Visiting Japan & TDL in December worth it?

We have been considering visiting Tokyo, the TDL, and Kyoto for quite sometime now. Unfortunately, our plans have been put on hold for one reason or another.

We love the Holidays, and visiting the Disneyland Resort in California during that time. Having said that.... How big are the Holidays at TDL? Do they go all out putting up decorations, hosting parties, specially themed meet and greets, as well as adding holiday overlays to some of the rides and shows? What are the crowds like the first and second weeks in December? What about the weather? Will rides and shows be shut down if it rains/snows? Any recurring December ride closures?

Thank y'all in advance for the help and tips.

I can't speak to the recurring closures or crowd levels, but I went to TDR once in December and it is probably my favorite time of year to go. If you love the holidays, you will definitely enjoy your time at TDR. The decorations, the special menus, the merchandise - everything was amazing, and I would go again in a heartbeat.

The resort will be decorated for Christmas for sure. There will be shows, menu items, and special merchandise. As for special parties, there is usually one for New Years but nothing else and you have to win to buy the tickets or be a holder of a certain type of credit card (thats how it usually works).

The weather is pretty mild in December, so there shouldn't be too much snow, if any really. Rides usually do not shut down, but if it is cold there will be almost no one on the ride. Such as Splash Mountain.

February is a month you have to worry about snow, this past year Tokyo was hit with a huge snowstorm and made for a crazy time at the parks.

As for ride closures, just keep an eye on the official website.

It looks like you would be planning on coming earlier in December but just a little heads up if you come closer to Christmas/New Year's time. The Christmas time promotion ends on December 25th. You go to parks on the 26th and most everything is down and gone.
