Southwest Airlines will start flights to Hawaii!!!

Yay!! My husband works for Southwest, and found out today that they will be flying to Hawaii starting sometime next year! I've always wanted to go to Aulani, but the airfare is a major deterrent. But maybe this is my chance!

It's about time! We fly Southwest all the time it will be great to finally have an option to fly there.

Just to clarify: The announcement said they would be selling tickets next year, pending regulatory approval. It's a long process because they will need ETOPS certification for some of their airplanes and crew. ETOPS is extended operations for two-engine aircraft. It allows certified aircraft to fly into areas were there are not diversion airfields. Although it covers certain to over-land routes, it's mostly used over oceans. The colloquialism for ETOPS is "Engines Turn Or Passengers Swim".

Flights are not expected to begin until sometime in 2019.
