Signature Dress Code in Practice?

I think I generally dress well and don't look like a slob, but I am a California girl at heart and love my flip flops. Not pool flip flops, but nice flip flops with a pretty pedicure. Will they stop me from dining at a hotel signature restaurant if I'm wearing them?

We're dining at Yachtsman Steakhouse on our arrival day and I don't want to lug other shoes with me in my carryon. I always fly in flip flops.

They won't stop you, the dress code is 'suggested'.
Nice flip flops will not be unbecoming in any of the signatures. I usually throw on dark-wash jeans and a solid T and sneakers or a button down casual shoes. My girlfriend has done the same with a nice shirt and flip flops, maxi/sun dress and flip flops, etc. I've seen countless men in nice Reef's or other flipflops with polo's and khaki shorts.

Only place that might actually enforce their dress code is V&A. We've been to The other signatures and I usually wear a nice sundress and my fiance wears a button down or polo and khakis. If we are at a park before we usually rent a locker and then keep our nicer cloths there. We change then head over.

I've worn dress sandles and flip flops many times with no issue.

I don't see any problem with it, I tend to wear a pair of flat sandals and a sundress in the summer even when I got to "fancy" dress code men must wear a jacket restaurants and have never had a problem.

The only part of the signature dress code I see them enforce is the hat's for men, usually. If a man has a hat on at the California Grill that isn't for religious purposes, he'll be asked to take it off.

I'm guessing they'd probably kick you out if you tried to come in a bathing suit, but other then that... you'll be fine. Fancy flip flops were never really what they were against, anyway: more the pool shoes.

You'd be surprised. I've seen people in swim trunks and pool flipflops and semi-dry t-shirts in Yachtsman :scared:

You will not be uncomfortable at any of the signatures. The dress code is basically resort casual, so you will be fine with your flips on. I wear sandals with a low heal but if I could figure or how to walk and not fall down in flips or flats I would wear them! They have some really pretty ones!

I have always been to go to a Signature thinking we would be underdressed, but on a recent Disney special with Jeff Mauro and the Food Network, Jeff Mauro went to the California Grill in park clothes so I guess they can't be too strict?

You will be golden :). The REAL dress code, for anything other than V&A, is fairly simple:

"Don't show up looking like a bum".

Now, I understand that this is pretty vague, yet crystal clear :). WDW GETS that you are on a vacation, and they actually want you to HAVE a vacation :). Many of the dress codes at finer restaurants ARE "suggestions" - there are only a few things that will trigger a red flag - and you could sort of guess them....

Nasty political, religious, offensive T shirts....
Really rotten clothing - dirty, tattered, sexually offensive (applies to BOTH sexes).
Anything else that is just going to piss people off, and ruin THEIR dinner. I admit, I can't quite come up with one of these....

Rather than trying to get really formal about all this, I think WDW has TRIED to moderate your particular tastes within an obvious group environment.... and they've done a pretty good job :). But they HAVE to enunciate some rules, just so they have the option of saying "No - we BOTH know that's just not going to fly" :). I believe this happens RARELY... but when it does? There is a pretty good reason for it....

And THANK YOU. You actually worried a bit about this. You would not have done so if you had no concern for others :). Now - just a personal opinion..... your mom did a great job, and you listened :). Folks like you are the ones we LOVE seeing at those restaurants :). Sandy and I hope you have a truly stunning trip :).

We once arrived to check in for Monsieur Paul and a woman checking in in front of us was wearing a mid-drift t-shirt, cut-off jean shorts and Viking face paint. The hostesses sort of giggled after they escorted the couple upstairs, but they were seated without issue.

Your flip flops will be absolutely fine. I have a pair of gold flip flops that are my WDW go-to shoes - they look cute with capris, shorts and sundresses - and they have walked into pretty much every signature restaurant on property! You'll be fine.

I really like this one :). YES - the real question was - "was this person going to ruin another dinner's experience?" I must admit - it would not have destroyed OURS. If we had children with us? I don't think we would have gotten any "Mommy why" questions :). Perfect example of catering to a diverse audience, with offense to no one :).

Again - you're Golden :). Again, THANK YOU - you are one of the FEW that actually cares about how others might feel. You should be commended, and I'm doing that right now :).

As others have said not an issue with all. My favorite to date was a woman dining at artist point in her half marathon gear complete with a tutu and race jersey still on

'Personally the "dress codes" annoy me, I dress respectably but when I am on vacation, I am paying for this vacation and I don't dress like a slob but I dress in what I feel comfortable in get over it I am on vacation for chrisss sake not a retreat
