Eight years ago our son was granted a wish trip to Disney. He was almost 10 and time was ticking away due to all of his disabilities. What we thought would be a once in a lifetime trip turned into an amazing love affair. You see Disney has mouse rules and those are not the HUGS rule. So for the first time in his entire life he was able to get out of his chair and have us hold him while he got to be a kid without limits.

Had it not been for this boards suggestions, links, and ideas we would never of been as prepared as we were to have not only an amazing first trip but many more.

With a heavy heart our son earned not only his wings but his legs this week. Disney will never be the same nor will our lives. While 18 years wasnt enough his life was well spent. He thumbed his nose at more then one specialist and in the end he got the last laugh. You see, he finished his bucket list one that was to never be finished. His tenacious spirit made sure of that.

So if you see a mom, dad and sister looking a bit lost over the coming years it might just be us. If you see someone smiling at your child in a chair a little more then you think necessary it might just be us. If you hear a young lady say something that makes your child feel special when others our cruel it might just be us.

Thank you for all your advice.
-Ohana means family and family means no one gets left behind or forgotten. Our family might be small and broken but good. Yes still good.

Thank you for sharing your story. Sending you love ❤️. I am so sorry for your loss and grateful you have wonderful Disney memories with him.

My heart goes out to you... I just can’t imagine what you are going through. My son was given a 1 day wish trip to Disneyland in 2011 which also sparked our love of Disney. Both of my children have disabilities although not life threatening (now), and I feel I can identify with your beautiful message. Best wishes to your family.

So sorry for your loss.
Thank you for the beautiful words and we are all glad that this board and the people on it were able to help you create a lot of wonderful experiences and memories.

❤️ ❤️

I am rarely moved to tears by posts online here but I was after reading this. I am so sorry for your loss and cannot imagine what you and your family are going through right now.

My condolences to you and yours.

May you find comfort and peace. Love never dies, it lives on in our hearts and memories forever. Blessings

What beautiful sentiments. Loved that you included the Ohana part at the end. My friend's nephew passed away of Neuaoblastoma (horrible cancer that he spent way to much of his life battling) 5 months ago at 18 years old and his eulogy talked a lot about Ohana and the meaning. I bet Connor and your son are having fun together as 2 18 years guys in heaven.

My heart hurts for you...
My daughter also had a wish trip in 2016 and we too thought it would the one and only (we went back in Dec 2017). I completely understand what you said about feeling free and feeling included. It is the only place my daughter can go on a ride and enjoy the little things which are big things for her. It brought complete joy in all our hearts. She has severe CP and many complex medical issues and like you we enjoy each day completely because it is one day we were not suppose to have! I am glad you had all those magical moments as a family! Remember those when you are feeling sad. God bless.

I am so sorry. Everyone has said so much better than what I would like to say to you. I hope you will always have these wonderful experiences and memories.

I am so sorry for your lost may the memories that you had with your son help you through this difficult time

What a wonderful tribute to your son - glad you will be able to continue going to WDW, even if sometimes it makes you sad.
