Twitter, now "X"

I have a lot of lists on X and have people/companies on those lists, so I can go to the list and see what they've tweeted if I want.

Some of my favorite Twitter feeds:

Super 70s Sports (humor/nostalgia):

https://twitter.com/Super70sSports

Second World War Tweets ("real time" tweets from that particular day in a particular year in WWII, currently in 1939):

https://twitter.com/RealTimeWWII

Dad Jokes (self-explanatory):

Serious Eats (cooking):

Retro Tech Dreams (vintage computer gear):

I had an account for a short while, but it was just another thing I didn't use so I cancelled it.

I've got specifics that I follow.

Geology and history museums!

I also follow WashU and this exciting research on cancer epigenomes was posted today.

“This study has generated rich information for the research community."

Scientists have delved into the mysteries of the epigenome in 11 cancer types, shedding light on its crucial role in cancer formation, growth, and spread.

I've never had an account and won't use my other account info to get access. They've severely limited what can be seen without logging in, so I haven't seen any of the comments attached to a Tweet in a while as a result.

I used to occasionally check some Twitter posts for government/emergency information, but that's pretty much unusable now without logging in.

It is the primary source of news/updates for some of the sports I follow, so I use it for that. I am on it quite a lot, but I am not very active as far as posting/commenting.

Not had a twitter account and would never get one, no interest in the nonsense I read about being posted there. They are all just chat rooms selling ads. Every 6 months or so another product comes along that becomes popular. Seems like everything Musk has done was an effort to run it into the ground. Like a textbook case of how NOT to run a business. Why he would want to destroy it baffles me. Reminds me somewhat of that guy who took over Sears with no retail experience and then promptly had it go bankrupt since the real value was the real estate not the actual stores.

It seems like that is the case for a lot of news. I have found most of the time a headline hits twitter first.

I still call it Twitter even though I know it's X. I have an account that pretty much remained dormant until about a year ago. Twitter/X is the top social media outlet used by high school athletes with college recruitment goals. My younger one had to set up an account last year while still in middle school to get a feel for things. She posts all of her Tweets (or whatever it's called on X), but I use mine to monitor hers as well as keep an eye out for what others are posting...like frequency, content (just tournament stuff, or is it practices, camps, etc.?), who everyone is tagging, and profile formatting trends.

I use Twitter to follow artists and content creators I like but I use it way less nowadays. Twitter has gotten significantly worse functionality and quality wise since Elon took control.

Also, I'm never calling it X. That name is idiotic.

I had to have a Twitter account for work because Twitter was (and still is) the primary place Police Departments, Fire Departments, and Government Agencies put out information.
When I was working, I would check it every 10 minutes during the work day. Now that I am retired, I check it once a day just to see if I have any messages. Facebook is my primary Social Media site.
My wife lives on Twitter, but is trying to transition to Bluesky. Problem is, there just isn't much content there. She got on Facebook over a decade ago and closed her account in 3 days because she found Facebook creepy.
