What to Do In Milwaukee?

I am travelling to Milwaukee on business the end of this month. I am flying in Friday morning and leaving Sunday morning.

Milwaukee (and for that matter Wisconsin) is a state I have not yet set foot in so I am looking for recommendations of things to do when in town. NOTE: I do not drink so anything beer/alcohol related likely won't be up my alley. Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions from the DIS community!

Even if you don't drink, a brewery(microbrewery) tour might be interesting. The Sprecher tour is nice with free sodas...the root beer is amazing. There is a Public Museum and The Harley Davidson Museum too. There might still be Milwaukee Brewers baseball going on. Enjoy some frozen custard and burgers at Kopps!

We visited Milwaukee three weeks ago for the first time. We enjoyed driving the Lake Drive--it's nice right along the lake front and at one beach they have lots of volleyball going on and food trucks parked there. But also perched above overlooking the lake are these gorgeous homes--almost mansion size. Some of them have grand staircases down to the beach area.
There is also a Riverwalk downtown with shops and restaurants; it's okay for an hours diversion or so.
The rest of our time was spent touring the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee which is a compact campus.

What kinds of things do you like?

The Brewers are at home the last weekend in Sept, so that might be fun.

Milwaukee has so much to offer:
Milwaukee County Zoo
Milwaukee Public Museum
Discovery World
Milwaukee Art Museum
Milwaukee Public Market

Milwaukee is the City of Festivals. There is one at the end of Sept. Live music and lots of food!

I was there recently..I took my son to see Wrigley field in Chicago, and the next day we drove to Milwaukee too see The Brewers play .. great time .. very nice place and people..had a great time

Eat! I love to partake in the culinary delights of Wisconsin...

cheese curds (must get fresh, not refrigerated)
kringle (a specialty of Racine, a bit south of Milwaukee)
more cheese (hard pack, beer cheese, fresh mozzarella, too many to mention)
ice cream, or frozen custard (it is the dairy state, after all!)
bratwurst (not my cup of tea, but very popular)
beer (I'm with you on not being a beer drinker, but a brewery tour such as Miller or the aforementioned Sprecher can be fun regardless)

Great suggestions already - I'd just add that there's a large casino near downtown Milwaukee, Potawatomi, with bingo that can be good waste of time and money; good food, and live entertainment some nights too.

What specific weekend?

On September 22/23; there is a huge event- Open Doors Milwaukee.

A great look at the city! Seriously, my DH and I do not miss this.

The following weekend is a film festival.

Things we like to do in MKE are:
  1. Pabst Mansion
  2. Art museum
  3. Milwaukee public Museum
  4. Harley Museum
  5. Distillery tour/brewery tour( Great Lakes Distillery and lakefront brewery)
  6. Hang out in Cedarburg
  7. Milwaukee Domes
It is a great city! Have fun!

All great ideas, would definitely suggest the zoo if it's a nice day. If you have a car you might like driving out to Holy Hiil shrine, by the end of the month you should see some early fall color. Plan on going to a Brewers game if they are in town, if not you could check out the stadium a little by visiting Friday's front row for lunch or dinner. Don't miss a stop at a custard stand Kopps(burgers and flavor of the day custard) and Giles(best sundaes) are both good options. The parks along the lakefront are really pretty too. Enjoy our beautiful city!
