Hey everyone I could use some help. Rachel wants to have a Disney themed sweet 16 with her friends. I'm not sure how to do a Disney themed party that isn't "too young". As you all know she is totally into drama, music and all things Disney. Does anyone have ideas? The party will be in mid-August, right before she goes back to school for her Junior year. TIA for any and all suggestions :goodvibes Cheryl

Ohhhhh.....Cheryl!!! What about "Under the Sea"...all Little Mermaid themed decorations. I don't think it would be too childish. Lots of shells, starfish, etc. People could even come dressed in beach attire.

You should check out the August Scrapbooks Etc. magazine, they have a whole party planned out for teenage girls. You can easily just change the theme from Paris to something Disney. Included they have a photo booth, which would be fun if your girl loves drama! You can supply a generic castle background and the girls act out scenes from their favorite movies.

As for themes... a fun adult idea might be a Disney Villians party! Just look at these tasty poison apple cookies! Yum!

And here is the Disney Family site for parties in general: Click Me!

What if you create the party to be like a Disney-themed theatrical production. Kind of like the street characters at Hollywood Studios. You could still have Mickey and the gang, just gear them towards the stage and music. Music and theatre are a big part of Disney.

A World Showcase theme could be really cool. Lots of food and music from different countries and subtle hints of Disney instead of in your face. Or you could go a little less subtle and maybe use the awesome World Showcase characters that Reddy did for her book. They are so cute and would make awesome decor and invites.

Those are all fantastic ideas!!!!! I'll have Rachel look them over tomorrow :) Thanks so much!!!!!

These are all great ideas, but I particularly like the world showcase idea. Would make providing food for it a real adventure! And I agree that it is a great adult theme that you can add a touch of Disney to.

OK, I want a world showcase birthday party. I'm turning the big 4-0 next year. Someone want to plant a bug in my husbands ear?

I think all of those ideas are great!! I definitely second the "photo booth" with random props idea. I have a friend who did that at her wedding, and the pics are so fun and awesome!

Thanks for all the ideas! They're all awesome. I wish I could turn 16 multiple times to use them all. :goodvibes

We've picked the World Showcase idea. We have the Destinations cart, so we're gonna make decorations themed around the countries. We have a few Disney cookbooks, so we can make Disney food from all/some of the countries as well. Now I have an excuse to look at (and purchase) music from 'round the world, maybe even an Epcot soundtrack, if I can find one.

We're also gonna use some of the ideas from the scrapbook magazine. I love the photobooth idea.

Thanks so much for all of your help! I'm really excited! :upsidedow

There is a great cd from the world. I think it is called four parks. It has music from all the world showcase countries- it would be a great thing to have playing in the background.

If I promise to cook and clean up can I come too? I can't wait to see what you come up with.

MDD would be thrilled to have all of you attend :)

Her birthday is August 14th, but, she'll be at a choir camp that weekend so I think we'll have the party the Monday after or the Friday before. She hasn't decided yet.

What are your favorite "around the world" candy treats? A very special someone has offered to pick up some candy from EPCOT and ship it to us, but, everything I can think of might melt.

My ideas:
Mexico???
Norway--we're making rice cream--is there any special candy there?
China???
Germany--gummy bears
Italy???
American Adventure---we can get those treats here
Japan--pocky sticks maybe or???
Morocco???
France???
UK--tea biscuits or just tea
Canada--something made with maple syrup

Okay after writing the list it's clear we've never done "candy around the world" anyone have suggestions for us? Thanks

Germany also has that new caramel stand. Yummy! Will think about the rest of the countries.

Just returned from Italy and gelato is the big treat there. Crepes would be fun for France and you can fill with chocolate or fruit.
