What will Disney let you pay for next?

I think Disney will eventually apply a service fee to subsidize on-property transportation for resort guests. I can see this happening in 2023. This charge will be applied to the room rates.

I can definitely see an increase in resort shopping and dining prices and then a "discount" for resort guests to hide the non guest fee increase.

I could see a fee for some transportation, but not all. After all, you are forced to use Disney transportation to get from the TTC to the Magic Kingdom. But maybe a charge for some "optional" transportation like the Skyliner. Tokyo Disney has a fee for their monorail, but it's connected to the city transportation system. I can see Disney having some transportation option between the Brightlight train (if it really ever gets built, I'm not holding my breath) and the parks or hotels. As a note, there was also some law in Tokyo that all transportation has to have a fee (I think?) and that was one of the reasons they never built a railroad around the Disneyland park.

I agree about resort fees. Maybe a fee to use Disney's internet in the hotels and the parks, which would be BS because you need it to connect to their app. But in their future I see more upcharged events and services. For example, more after or before hours events. More VIP viewing areas for fireworks and shows. Exclusive character meet and greets. Maybe some of the smaller pools at the resorts have a extra charge to enter, or you have to be a concierge level guest. If they build any more hotels they will be more DVC or deluxes.

This is probably never going to happen, but watch them one day decide to go "retro" and make people buy ticket books to go on all the rides, like how Disneyland and WDW used to operate. However, I doubt that would ever be equal inflation wise to what the prices used to be. A Disneyland entry ticket on opening day in 1955 was $1, which is equal to $10.10 today. The ride tickets were $.10-$.35, equal to $1.02-$3.57. No, I bet if they went back to the system today it would still be $100 to enter the park and another $5-$20 to get on each ride.

I can see there being a box that you check when you reserve a room at a Disney hotel.

It'll ask if you have a car. If you check Yes you pay a parking fee. If you check No you pay a transportation fee that covers all modes of transportation to the park. You'll have to verify that you paid the fee when you go to board the bus or Skyliner by going through a checkpoint. If it says you didn't pay the fee, you won't be allowed to board.

When WDW opened, you DID have to pay a transportation fee to use the monorail or fairy (can't remember the value of that one). You provided that ticket when you went through the gates after buying your ticket book at the transportation center. When you arrived at the Magic Kingdom, you had to give another entry ticket (believe it was $5.00) to go through the turnstile, plus the ride tickets. Those in the military could buy a special ticket book. The ride tickets were green and had a key imprinted on them. You could use that ticket for any ride, A through E. We used to use them for D & E attractions and buy the lesser attraction tickets at the booths throughout the Magic Kingdom. I still have a few of them around here somewhere.

Disney raised the rates at POP after the Skyliner opened.

Resort fees at many resorts list park transportation as one of the included benefits.

Disney is already changing restaurants to price fixed, sometimes all you care to eat. That gets rid of guests who just want to experience a restaurant, ordering dessert only.

Just maybe they'll open a strictly Disney themed tatoo parlor at Disney Springs--

An "as seen on tv store" and a "but wait" store next door, LOL .. (Disney products only)

Oh am sure they know very well (from experience) how to literally nickel and dime everyone!! By golly they'll get their monies one way or the other.. where's that turnip? 🏧

A continuation of charging for building or area specific Standard resort room requests, beyond just a preferred room or a view room, particularly in the more themed resorts, such as the values. Like what they do at Art of Animation now-----take a random room, pay less than if you specify that you want Cars as opposed to Lion King. Right now, for instance, one can request a room in the 50s or 90s at Pop, for free. Or one can request a room in the Jazz section at ASM, etc. I can definitely see them adding a higher price category for choosing your section rather than being given a random room.

Once Genie+ and Lightning Lane has become a wild success, Disney will be motivated to have more microtransactions:

Access to the bathrooms
Charge to take the trams from the parking lots (staff will start parking cars from the back to the front)
A concierge service to book hard to obtain ADRs
Hotel rooms will only include the room, want bedsheets? Pillows? towels? Rental fee for those.
Pay to watch the TV in the hotel room
Pay to use the resort pools
Pay per ride like the old days, but now with dynamic pricing! Long standby line at 7DMT? Price goes up along with the price for a Lightning Lane pass!
Charge for onsite transportation
Digital badges for riding rides or paying for one of these microtransactions, show off how many times you have paid for Genie+! 100 times for Silver, 500 times for Gold, 1000 for the exclusive Platinum digital badge!
Pay for fireworks / shows, just like the after hours parties if you dont have a wristband you will be escorted out
Pay for the day shows like Indiana Jones, Frozen Ever After, Finding Nemo, etc - the best seats cost more
Standby seat, rent a portable chair so you can sit in the standby line
Pay for the best seat / area for the Cavalcade or Parades
Pay for drinking water
Pay to park at the parks even if you are staying onsite and paying to park there
Happy Birthday buttons, etc now cost $5 each
Park hopper early access, pay extra to park hop before 2pm
Upgraded Genie+ where you get to pick where you sit on the ride, no more requesting front row or back row for your favorite rollercoaster. You need to pay for that right

Lol, I could do this all night. Maybe I should email my ideas to Bob and Josh! ;)

Make sure you get a contract so you get paid. But not a Scarlett Johannsen contract that you have to sue to get your money kind of contract. :D

I wouldn't be surprised if the Deluxe and maybe even the Moderates start to charge Resort Fees. Disney is pretty much the only major hotel owner that is not charging a resort fee. The same thing happened with the Daily Parking Fee. Disney was the last major hotel group to charge one. By the way, not everyone pays for parking. Groups and Conventions may get parking for free depending on their contract terms. I would imagine the same will happen if a resort fee is ever added. I also have avoided parking fees at resorts as soon as the valets or bell hops pull my scooter out of my trunk.

I can't see Disney starting to charge for Internet access since they really are requiring everyone to use Genie+ and MDE.

You used to pay for transportation in your park ticket. I remember seeing the disclaimer on the back of tickets from the 80's and maybe as far as the early 1990's that said a portion of the ticket went to Disney Transportation for use of their transportation. That went away when Florida law was changed where you didn't have to break down the printed price of admission and tax on the ticket itself. This was partially due to fact that non profits do not have to charge sales tax on their tickets to museums, etc. It kept everyone on a level playing field.

I can see them jacking up the costs for Fuel Rods even more. But remember, you can always buy them on Amazon before you go. Disney Food Blog tells all their listeners nearly every couple of weeks to buy cell phone battery chargers before you leave home..

Look, it's like this. If you don't like it, don't pay it. If everyone would do that then there would be less of a chance the charges would be around in the future. If you are thinking "But I want to stay 'on property'", then you pay a resort fee. It's not going to change until people stop paying for every little thing and stop staying at Disney.
