Teladoc

Does anyone know if a person could get blood work ordered from Teledoc?

Would love to get DHs PSA (prostate screening blood test) done to at least have a baseline.

I've never personally had labs ordered, but the only testing that's listed as available on my member site is a partnership with another company for "discreet STD testing."

Also less stress on the wallet, too, I would imagine.

It cost the same for us to use the teladoc as our primary care physician which is $0 out of pocket for the 'exam', plus prescription costs. Usually my pcp has same day availability, but this day she didn't and was awesome for my husband who was traveling so he didn't have to find a doctor. I would absolutely use this over a walk in clinic if it were a simple malady and my pcp had no appointments.

I went to the walk-in once for a UTI (they always seem to hit me on a weekend). It cost me over $400 out-of-pocket because we have a high deductible health insurance plan. I was sure of my symptoms and the antibiotic that worked in the past, so the next time I tried a teledoc recommended by our health insurance. $40, no waiting with contagious people, and a prescription was called in within an hour. I would definitely use the service again for something like that.

I *think* this would be a gp thing, but I'm not an expert. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Our insurance was kind of pushing Teladoc so we signed up. But so far, I was able to get quick appts at my regular doc and felt better about going there since they have my medical history.
We did put the app on our phone in case we need medical care when traveling.

YES!!!! I did this a month or two ago with a sinus infection that was just lingering forever, I finally decided that my body was not going to be able to handle this without an antibiotic of some sort and my doctor's office was closed with no online appointments that I could find for later that day. I logged in via my health portal and was connected to a very nice physician within a matter of minutes. He took his time with me discussing my symptoms and what his treatment would be, describing the antibiotic and some common issues I may have with it and called everything into my pharmacy, I received my prescription ready text within 30 minutes of the pharmacy opening (I was actually speaking with the doctor around 7am, which is well before most of the better urgent care facilities open).

It was pretty much as @gillep described. Dh has had just a run of the mill sinus infection but that wouldn’t let go. He just started a much more elevated job and needs to be ok. He got setup with the program (we had just our insurance cards last week) and was speaking to a doc shortly thereafter. The guy who established his account was great. The doc listened to him, got him what he needed and it was all just so easy with no sitting in an office, etc. I will definitely use this the next time I have something routine but that needs some attention.

I have never heard of this but I would love to do this.
I had a sinus infection that just wouldn't quit but I wasn't going to shell out over $100 to see the doc.
Is this something that is strictly through your insurance or can anyone use it?

Our health insurance uses Live Health Online too.

My daughter had a sinus infection and I couldn’t get her in with her pediatrician for over a week! Urgent care in our area had a two hour wait so we used Live Health Online through BCBS. It was so easy and quick. Felt like the doctor was thorough. Would definitely use the service again.

Ok what the heck is with all the sinus infections??? LOL!! I had one recently that would NOT go away and had to get antibiotics. How long did yours last and what were you given? I took amoxicillian

ETA: never used the teledoc but would, especially for
something minor or if you were on vacation and just needed antibiotics.

My dd used Teladoc for a rash on her legs. She uploaded photos. They told her to go see a Dr. in person, so it did her absolutely no good LOL. We no longer have the insurance that offers Teladoc.

I’ve used it like half the people here for a sinus infection. I’m quite prone to them and they don’t tend to go away on their own.

I would definitely use the service for anything I would use a pharmacy quick clinic. Things like antibiotics or basically anything I’ve had enough to be able to self-diagnose and just need a quick Rx. The cost is basically the same with my insurance, but far more convenient to have a chat or video chat from home and just swing by the drive-through to pick up the script.

If it’s something new or relating to general ongoing health then I’ll go in-person to my GP or specialist.

We have access to LiveMD through our insurance. Both DH and I have used it, it was easy! It was about the same price as a co-pay at our doctors office, but we could be seen much faster. Honestly I wish that I would have thought about using this recently as it would have been a better use of my co-pay.
