Has any Diser stayed at the Luxor? It looks like it could be a choice on a trip I take. We can't do the Flamingo-my 1st choice because the bride to be stayed their with her ex.

We stayed there 15-20 years ago and enjoyed our room in the pyramid, particularly during a rainstorm. I've heard that Luxor has gotten a bit run-down, but don't know first hand.

DW and I enjoyed a more recent stay at Paris. Had a great view of the Bellagio fountains, dinner at Mon Ami Gabi.

so what do you think about Bally's I have a friend who stays there she says all the perks of Paris since they connected but half the price.

Bally's is really old but somewhat well maintained. The building is the original MGM Grand that opened in 1973.

We stayed at Paris in 2012, and it felt like a typical LV hotel room. I like Rio. I don't know if every room is a "suite" as they advertise, but you can get a fairly large room with the tradeoff of being off The Strip.

I always stay at the South Point. It's about 10 minutes from the Strip, and the rooms are typically cheaper, and BEAUTIFUL. They have a shuttle that runs from the hotel to the Strip (stops at Treasure Island, Aria and Excalibur) that you can take if you don't have a car.

That's way south - mostly a locals casino. I thought of maybe going to the buffet there.

The time I saw the place was on the way to a (regrettable) timeshare presentation at Grandview.

I stay at the Desert Rose, which is located right behind The Tropicana and Hooters. They have 1 and 2 bedrooms. Full kitchens , laundry room, gym, free breakfast everyday. Pool and Jacuzzi.

I love it as I can still walk to the casino's on that end of the strip and still take a bus up and down.

Many of the hotels in center- and south- strip are owned by Caesars -- Paris, Harrah's, Flamingo, Bally's, Planet Hollywood, Rio, etc. And they all share a common frequent-stay (and gamble) program, called TotalRewards:

I was amazed recently when checking the rates that I could get through one of the reward promotions versus the normal online rates. Big discounts! I believe that you can sign up online via the link above. Can't hurt!

The offers you get are highly dependent on whether or not you've gambled there and been tracked. It doesn't take much though, but someone who has gambled a bunch is likely to get better offers, up to free room stays. I'm not necessarily talking about someone who gambles enough that they have to take a second mortgage to cover it. I only gamble lightly, and I can get some pretty good deals, including free nights.

"Total Rewards" was the Harrah's Entertainment players card. Now that Caesars and Harrah's has merged, it's the combined card for all their properties.

Hi Kae

The wife and I have done 5 stays at Luxor and love the resort. Over the last two years Luxor has remodeled their rooms. Key reasons we like it there are...

Good price point ! Our viewpoint is why pay big money for a room when more than likely you will spend most of your time visiting other hotels and venues on the strip.

Quiet ! Luxor is the only resort we found on the south strip that doesn't always feel like Main St. at MK while a parade is going on. This includes the casino.

Last but not least. It's just feaking cool to stay in a pyramid !!! Very hard to find anywhere that the view from your hallway is as good as the one out your window. Plus the " inclanators " are a one of a kind experience in themselves.

Have a great trip !

We stayed in the pyramid rooms about 3-4 years ago, before remodeling, they were a little older & the rooms are slightly smaller being within the shape of the pyramid, but it was cool to do it once to see what it was like within the pyramid.

We stayed twice in the tower rooms in the back of the casino about 2-3 years ago & those were newer, nicer, & much bigger. We would definitely stay there again if it was a good deal.

The casino is also nice and we keep going back to gamble there. You can also walk through to Excalibur & walk across to NY NY & MGM, or take the Luxor monorail to Mandalay Bay.

Thinking of driving from DLand (after DDD race) to Vegas - there will be five (5) of us - suggestions on where to stay? Then talking about driving to see the Grand Canyon one day - Anyone who has done this willing to share their experiences? TIA!

That's what I think!

Don't waste your time at the Southpoint buffet. It's not that great. If you want to head further south the M has a way better buffet than the Southpoint.

my mum stayed there on a recent trip (oct 2013) and was really disappointed. previously she has stayed at Monte Carlo, Treasure Island and Mirage.

I didn't get to see the rooms when I visited her there but i thought the main area of the hotel was cool - but I'm all about the novelty factor.

I was staying at the Palazzo on the same trip, and it was really nice but it wasn't quite the same as a Treasure Island or Venetian or Mirage, something with more of a theme, like i think the Luxor would be.

I want to know where you got that info from? That is COMPLETELY wrong. The MGM has always been in the same place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MGM_Grand_Las_Vegas

Anyways,

The Luxor has been remodeled recently and is nicer than it had been in recent years. Keep in mind, you do lose room space if you get a pyramid room as the windows are slanted but it's not a lot. It is neat to ride in an elevator that goes up sideways though(definitely unnerving if you're drunk the first time you do it though. :rotfl2:)

I didn't read the Wikipedia post, but you are not correct. The original MGM (not the MGM Grand) was in fact, where Bally's is now. There was a fire in 1980 and sometime in 1985, Bally's bought the building and renamed the property. The MGM Grand was moved to the Marina hotel at the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd. and has only been there for the last 20-30 years. I'm from Vegas and went to the MGM Grand during it's opening weekend and stayed at Bally's shortly after it opened as well. Google Bally's or MGM hotel fire and you'll get the correct story.

So I stand corrected. My humble apologies. Haha. I was definitely misinformed by multiple people.
