Specialty drinks on the dining plan

We have the regular dining plan for our trip next week. When looking at the menus, the younger kids in the group were all excited about some of the specialty drinks like smoothies, milkshakes, drinks with lighted ice cubes, etc. Are any of these included in the dining plan?

Generally speaking, no. Anything with lighted ice cubes are a no. They are never included.

Milkshakes and smoothies at Table Service can sometimes be included, but not at every restaurant. Sci-Fi will let kids have a milkshake as dessert, for instance.

Milkshakes and smoothies at QS are a snack credit, and cannot be subbed into a QS kid's meal for a dining credit. If the kid orders an adult meal with their QS credit (allowed) they can get the smoothie or frozen lemonade as a drink. (But still no special cups or light-ups.)

Some Table Service restaurants will let adults order a milk shake or smoothie as their drink when using their adult TS credit (and possibly a second one as dessert.). It is rare for a TS restaurant to allow kids to order a milk shake as their drink when using a child's credit.

Any item in a souvenir container (e.g. drink cup or popcorn bucket) or glowing ice cubes are not included in any dining plan and will have to be purchased with cash.

We had some luck with this last year. TRex let us order smoothies for our drink and Sc-Fi let us order Milkshakes as our drink. They advised us that there were no refills but Sc-Fi offered to bring us soft drinks when the milk shakes were finished. It was generous since they told us other drinks could not be ordered as refills.

We have gotten virgin pina coladas/daiquiris at the Turf Club in 2012 and again this year in 2016 as our drinks on the dining plan. And I'm pretty sure Sci Fi, Whispering Canyon Cafe, and Prime Time all offer milkshakes as drinks on the dining plan.

In the past we have gotten amazing virgin drinks (I remember one was an awesome combo with ginger and they ised to be detailed in their drinks menu) at Le Cellier. But when we went this year, our server had no idea such a thing was even possible. She went to ask, but came back saying no.

BTW, what is up with Disney's lemonade? We had it at LC and at WCC and it was dreadful both times.

We had less success with this on our recent trip than we had in times gone by. But worth asking I guess.

Sci-Fi were cool with "milkshake as dessert" for the kids, which delighted them.

At QS, what we were doing most times anyway was using our QS credits on the adult menu. We would swap the drink and dessert for two non-special cup beverages, and split the food. So at CHH, the kids were sharing a combo platter, with two frozen lemonades, for example.
