Am I reading this week's email from Disney correctly?
I'm interpreting it was meaning that we will (independently, at our own cost) need to take a COVID test 1 to 2 day before sail date (9/18). That seems to mean that we can get tested on Friday, September 16th. We then will have to submit the results by Saturday midnight. It looked like Disney had an arrangement with a lab to do the testing for $32, BUT, when I went to that firm's website it seems that the firm doesn't provide kits in the US. The two links to testing in the US both go to the same website.
We'll need to upload "documentation" of a negative test to the Sail Screen website. Since we can't start our account on Sail Screen until fifteen days before departure, I can't determine how that will be done, and what documentation is needed.
We fly to London on Friday evening 9/16 , so will have to hope we can get tested without problems before we leave, and then get it posted to the website.
It might be easier to show up at the port without doing the test:
"Fully vaccinated guests who do not upload the required pre-trip test results on the
Sail Screen app by midnight prior to embarkation day must be tested at the terminal before boarding and will be charged. The cost of embarkation tests for fully vaccinated Guests will be £60 (GBP) for the initial antigen test, and, if needed, £105 (GBP) for a confirmatory PCR test, charged at the time of service."
This is definitely getting to be painful.
Edit: I see that there is a thread on the main cruise page
https://www.disboards.com/threads/know-before-you-go-updated-may-17-testing-rule-changes.3883524/ about the testing changes. There are 24 pages, so it will take me quite a while to wade through it to see if it provides additional insight.
And I just saw
https://onpoint-testing.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhvfyqfmD-QIVDa7ICh2ijQXkEAAYASAAEgLX3fD_BwE More reading! That thread mentions a $14.99 virtual test where you use your own test kit. Sounds like a potential option. I just ordered the free home COVID test from the postal service:
https://special.usps.com/testkits
Edit2 (7/27): I've scheduled two virtual supervised tests with Onpoint at 6 am on the Friday we fly to the UK. No test kits from USPS yet.
Disney has no update on Bermuda, specifically COVID testing. They may have something in August. Disney rep told me last night that there will be plenty of tests onboard if needed before arrival in Bermuda.
Edit 3 (7/31): I received the free COVID tests ordered through USPS. Their expiration date is 9/14, two days
before our predeparture test is scheduled.
They were apparently manufactured in March. The general population demand for the tests is significantly lower now, so it seems they are sending out kits stockpiled in the spring that are approaching expiration. We may have to purchase some from a local pharmacy or Walmart.
