook there.
Something fun about myself............. gosh I have no idea........ I'm really boring!! LOL
2. Positive - even though my kids are teens and tweens, I'm still the "cool mom" and they still hug me in public and aren't embarrassed to be seen with me.
Broken record--Hang in there Jen! I am rooting for you!Hi!!!! I'm Jen, wife and mom to 3 (15, 13, 12). I have been a nurse for 20 years mainly in a trauma center but took manager position in clinical informatics earlier in the year. Live in corn fields of IL...was really excited about starting out 2013 with a new outlook however have hit a small snag so am going to have to reset....
Something positive about me: I am good at finding that silver lining in situations...
Welcome! If I am understanding you correctly, I am sorry for the loss of your son. I am up for a positive 2013 as well!My goals for 2013 is to lose 75 lbs. This is a big goal but doable. I figure 2 lbs a week is average being that this is a little less than that it is doable. I will slip and I will recover. I would like to be down to a size 6. I would like it to be lower since I am only 5 feet tall but I want to succeed.
I know I will have to change my eating habits but with the help of WW and some other programs, I have learned alot about healthy eating over the past year. I will also be starting a realistic exercise goal of 5 times per week. I don't put minutes as I know I can work out for 15 minutes (if that is all I have time for) and I can get an intense workout with interval training method. I have a gym at work so no excuses. Just need to plan.
I look forward to sharing this journey with all of you!!

Great job on staying under your calorie count! You will have lots of fun at the Princess!1. My name is Liz. I'm 26, married to my wonderful DH and we have a 3.5 DS. I'm a pharmacist for a large grocery chain. I started running in April last year and will be running the princess half at the end of February. i also just got a personal trainer. 2. I stayed under my calorie count for NYE
You can definitely do it!Happy New Year!
1. I'm 38 (I swear I almost typed 'I'm 35" and I have no idea why. lol). I've been married for 10 years and have two kiddos - 10 & 2. I work in HR for a cellular communications company. We live in Colorado.
2. I know I can do this! I've done it before, I just need to do it again and for longer this time!!
Welcome!I am 35 yrs old and have 2 children- 4 and 2. The 2 yr old is giving me a run for my money. Started running in the summer but haven't been running since the cold weather arrived (lbs. are coming back) . I lost 30 ills after I had my daughter so I know I can do it if I put my mind to it
Sounds like you had a good night CC!Hello! I actually stayed up past midnight last night! I can't tell you the last time that happened. I was at a friend's house and we one of those word association type games. I couldn't stop It was a good way to wind down before going back to work tomorrow. I spent the night and got home just before my parents wanted to eat lunch.
I ate okay last night. Everything was GF, but there was solid cross-contamination risk. I made GF champagne cupcakes. They were well-loved.
I'll be back later with some replies.
Welcome! Please count me in for this. My goal for January is 5 lbs!
Welcome! Sounds like your whole family is ready for some healthy living!I'm hoping to find some support here I'm the heaviest I have ever been by quite a bit. I have 50lbs that have to come off. I swore last new years eve that this is it, well one year later and I'm heavier ugh. Everyone seems great here and I'm ready to really commit to this. I'm a full time student, and run a small business. We have 5 great kids, 4 still living at home. I want the whole family to eat better. DH is totally on board and is going to be my get-to-the-gym motivator!
Glad to have you here Laura and glad you found a job!Hi Everybody -
I failed at the last Biggest Loser challenge and find myself entering 2013 at the heaviest I've been in a long time.
I had been out of work for quite a while and had a really hard time with establishing a routine and with mindless eating (being at home all day with 24/7 access to my kitchen, etc.). I started a new job at the end of the summer, so I am hoping that I can establish a good eating routine.
My goal for this month is 8lbs - I know that is a little ambitious, but I'm up for the challenge.
Looking forward to getting healthy with all of you.
- Laura
Sounds like you are ready to go!Happy new year! I love reading everyone's stories- so motivating! I think I will challenge myself to exercise EVERYDAY in January. Our weather here in the snowbelt is crappy in January so it's not an easy task but I really want to try! I shopped yesterday so the house is stocked with healthy foods, I'll be making a low cal vegan minestrone for lunch today. Good luck to all!
A year's maternity leave is awesome!QOTD:
My name is Amy, I'm 28 and have been married for 5 years, together for 10. We have 3 beautiful daughters, 5, almost 2 and 3 months. I work for health Canada but am currently on maternity leave for a year.
Positive for the day: I am a good writer.
I am loving reading everyone else's intros
very exciting about your upcoming trip Jill! Where are you staying?DH and I just decided yesterday to book a January trip (instead of our original June trip). We got the stay, play, dine offer and agreed to not do the table service plan. We want to just go with the flow and let the kids eat when ever and wherever they want. Last time we did ADRs, we were so full and we were hardly ever hungry at our ADR time. I am trying to be more flexible this trip. It's hard for a planner who has to leave in 24 days!!
Jill
Great job on not using food as a coping method! It's really hard sometimes.Hi! My name is Jana. I'm 42 years old and live by myself with a cat. I work as a Clinical Manager for a foster care agency in Illinois. I don't have any kids but have nieces and nephews who I love dearly!
My positive thing is that I am ending a very unhealthy relationship and avoiding using food as a coping skill!
Thanks for sharing. It truly is no fun to deal with permanent stuff, but I know you will feel better when you kick some of those curbs to the curb. We are glad to have you!Time for my official hello. I am going to lay in on the line, may be a bit longer, but it makes me feel more accountable.
I am a 46 year old SAHDM (stay at home disabled mom).
I am married to the most understanding wonderful man I know. We have been married almost 22 years. We have two children a daughter 20 and a son 17. Contrary to some, we actually have a great life and we don't try to take anything for granted. I usually try to not post too much about them, but it is hard since I love them all to pieces.
About my disability. I have been sick for around 15 years and have been on disability for around 10. In a period of a few years I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, lost my thyroid, had my gallbladder removed, was in a serious car accident that caused major injuries in my neck and lower back. I never really thought I was sick as I was but I finally broke down and cried when my disability (permanent) went through in less than 3 months and it was no questions asked. Only people who are dying usually get approved that quick. BAM! It hit me.
So over those years I have slowly settled into my diagnoses and became sedentary and fat. I can walk and do yoga, but for now not much more. As the weight crept on my ability to take care of the family declined.
My goal is to get back to my "healthy". Over this year I would like to lose the weight the doctor and I agreed was good for me.
I really look forward to being a part of this group and hope that I can be optimistic and helpful for everyone, including myself. Okay, I will shut up now! Diane.
Great positive!Forgot my positive: I put the myfitness pal app on my phone. The first and only one on the phone. Not too savvy yet. I even added my food for today even though I don't officially start until tomorrow.
Glad to have you Susan!QOTD--December 28, 2012
So since Jan 1 is still a few days off, I want you to start thinking about your goals.
Do you have a goal in mind for January, or even 2013? How did you come up with this goal? Is it based on pounds, inches, clothing size, or something else?
For the purpose of this challenge we are measuring pounds, so how does your goal fit in with the challenge?
Don't think so much about HOW you are going to achieve it yet, but think in terms of what is realistic and start breaking it down into smaller parts.
Share with the group what you would like about your goal.
Just a quick check in before I go to work--I would like to lose 10 pounds this month. I know-- a hefty goal but I really need to get back into my pants!
I'll get caught up later--this kind of took me off guard today-- I was expecting this Friday to be the start.

2. Don't forget your positive about yourself for the day.
Hey cclovesdis, have you tried Clinque make up? It works great for a lot of people with skin allergies. Also, their yellow soap is great for washing " itchy " areas. Good luck
Good luck with the allergy testing CC.
I'm planning on being gluten-free in January. Every time I complain about being tired or my skin breaking out (which is all the time for both), I'm told that it's because I have too much gluten in my diet. So I'm just going to cut it out for a month, see if there are any changes, and if there are I'll keep going with it.
Count me in however I am going to have tone creative with my goals....tripped going up some stairs Friday and broke my arm
Will have to have surgery this week on it

I Zumba!! It's so much fun and a killer workout!
Never Give Up!!!!
1. I hope to restart C25K this month but I set my minutes goal to a modest 500 because I still can't take a deep breath without coughing.
Long term goal is the WISH Princess 1/2 in 2014. That is my primary long term fitness goal. I also don't have a set time for that, I just want to finish upright and not get swept.
ETA: I also plan to do 30 day shred and or yoga on my days off of C25K.
2. I am worth the effort.
I was also diagnosed with celiac disease, and since going gluten-free, I feel like a completely different person and have so much more energy.
New friends.....so nice to have you all here. This is a WONDERFUL way to start the first day of the rest of your (healthier) life!
Ok third try
Has anyone used a fitbit or body media monitor? Want to get one but not sure which....
Count me in! I am really looking forward to 2013 and moving closer to my long-term healthy goals.
After a excessively crappy 2011, I was VERY happy with 2012. I
1. lost 115 pounds
2. dropped A1c from 7.3 to 5.5
3. dropped cholesterol from 207 to 172
4. eliminated back pain despite 2 herniated discs
5. now look forward to exercise - walking, Zumba, swimming and even the elliptical
6. went from size 4x/30-32 to size XL-1X/14-16
7. am no longer morbidly obese
8. no longer dread going to the doctor
9. enjoy just plain leaving the house again
I'm looking forward to moving to Onederland in 2013 and from "obese" to "overweight" and even to "normal".
For January, I'd love to lose 8 pounds and get away from the 200's for-evah! I think that might be a bit ambitious, so I'm going to shoot for 5.
