Room Night Minimum/Room Block confusion

Hey All!

Tentatively planning a (mini) Wishes wedding with approx 23 guests (+ us, so 25 in total) although concious of our budget which would have to be close to the minimum (there is a little flexibility but not much).

Bought the Passporter.

One thing that's puzzling me is the room night minimum (which I understand is 25) and room block (10?).

I have never stayed on site at Disney (*sharp intake of breath*, lol). We are from the UK and come with family members and so usually take the option of a villa to make the holiday more cost effective. I also enjoy having our own space as we dont spend every waking hour in the parks.

I am totally onboard with staying onsite before and on the wedding day and afterwards, it makes sense. However, I would then like to take the rest of my "honeymoon" offsite, back in a villa.

I have a few guests (probably 2 rooms) that would stay onsite for the duration of the holiday (14 days - not 25!).

Can someone explain to me the minimum room night guarantee please and if it would be possible for us to stay offsite or if you think it would be more cost effective to stay onsite?

Thanks in advance

It works like this:

  • You don't actually have to set up a room block, and often UK couples don't for the reasons you mentioned.

  • If you want to set up a room block, it must have at least 10 nights set aside.

  • That's nights, not rooms.

  • If you want a free night at a Disney-owned resort, you and your guests must fill at least 25 nights.

  • Two parties x 14 nights each = 28 nights, so you are definitely going to get a free night.

I have an episode of the Disney Wedding Podcast that explains everything in detail: http://disneyweddingpodcast.com/2016/01/20/how-to-set-up-a-room-block/

Brilliant! Thanks for that, I get it now. I thought it was so difficult to reach the 25 nights but when you factor in all of your guests then its easy reachable.

Is the 25 night rule just to get a free night then, or is that mandatory for every wedding?

No wedding is required to set up a room block. 10 nights is the minimum you must guarantee if you DO want a room block. 25 nights is the minimum you must fill if you want a free night.
