Time for breakfast at Makahiki

Am tempted to take the very first reservation as, from experience, I know we’ll be up early and it will allow us to request a table outside. But I’m wondering how long we would need to wait until Aunty or any characters come out? If longer than 20 mins or so I worry my kids will have gone through their breakfast already and their ability to sit tight and wait (while behaving!) might be limited.

Any recommendations?

My recommendation is to do the dinner. If you're going to spend that much for a character meal, you might as well get crab and prime-rib. And even at $50 something, it's worth it. The food is really good. Just like a buffet you find on Waikiki, but it costs a bit more....but you get characters!

you get characters!

At character dinners, you're greeted by and take pictures with Donald, and roaming characters are Stitch, Chip & Dale, and/or Goofy.

At character breakfasts, you're greeted by and take pictures with Mickey, with Minnie and Pluto roaming around the tables for pictures.

Breakfast is with Auntie who plays the ukulele and sings, character dinners are with Uncle who tells stories about the Menehune.

If meeting specific characters is more important than the food offerings or price, choosing breakfast vs. dinner matters.

To the OP, I'm an early riser although I've never booked the first reservation at Makahiki. From what I've seen walking the path between the lazy river and Makahiki's outdoor dining area in the morning, the characters do seem to get an early start. Mickey is almost always out early when the restaurant opens up.

To add, while sitting outside by the koi pond is very nice and my preference as well, note that Auntie's "show" takes place mostly inside. Auntie does have bits where she invites the kids around and they get to perform and play with props, and follow her in a line around the restaurant. This is the same with Uncle at character dinners.

I think a seven am reservation is perfect....at least it was for us last week on our first morning here. Some members of my family were running late so it was probably about 7:10 before we were all there. We were escorted to the line for photos with Mickey. There was just one family already having their pictures taken. I didn't mark the time but within the first few minutes at our table, Minnie came by followed shortly by Goofy. Aunty started songs soon after. A day or so later I heard her beginning the Aloha song a minute or two after 7:30. We liked 7am so much we booked it again for our last full day later this week.

A brief update...as I walked by Makahiki late yesterday morning, Pluto was making his rounds in the restaurant as Lain reported. Perhaps he and Goofy alternate days or shifts?

When we were there (late august) the line for a photo with Mickey was 45 min long- we skipped it and went straight to our table. We were done meeting all the characters and eating by the time we would have met Mickey

My kids and I couldn't really understand it- we have had so many character meals in the parks and they never took that long

This was for an 8:15 am reservation I think (I remember getting pool chairs and then going to eat). So- I def recommend earlier if you can if you really want to meet Mickey!!! and not wait forever.
