Don't answer this Di if you think I'm being too nosey but which is a more expensive trip WDW or DLC? Are there private villas to stay at in DLC or is it mostly hotels?
Well we usually go to WDW for 3 weeks and we're only going to Ca for 2 weeks but it seems to me to be significantly cheaper even bearing that in mind. The flights and rental car are not much different in price. At WDW we always (apart from the first year) stay onsite and for 3 weeks that really adds up. We're staying in a Best Western in Anaheim which is really inexpensive as are all the hotels we're staying in. I suppose it just depends where you stay in the end. There may be villas near DLC - we didn't look for any but it seems to be mainly hotels - I imagine you'd have to get out of the built up area and nearer the beaches to get a villa. We wanted to be very near the parks and there are only 3 Disney hotels which are all pretty pricey.
Interesting question!!!

Di, your holiday sounds absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to read all about it on your return. :flower:

Rhiannon, did you manage to wangle a visit to DLP into your holiday itinery?

No, decided against it in the end

I was wondering whether I could justify the expense of a extra night plus park tickets (on top of what we're already paying for the holiday) when I knew the park was going to be busy due to school hols, having NOT enjoyed the crowds :crowded: when we were there on a Sunday just before Christmas. I then found out that the day we would be going to DLP is a French bank holiday, so all of the parents would be off as well as the kids! I knew we wouldn't be able to get much done and it was going to cost a lot extra.

So the short answer would have been no!! But thanks for asking!

We fly into L.A. for 2 nights on the Queen Mary at Long Beach . . . Then drive across to Vegas for 4 days . . . Then a couple of days in San Diego which we've heard is beautiful - plan to do Seaworld and maybe the zoo. Then a week in Anaheim at Disneyland of course!! . . . Any tips?
In Long Beach, there are several nice restaurants on Pine Avenue, and many of them have outdoor/sidewalk dining. One of my favorites is King's Fish House, at the corner of Pine and Broadway (tel: 562-432-7463). Fresh fish daily. You can often sit outdoors and enjoy listening to the jazz trio performing across the street.

The drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas is 4-1/2 hours. Bring some CDs for the drive. One of my favorite experiences in L.V. is visiting the Fontana Bar at the Bellagio Hotel. It is an upbeat cocktail lounge with live musical entertainment, cocktails, and light food fare. There are terrific views of Lake Bellagio, and you can walk out on the terrace to watch the Bellagio fountains perform. Absolutely breathtaking!

When visiting Disneyland, we arrive early and go on many rides before the lines develop. Then we use a FastPass whenever possible. If you want to dine at Blue Bayou, make a reservation. Other than Blue Bayou, IMHO the dining options at Downtown Disney are much better than in the park. I have had terrific meals and service at Tortilla Jo's (Mexican food) and Naples (Italian).
