What to do on travel/ non-park days

we're going to DLR for the first time this February. Our flight arrives early in the morning and we don't leave until the evening, but we're not going to the parks on our travel days. We're staying at BWPPI, but won't have a car. Any suggestions of things to do on our travel days? We have brunch reservations at Storyteller's on our last day. We were planning on going to DTD in the evening for dinner and to walk around, but any other suggestions?

We went whale watching the morning we arrived (a non-park day for us) and loved it. Took up just the right amount of time and we got to witness a spectacular sight of pod of Orcas coming across a hug pod of dolphins (you can read/see it here). Would only be a 20-30 Uber ride to the tour dock from DLR (we stayed at Castle Inn and Suites).

We did the Void that trip as well and it was fantastic. They have since added a Wreck It Ralph version along with the Star Wars themed one. But, that would only occupy an hour or so.

Without a car it's a little more complicated, but there is a lot to do near DLR and lot's of good/great places to eat as well.

We had lunch at Goofy's Kitchen the day we arrived and breakfast at PCH Grill the day we left. It was nice to do character meals without wasting park time.

We usually do the Outlets of Orange on one of our non park days (with the ART bus) but shopping in America is a major highlight for us Germans...

Other than that, enjoying DTD the first evening is great as well! Strolling around, do some shopping and experience some early Disney feeling... I really like to just sit down that first evening and enjoy the moment... just being “in” DL...

Wife and I hit up the cigar lunge in Fullerton which burns a couple of hours; not exactly a family event however.

We have also done the la brea tar pits, the science center which still has the king tut exhibit I believe, but not sure for how much longer, and the USS Iowa battleship tour. All of these are a bit of a drive from Disneyland though.

We do park time on travel days if we arrive more than two hours before the parks close. Otherwise, we get dinner, go back to our hotel, play cards, lay out clothes for the next day, watch TV and relax. We make sure we are there for rope drop every day.

It's looking like we will have the same situation on our arrival day. We are planning on the Void and Trader Sam's--unless something more fabulous comes up.

Amtrak (or the commuter line Metrolink) will get you from the Anaheim station to LA Union Station in about 45 minutes. From there you can take the Red Line subway to Hollywood, Universal Studios, or downtown LA. I believe there are sightseeing buses from the Hollywood area. Lakers and Clippers (basketball) and Kings (hockey) play at Staples Center, which is downtown.
