The (Foodie)Force is Strong with Us...a Feb/Mar 2016 trip! THE END - NEW 9/13 Disneyland TR link!

Wow, they do such a good job with the gardens!! Very detailed and meticulous - it's beautiful!!

Yes, they are so pretty! I'm gonna have to think about going back during F and G again because it's just so pretty! It's so hard to decide between F and G and F and W now, since they both have the food kiosks...but F and G is really just gorgeous!

Yay for using your pretty bag and what a fun opportunity to take it out ;-)

Thanks! I was wondering when I could take it out. I used it for the concert then I used it all Memorial day weekend and it got a lot of compliments! Definitely needs to be a bit bigger for my every day life though!

Yup pirate night AND fireworks!pirate::cool1:

Yay! That's awesome!! The Alaskan ones don't have fireworks so this is nice to hear!

I had this creative idea about making a "football team" logo for an imaginary team called Bay of Fundy Buccaneers with a Mickey Pirate picture - you'll see it on our t-shirts. I'm not sure anyone but my family understood it but I thought it was pretty clever! I used the same picture for magnets that I gave in the FE and even had a tote bag with it (it was a freebie at Vistaprint when I made the magnets, so what the hey!).
I am honored that you're reading my TR, which is, after all, 4 years old :goodvibes!

That's a really good idea about making custom t-shirts! I'll have to think about that idea for our big family trip next year...I think they will all hate me though, LOL. And the FE gifts! That's neat! I may actually participate in an FE this cruise! Since we aren't flying anywhere I can totally spare some luggage space hehe.

I LOVE THIS! :lovestruc

Aww, thanks.

How is this cheesey?! Ya'll are are ADORABLE!

It's like a prom pose, but THANKS!!!

Wow, quite possibly the most perfect photo ever!!:lovestruc

Day 5 Part 2: Eating at F & G!

Since I hadn't had any breakfast because we got to Sunshine Seasons too late for my beloved croissant bread pudding, I had to go to France to try a pastry I have always wanted to get. The last time I was here they were sold out by the time I went in the late afternoon, so I knew they had to have it that morning. I present, Roule Lard et Fromage:

Why do I gravitate towards anything that has the world "lard" in it?
Anyways, this was basically a crusty roll with bacon and cheese, think it was Parmesan cheese, not sure, but get them to heat it up for you and it is just divine! I must be sure to get one on each trip from now on! I ate most of it and DH had a few bites bit he agreed it was good. He is the sort of person who is OK with not having breakfast though, and I tend to get cranky unless I am distracted, so it was mostly mine!

Here's me very happy with my bacon-lard-roll breakfast!

Lumiere and Cogsworth agree - it's been a great day so far and it's not even noon yet!

We stopped at the France F&G booth, Fleur de Lys to check them out.

It wasn't noon yet but it was 5'oclock somewhere and I was so tempted by the pretty pink slushie so I got one...a La Vie en Rose! It was so good! Like a slightly fruitier Grey Goose slushy! We also tried one of their signature items, a Cassoulet au Confit de Canard...pulled duck confit with braised flageolet beans. It was good, and there was definitely bacon in it too. Yum yum!

I don't usually day drink because I either get to tipsy or sleepy, but I think I prepared myself well during Mixology on the cruise so I was ok with this drink!

Continuing on...we passed by some interesting plants and fauna...especially liked the cute little pineapples!

Then we came upon the Hanami kitchen in Japan which is where my favorite frushi is! So we had to get in line for it. It was a very popular booth apparently as the line was quite long!

We ended up getting the Beef Teriyaki Udon noodles and the Frushi! The noodles were really good, and the frushi was light and fruity! It was the perfect meal! DH is not as enamored with frushi as I am so I got to eat two pieces, hehe.

This was such a fun exhibit especially for me! I love all things cute! I used to live in Tokyo as a kid so I remember a lot of these items, some of which are everyday items like dishtowels and doormats, a lot of which I saw in departments stores, toy stores, and even the 7-11 had cute things!

After the 300th time I said "OMG, so cute!" we finally left the exhibit. I thought we were done with Japan, but then I saw the Kabuki Cafe, and remembered one of the best things I ate last year...the soft serve strawberry azuki bean ice cream. So I HAD to get it. I texted a picture of it to Chunkysis and she was sooo jealous! We loved it last year and we found it on a whim!

Here's DH talking about the different plants and stuff that he's going to grow in our garden. Actually he is growing stuff right now. Today we harvested about 12 strawberries! He's also growing cauliflower, lettuces, corn, garlic, tomatoes, basil, all kinds of stuff! I know he loves coming during F & G time!

When we got to China, I saw the Lotus House menu and something caught my eye that sounded so unusual...the Dragon Pearl. It was a drink that had beer, cream, honey, and tapioca pearls. I had never heard of that drink before, but I am always one to try something once so I ordered it.

Looks just like a regular bubble tea, but it had beer in it! So odd! Anyways, upon first drinking it, I was like, huh? Just an odd taste, but the more I drank it, the more it grew on me...it was an unusual flavor that I had never tried before and it was kinda neat. I reminds me of a mead (honey wine) but bubbly and creamy. It was sweet from the honey too. I would definitely recommend it to those of you who are a bit adventurous.

As we came upon Norway, I had to show Anna and Elsa my day drinking skills!

I was definitely full at that point, especially with all the drinks and ice cream!

Coming up...more characters, more fun, and Behind the Seeds!

Had to laugh at your day drinking skills! You were truly adventures by ordering that Chinese drink with beer in it. It sounds disgusting to me, but you make it sound quite delicious!

A - it's always 5 o'clock somewhere so never apologize for having a drink in hand :thumbsup2
B - it was so cute and pink you couldn't pass it up! :cheer2:

C - bubble tea with beer........um....:confused3 sure, why not!:hyper:

Great update! I loved the pink slushie (the gm one they have all the time is my favorite). I missed the beer/bubble tea drink or I would have tried it. I love bubble tea. I have missed the ice cream in Japan too - another one for the next time list!

Haven't has a chance to read everything yet, but just wanted to say happy belated birthday. So special to get to celebrate your birthday in Disney! And to watch Wishes on your actual birthday is extra special.
That watch is a real stunner!!!! So nice and sparkly!
So cool that you got a birthday message from Goofy.
The dessert from Morimoto looks so good. So does the one from O'hana (this is making me seriously consider adding O'hana next time, whenever that is).

I look back and can't believe how independent I had to be. I was and still am, a city girl at heart! I really miss the city life and being able to walk out of our apartment building and have the pick of hundreds of restaurants, bars, cafes, and parks all a few blocks away.

I think it would be awesome to grow up right in the centre of the universe like that lol. But then...I live in Toronto which I think has a lot in common with NYC...maybe not quite the density but I can walk to a lot of stuff from where we live and my kids take transit to school. So maybe that's why I can totally see living there. I hate driving too lol

Here's me very happy with my bacon-lard-roll breakfast!

MMMM makes me want some bacon lol

Beef Teriyaki Udon noodles and the Frushi!

I totally missed out on the Frushi when I was there somehow and really want to try it next time.

I reminds me of a mead (honey wine) but bubbly and creamy.

That sounds a bit odd...but I'm not that much of a beer fan....interesting I'm sure!

Just joining in to say that I'm enjoying your reports. It's funny because this August, we are doing a 14 day WDW trip that includes a 3 day cruise on the Dream smack dab in the middle. Coincidentally, we are staying at the Poly in a studio after the cruise and we are eating at 'Ohana for dinner that night. Great minds think alike

Ok, back to reading your trip report...

Haha yeah I don't normally drink during the day and now I've had 2 drinks! LOL.
The Dragon Pearl was definitely one of the weirdest things I've had in a long time but it was definitely worth trying once.

Got it!! So not sorry I had 2 drinks before noon!
B - it was so cute and pink you couldn't pass it up! :cheer2:

It was like the grey goose slushie taken to the next level!

I'll try (almost) anything once! I said. Except for bugs. Blech. Who wants to eat bugs?!? :confused3

Thanks! The bubble tea was definitely unique! I wouldn't drink it that often but I would order it again. The ice cream at Azuki Cafe is so creamy and delicious! China has a version of it too but it's a hard ice cream not soft serve and not nearly as good! (Although still decent)

Lots of special moments on this past trip. The Ohana dessert is definitely a must-do for us! Once we even extended our trip by a day to go to Ohana because we couldn't get ADR for it on any other day. Now THAT'S dedication! (Or just plain crazy, LOL)

I've been to Toronto once and yes I did notice the similarities although I don't think it is nearly quite as busy there as it is here. I would love to visit again!

It's really quite yummy!

I don't drink beer nearly as much as I drink wine, but this was definitely an interesting and unique drink!

Hi! And welcome! Thanks for reading! Wow 14 days! Awesome! It was a great amount of time to be surrounded by the Disney bubble. I hope you enjoy your cruise. Is this your first cruise? I love the Dream-Class ships! They are just beautiful although 3 days is too short, how will I spend enough time in the Rainforest room?

That's too funny you're staying at the Poly and eating at Ohana! I love them both and hope you have an amazing trip! You'll have to let me know how the crowds and stuff are in August. I want to know to plan and provide enough warnings for my family trip next year. I know it'll be hot and pretty crowded so I want to prepare them!

Yup, 14 days at Disney. DH is turning 50 this July so he chose both WDW and a cruise. Our DS is turning 6 during the trip. This will be our second cruise. Our first cruise was 16 looong years ago when we sailed the then two year old Magic as part of our honeymoon-also a land/sea package. I was hoping for at least the four day myself but I locked in our room ressies (rented DVC points) prior to booking the cruise so we could only fit in the 3 day. You made the Rainforest room sound so enticing. We are doing a couples massage when we're docked in Nassau.

We went once in August and I only have fond memories of having a great time that I didn't mind the heat nor the crowds.

I hope to write a trip report so stay tuned...

And here's the first time using my new Star Wars Dooney bag that I purchased on this trip! It's really cute and a lot more functional than I thought it would be. I wish it was a little bigger though. I'm the sort of person who carries her life around in a large tote bag all the time so paring down to a smaller bag was hard.

Why do I gravitate towards anything that has the world "lard" in it?
Anyways, this was basically a crusty roll with bacon and cheese, think it was Parmesan cheese, not sure, but get them to heat it up for you and it is just divine! I must be sure to get one on each trip from now on!
How have I never heard of this. Bacon and cheese and LARD!!!! Right up my alley. Know what I'm having next time I'm in France.

I don't usually day drink because I either get to tipsy or sleepy, but I think I prepared myself well during Mixology on the cruise so I was ok with this drink!
Oh this looks so good and the perfect day drink. Speaking of perfect, where did you get your necklace from? Love it!

We ended up getting the Beef Teriyaki Udon noodles and the Frushi! The noodles were really good, and the frushi was light and fruity! It was the perfect meal! DH is not as enamored with frushi as I am so I got to eat two pieces, hehe.

Oh we had both of these too and they were so good. Or at least the noodles were. My daughter loved the frushi and would have no part in sharing.

I'm sure you will not be surprised to know that between the bubble tea and beer me and my clan tried this. We loved it too and totally agree it had to grow on you.

After the 300th time I said "OMG, so cute!" we finally left the exhibit. I thought we were done with Japan, but then I saw the Kabuki Cafe, and remembered one of the best things I ate last year...the soft serve strawberry azuki bean ice cream. So I HAD to get it. I so want to try this!!! Will this be available in July? or is this only during Flower and Garden?

Yup, 14 days at Disney. DH is turning 50 this July so he chose both WDW and a cruise. Our DS is turning 6 during the trip. This will be our second cruise. Our first cruise was 16 looong years ago when we sailed the then two year old Magic as part of our honeymoon-also a land/sea package. I was hoping for at least the four day myself but I locked in our room ressies (rented DVC points) prior to booking the cruise so we could only fit in the 3 day. You made the Rainforest room sound so enticing. We are doing a couples massage when we're docked in Nassau.

Have a great double B-DAY celebration! We did the couples massage on the Magic and it was lovely, but we didn't get one of the special suites with the balcony and private jacuzzi. On this trip we opted just for the port specials which were nice. Hope you have a wonderful time at the spa!

We went once in August and I only have fond memories of having a great time that I didn't mind the heat nor the crowds.

I hope everyone feels the magic despite the heat and crowds! I am going with a lot of Disney newbies...my brother in laws have never been!

I hope to write a trip report so stay tuned...

Yay! I'm eager to read it!

Your bag looks awesome and the perfect event to debut it at.

It was the perfect event for it's debut! Thanks!

Looks like the guy in the front forgot where it was too. Is he asleep?????

Haha he must be or he did it deliberately! I remember I did this once a few years ago too before the renovation.

How have I never heard of this. Bacon and cheese and LARD!!!! Right up my alley. Know what I'm having next time I'm in France.

I didn't hear of this until recently so I knew it was something I was going to get. It's the perfect little breakfast pastry but know that they sell out of it as it gets later in the day. Guess it's really popular because you know, lard, bacon, cheese...all the good stuff.

Oh this looks so good and the perfect day drink. Speaking of perfect, where did you get your necklace from? Love it!

Thanks! It's from the disneystore.com. I got it for Christmas. My niece Maddie picked it out and it couldn't be more perfect. I don't know if it's still online but it's from Arribas Brothers if that helps.

Oh we had both of these too and they were so good. Or at least the noodles were. My daughter loved the frushi and would have no part in sharing.

Yum, I would totally get these again!

Where is this in Japan? The quick service restaurant? It looks and sounds delicious.

It's that snack kiosk that sells the shave ice and frozen beer. Kabuki Cafe I think it's called.

I'm sure you will not be surprised to know that between the bubble tea and beer me and my clan tried this. We loved it too and totally agree it had to grow on you.

Oh cool I'm not the only one who liked it!! Definitely a true find at the festival!

I so want to try this!!! Will this be available in July? or is this only during Flower and Garden?

It's available all the time. It's at the Kabuki Cafe which is the small snack kiosk in front of the Japan pavillion that sells the shave ice (Kakigori). They have green tea (matcha) and the strawberry red bean soft serves. I personally love the strawberry red bean but the green tea is great as well!

Have a great time!

All caught up again .... I was WAY behind. Just one week with little DIStime and I need the whole weekend to catch up again. :rotfl2:

Sounds awesome! I hope the experience on the Magic is better than on your last Mediterranean cruise! Is the itinerary the same or will there be any new ports? It looks like an amazing cruise and I am hoping to do that one one year.

We are doing a 7 night this time. We are doing ports in reverse order as well, so "kind of new". Two of the ports are new and it sounded interesting enough. Plus it gives us another chance to visit Barcelona, which we really loved last time.

the soft serve strawberry azuki bean ice cream. So I HAD to get it. I texted a picture of it to Chunkysis and she was sooo jealous! We loved it last year and we found it on a whim!

Now, that looks good! I never came across this one - is it a F&G thing or a regular one? If it is something regular then I am for sure need to try it in the summer. :thumbsup2

Just caught that you already answered this! Sorry.

the Dragon Pearl. It was a drink that had beer, cream, honey, and tapioca pearls. I had never heard of that drink before, but I am always one to try something once so I ordered it.

Now, that one does not sound so good to me. What an odd combination.

Oh, and your Star Wars Dooney looks FAB.

Great! I love red bean anything. Not so much green tea icecream. I think it (green tea) has an aftertaste i could not get used to. I will definitely include that in my have-to-try list. I tried the pineapple wine when we were there last april for flower and garden. I loved it.

Hi - I am up to page 14 of your trip report. I am loving it!!! I am going to be turning 40 in August and will also be in Disney in September (world, not land). I have been to Disneyland probably about 6 times in the last three years (combo work/add on vacation). If I remember correctly, the sub ride is now Nemo. What is cool about Disneyland is that they do offer concierge upgrades. On our last two trips (one Grand California and one Disneyland) they asked if we wanted a $100 upgrade.... we did it (we used DVC points). It wound up saving us money b/c we were able to have free bkfst, apps, and drinks :) - Also had a view of the fireworks from our room. Napa Rose is the best restaurant in my opinion. Blue Bayou was average at best - but if you sit outside upstairs you get a nice view. Take advantage of the even earlier extra magic hours and hit that cars land ride as many times as you can. When I was there, there was never a line for Toy Story mania or Soarin.... funny how it is so different on other side of the country.

I think you'll really enjoy the red bean strawberry ice cream. They have the same ice cream at China but it isn't soft serve, it's hard ice cream served in a cup and the soft serve is just so much better! Have a great time!

Thank you and welcome!! Happy early birthday! Thank you for the info on Disneyland! I've heard the Blue Bayou is not as good as the ambiance so I'll see if we'll be dining there. Napa Rose looks lovely, but I know it is not my sister's cup of tea (she'll be joining on our Disneyland) - she likes simple food. I think the lounge area has more food she'll like so maybe we'll dine there one evening for happy hour or something. It's all so exciting to be able to go back to Disneyland and experience it in a whole new way! I fully intend to ride Radiator Springs Racers as much as possible! It looks like so much fun! I can't believe how Soarin' and Toy Story don't have the lines it has in FL! That's pretty cool. DH will be happy about that as he loves TSM and he's sad he doesn't ride it much in FL now with FP+.

Day 5 Part 3: I am satisfied with my care!

We continued walking through the World Showcase and we hit Mexico, and Donald was there! So we got on line to meet him. He's the coolest duck on the planet. Although don't tell him we had duck confit in France! :rolleyes1

We headed into the Mexico Pavilion to go on the boat ride. I love going into dark spaces and buildings when it's bright outside. I guess I like a lot of contrast when I'm touring Disney!

We got the field green salad with apples, dried blueberries, stilton and apple cider vinaigrette. We also got the house-made potato and cheddar cheese biscuit with smoked salmon tartare. Both of these were fabulous! Great flavors! I think we were finally full after this.

I decided that I didn't get to do enough shopping around the World so I wanted to head back but DH, who doesn't like shopping said he'll go to Innoventions or something. We agreed to meet at the Baymax meet n greet.

I started walking and enjoying the sights and shops at F and G! I bought the two t-shirts they had for Flower and Garden that year.

I can't seem to find the t-shirts in our closet to take a picture of at the moment (typical) but here's a picture of the women's t-shirt I found online (care of Disney Fashionista)

And here's the men's t-shirt courtesy of DizDude:

f_g-tshirt-mickey.jpg

The men's is a light blue and it has a small design on the right chest front, and in the back has a larger graphic. I really liked the men's t-shirt and it suited DH perfectly as he's always trying to find ways to take care of our lawn!

As I was walking around, I coincidentally saw a mini crowd outside an area which is usually closed off. I haven't even seen this area of Epcot yet, as you never really notice it, but I realize that there were a bunch of characters there! I think this was one of the Character Training spots? So of course I ducked in and waited on line for each character!

Pretty cool! Meanwhile I was so busy taking selfies that I didn't notice the text from DH saying that he got on line for Baymax because it was long and to join him there...although I wasn't done yet when he got to the front of the line so he ended up taking a solo picture with Baymax!

So after I got DH's text I walked over to Innoventions to meet Baymax too! The line was long, there was no getting around it but I really wanted to get a picture with Baymax. His line is at least indoors so it wasn't hot and it was a good rest from walking all that way!

I like how they themed the area to look like San Fransokyo!

DH didn't want to wait on line with me so he went to wait on line at the Disney Visa Character Spot. There wasn't much of a line which was nice!

Today it was Minnie and Pluto! Actually I find we get Minnie and Pluto a lot!

We sat in Innoventions since there was a lot of empty areas now, and charged our phones a bit. We were doing ok without going back to the resort for a rest. The good weather was really allowing us to keep on going, usually by this time we are drained and need a dip in the pool and a nap. But we were fine today!

We headed over to where Captain EO used to be, which now housed the Disney and Pixar short films. This was really great and fun to watch! Our movies were Get a Horse!, For the Birds, and La Luna.
