I don't think I've had enough coffee today. I can't get the TIW math to come out right. I know that DVC/AP discount is 10%(but not on wine)

Let say, We went to Grand Floridian Café for Dinner :
Shrimp Cocktail $12.99
Seasonal Salad $5.99 x 2 = $11.98
New York Strip Steak $29.99
Pan Sear Chicken Breast $18.99
Glass of Wine $7.50 x 2 = $15.00(guessing)
total Bill $88.95 - Please for my sanity do the math for me. TIA:teacher:

Too much snow is clogging my brain :rotfl2:

Try this:
$88.95 Full Bill
$73.95 Full Bill without $15 wine

Discount:
AP Savings is 10% of $73.95 or $7.40
TiW savings is 20% of $88.95 or $17.70

Your total bill with 18% tip would be:
AP = $88.95 - $7.40 = $80.65 + $14.52 Tip = $95.17
TiW = $88.95 - $17.70 = $71.25 + $12.83 Tip = $84.08

So TiW would save you $11.09 more than the AP discount on this particular meal. :teacher:

I think alcohol is included in the 20% discount with TIW!

it is, it was calculated in the cost break down. Since the AP doesn't cover alcohol it wasn't figured in with that discount but was figured in with the TIW. TIW is an awesome discount card and something that every AP, DVC or FL resident should really consider having

Shouldn't we be tipping on the full amount? So the tip would be the same in either scenario.... No?

No, Not the way TiW works. If you would like to increase the tip the TiW automatically adds to the check you are free to do that.

I thought the TiW auto-tip was calculated from the pre-discounted amount, has that changed? Cheshire Figment's example a few months ago, here. I'm also assuming that FL still has 6.5% sales tax.

In the OP's scenario ($88.95, $15 of which is alcohol):
TiW = 71.16 (20% off 88.95) + 4.63 (tax on 71.16) + 16.01 (18% auto-tip on 88.95) = $91.80
AP = 66.56 (10% off 73.95) + 15 (no alco discount) + 5.30 (tax on 81.56) + (tip) = $102.87 (if 18% tip)
No discounts = 88.95 + 5.78 (tax on 88.95) + (tip) = $110.74 (if 18% tip)

marshwiggle,

on your statement you have :
AP = 66.56 (10% off 73.95) + 15 (no alco discount) + 5.30 (tax on 81.56) + (tip) = $102.87 (if 18% tip)

Where did the $73.95 come from or did you mean $88.95??

Do you think someone will come up with an app for the TIW??. This would be great, put in where you dine and what you order. something along the lines like see ya reel soon program but shorter.

The $73.95 is the amount that the AP discount is applicable to. It's $88.95 - $15. AP discounts don't apply to alcohol.

73.95 = thenon-alcohol subtotal, next addend was $15 for wine (I was going by your statement that AP discount doesn't include alcohol)

When we were there in October and November, with a TiW card, the tip was calculated on the discounted total NOT the original total.

it's on the original amount. When a server swipes the TIW card it automatically discounts the bill and adds the grat.
