Hi everyone, this is my first posting for over a year, SORRY!!
although I have been visiting the posts all the time.

I have got a quote from Travel city direct travelling 16th June 2003, they quoted £4,550 for 6 adults and 1 child, is this good, and if so are travel city direct a reputable company or am I better off booking with a high street travel agent?

Thanks for any help

Hi there,

Welcome to the Dis!

It's better if you give us a little more information i.e. villa or hotel (and which one), no. of cars i.e. 8 str minivan or 2 cars, and if the flights are direct/indirect or scheduled/chartered. To be honest though it seems a bit expensive to me!!!

We've just booked for November this year and the flights are £293 adult, £182 child (scheduled indirect). You can get a 4 bed villa anything from £400 - £600 per week plus pool heat of approx £70.00 per week. 8 str minivan hire is approx £230 per week or £154 per week for an intermediate car, these are fully inclusive prices.

Based on the above figures with an 8str minivan and paying approx £570 for a 4 bed villa inc pool heat, you're looking at £3540!!! Although you may pay a little more for flights you certainly won't be looking at £3000 more!!!!

If you need anymore advice, please don't hesitate to shout.

Lisa

Sorry just meant to say that those prices are booking it DIY. Please don't be put off doing it that way as you'll probably save a fortune and you'll get lots of help along the way from everyone here on the boards.

Just keep posting those questions
Love Lisa :D

Sorry, forgot to mention that this price is for direct flights, not sure if they are charter or scheduled, a 4 bedroomed villa with pool and a 7 seater minivan.

I did look into booking direct as I know a lot of you have and saved money but I couldnt get prices for flights because our departure date is more than 335 days.

This meant I couldnt really get a true idea of prices!!

I would be grateful if anyone has any ideas or ways of getting around this, please please tell me!!

Gawd, just noticed that you;ve been quoted £4500, I misread and thought you'd been quoted £6500 that's why my figures wouldn't have added up- sorry!!!

I'll get my coat...... ;)

Lisa

Rachellay,

Although you can't book flights only more than 335 days before departure you will be able to book fly drives.

Travel City are a reputable company and are usually quite reasonably priced, but I would shop around - there are a lot of deals out there, especially as you are not travelling during school holidays.

Did your quote include the full packagae of Car insurance?

I had a quick look on the Virgin holidays website for flydrives with no insurance it comes to a little over £3000. So if you add a villa and insurance, the price would probably match what you have been quoted, but you have the bonus of a scheduled flight.

Lisa

just reading your thread can you tell me who you are flying with at such low costs, we are going in October (scheduled indirect) and our prices are £450 adult and £200 child £120 baby.

Sharon,

We're going in November but I would imagine October will be more expensive because of half term. I've got my quotes from www.opodo.co.uk, www.ebookers.co.uk and www.expedia.co.uk.

They have a few flights and the Opodo flights are working out £1344 for 3 adults & 3 children flying from Manchester via Philly with US Airways. They also had on offer Delta, United, Continental and BA although this was about £700 more but it was direct.

I've found Choice Air to be cheapest for minivan hire (again) at £211 per week fully inclusive. If anyone knows any other sites I can look please let me know.

Other decent quotes from the TAs off Teletext came from

0161 790 2345 American travel specialist

0870 709 3051 Worldwide Journeys gave me a quote of £3050 for all of us flying direct with Virgin, 3 bed villa with pool heat & 7 str minivan.

0870 8890312 Broadway Travel 25/10/02 2 wks, 3 ad, 3 ch, Hampton Lakes villa, 7 str van direct with JMC £2645

01268 464914 Affordable Florida November £2610 US Airways via Philly, 7str, villa on arrival.

Our only problem is choosing when we're going as we've already booked for October with Virgin but I don't think my DH can get the time off work now so we're ringing around to see about November instead.

Good luck

Lisa

Thanks for the information Lisa I will have a look anyway, but like you said it's probably half term which is bumping the cost up cheers anyway.....

Might see you. We hope to be back out at our place at Hampton Lakes late September/early October.

Hi

We are also planning our trip next June, leaving 28th hopefully.
I have found that Travel City Direct did not quote the cheapest price. I have friends just returned for WDW with Travel City and they were not happy with the villa. They said it was rather old and shabby. The flights were ok though.
Booking everthing independantly seems to be a better option. We have booked the villa direct. The cheapest flights seem to be with United Vacations or Virgin. We will also be booking our car hire seperately - still shopping around for that.

When we booked our holiday last December we had quotes off of Airtours and Travel City Direct. For the same dates in October and the same hotel for 2 adults and 1 child Travel City Direct were £600 cheaper - guess who we booked with? That £600 has bought us 3 x 10 day disney passes.

Scottish_Maleficent,
I have friends just returned for WDW with Travel City and they were not happy with the villa. They said it was rather old and shabby.

Do you know the development that they stayed in or could you find out? I am planning my next trip in November and although we will most likely go back to Emerald Island Resort, if we cannot get in then I would love to be forewarned where not to stay.
Thanks,
Ben

We are doing a fly-drive with TCD in September, 5 adults x [£414] 2 kids x [£396], from Glasgow. They are taking £716 for an 8 seater Mini-Van - any driver + all insurances. We paid £470 for the same vehicle last year with Choice Air!!

Last year we were due out on 15th Sept with Airtours - it was cancelled after the Twin Towers horror - we got a full refund.
I managed to re-book the whole holiday myself via BA/Choice Air for the following w/end 22/9 - going out of Gatwick.
We only live 4 miles from Glasgow Airport, so the extra trek to Gatwick was worthwhile last year - it was that or no Disney. No way!!

This year we don't want the hassle of the extra 6 hours going via Gatwick - the downside is that TCD, [and all other charters], never drop their prices out of Glasgow. With so few seats they don't have to.

So, we get direct flights with higher priced child prices + very high car hire prices - or we go via Manchester or London.
The extra cost is measured against the convenience for our group. Convenience wins this year. Now, if only TCD could get a Jumbo service up and running at Glasgow!!
