I hope you guys aren't like people who just watch NASCAR for the wrecks popcorn:: Don't need that mojo!

I want my Poly points! 🤣🤣🤣

I don’t watch NASCAR at all and am not the kind of person who rubbernecks on the freeway— I AM ROOTING FOR YOU…but also genuinely curious if there’s going to be a hard floor or if it’s more of a sieve…I still dream of being a DVC tycoon in the Bungalows and a girl’s got to start somewhere.
Thanks! I appreciate the good wishes from all fellow DISers!

I'm just sweating out the wait. Humor helps...a little!

I think whatever decision is made will show us a great deal. Obviously my previous $125 that got taken indicates a floor north of that as of April 1. $140s-150s appear to be acceptable. But I am now at $135. So I just don't know. 🤔 Just have to wait it out.

Here's to waiving to each other from bungalow balconies one day! 😀

Did your contract taken at $125 have any points available?

Can you quantify how many points are needed to be a Bungalow Barron?

Would a baron be above or below a tycoon? For me personally, being a tycoon means you can blow 200 points a night on a bungalow (or grand villa) for a few days without making too many sacrifices on the rest of your DVC trips… so maybe not a fixed number, but probably 1000-2000 points depending on how often the owner likes to travel…anybody over 2000 points is a tycoon in my book, but for me personally being a tycoon is always about 600 points more than I presently have. 🤣

I feel Barron is “old money” and a tycoon is “new money”. 😁

We’re starting to look into purchasing some SAP’s. Our last three DVC trips have all been booked under 7 months and we prefer 1 BR’s and don’t mind split stays so I feel like SAP’s might be the next logical step. Have also looked at RIV direct with the new pricing but not sure it’s worth the extra cost.

Is there a big difference between SSR and AKL for SAP’s? My thinking was if things start getting locked down AKL is somewhere we enjoy staying, and assume a refurb is coming soon so maybe that’s worth spending a little more. I just feel like I don’t see a lot of AKL SAP points being bought.

I think there's less dues risk at SSR, plus should be cheaper outlay.

AKL you get a shot at value or concierge... plus a few more years.

I was able to get a fully loaded AKL resale that was priced similarly to an SSR resale. For me it was worth it, because even if we won’t always use the points at AKV, if we couldn’t get in anywhere else we’d be more than happy to stay there. Whereas, I couldn’t say the same for SSR, which is lovely, but just not a top choice for me. So even though the AKV dues are higher, being able to find equal resale price points made animal kingdom lodge worth it to me. But like everything in DVC, it boils down to what is worth it for each of us individually, based on our preferences and the prices out there.

So that’s basically been my thought process, we would be happy staying at AKL in most circumstances, and I’m not sure I can say that about SSR. Im currently looking at a few contracts for both on the board sponsor website and they are comparable in price at face value. Haven’t submitted any offers to find out actual pricing.

With my AK contract I bought last year I've booked studios at Poly, BC, BW, and GF...yes split stays but we prefer those. I also managed to get a waitlist filled for a Value room but would never have gotten that without the home resort advantage as I put that request in early. So that one value has already gotten me one step closer to SSR pricing. AKV is an underrated SAP+.

I bought SSR last year in April or so and at that time I got what I thought to be a good price, $80. AKL pricing seemed to be around $115-125 at that point. This year just looking at the ROFR threads it seems many more people are getting sub $100 pricing. If the pricing had been closer, I would probably have tried for some AKL contracts before SSR, but, I’m not sure either one is particularly a hot ticket item in terms of desirability. I do like that SSR is already renovated.

I did a 4 night split stay in February and stayed in Kidani savannah and was not impressed at all. The walk was a nightmare, and the rooms were very unattractive, super dark with yellow lighting. It was my least favorite by far, and we also did SSR, VGF, and WL.
I don’t personally think the Savannah is that great, saw some animals, but it just didn’t make me want to sit on that balcony for long periods of time waiting for them to come by.
I do thing the lobbies are impressive, but not sure the refurb could be so drastic that I would love the rooms, and I don’t like how isolated AKL is. That and the fact that the dues are higher made us pick SSR for SAP.

AKV is isolated. At least with SSR you can always go to Disney Springs, which we do every trip anyway.

That was the reason we chose SSR. When looking at a week long resort stay, even though it has great food, it is a bit of a food desert if there all week. With SSR you have all the food options of Disney Springs and when the kids are bored they can change it up and go walk Disney Springs. To do anything else at AKL requires travel which changes the equation in my opinion when giving my kids some freedom.
