Say Goodbye to the Auction Scene in Pirates

I wonder why, when I was 6 years old, this scene didn't raise questions, this scene didn't worry my mommy and I didn't grow up thinking is was acceptable to auction women.

1. The intelligence and inquisitiveness of 6-year-olds is subject to the Bell curve just like any other human attribute.
2. Sometimes parents pretend that disturbing things are not disturbing in order to protect their children, particularly when those children seem to have no clue that they are viewing something disturbing.
3. Most people grow up believing that behavior that leads to felony convictions and lengthy prison sentences is not acceptable.

Everyone is different. When I was a kid the scene did raise questions.

Whether you are offended or not probably has to do with your generation and how you were raised. My first ride on it was when I was 5 years old. My parents laughed through that scene and the following scene where the pirates were chasing the women and especially at the one where the fat lady was chasing the pirate. They thought it was hilarious and so I never thought anything bad about it. Since it never offended me in the least, I was really sad by losing the second scene and mortified when they added Jack Sparrow stuff. I was first sad hearing about the bride auction going away (I always get sad when they change anything), but if it offends people I am fine with them changing it. The Jack Sparrow stuff has offended me the most, but that's because it was a classic ride and I didn't like them turning it into a movie ride. It will always be one of my favorite ride.

Interestingly, my adult daughter has mentioned to me that she can't believe they have pornography on the ride. She is referring to the hanging picture of the red head where only hair covers her boobs.

In a way it's sad that kids today are so aware of these things. At 6 years old I didn't make the connection between "We wants the readhead!" and rape. I didn't even know what rape was. At 6 Catvondita was aware and concerned about harassment and rape. But since current children are concerned and upset by that scene I guess it's time to remove it.

I do remember my very religious Aunt not allowing my cousins to ride because of "drunkenness". In a way it's also too bad that people offended by that scene don't just do what she did - don't ride it.

I wonder when the torture scene will be taken out?
