Report, a rope-drop tip, relatively low crowds, pics & map offer

I was surprised that crowds were relatively low at the park today. A number of people from DisBoards have plans to come over the next few weeks. Hopefully the crowd gods continue to smile on us ;-).

Tip
One thing of which to be mindful during the holidays at rope drop: often when we're waiting at the rope for the park to open officially, CMs will choose a family or three to come up to the castle and snap some pics before anyone else is there. This makes for great pics, so keep it in mind if that's something that would help to make your trip even better. I'm not sure how families are selected, but if you ask, I suspect your odds will increase exponentially.

Brief report and pics
We arrived early at the park gates, as (nearly) always. Shortly after the gates opened, I saw the same "skipper" that beat me to PP at rope drop recently. This is not a child or even a teenager. This is a grown-ash woman. She and I had a single date within the last ten months and she's been a jerk ever since, which doesn't bother me in the least. Ignore me and be rude -- truly, I don't care. But don't skip once the rope is down. Anyone over the age of three realizes that's tantamount to running. CMs have called out to her a few times to no avail. She beat me recently because I'd accidentally passed the PP opening (it's not always in the same place). This morning I could tell that she had the same thing in mind and, indeed, she tried to jump in front of me in the last 30 feet. Nope. Not having it. Many of you know that I've let nice people have my first-place spot. For example, if it's a family of first-time visitors or it's a kid or kids and they seem good natured -- in both cases, I'll trade places with them and they're then first on the attraction. In any case, I did beat her (although it was close) but when we arrived, we were told the bitter news that the attraction was not yet open. We all kind of laughed and then booked over to Mr. Toad. It was a friend's bday today and I/we got her a Disney gift card. She/they were the first riders on Mr. Toad, so that worked out OK in the end.

After MT, I ambled back to PP. It was still not open but I struck up a conversation with the attending CM. As many of you know, CMs rarely have an accurate estimate of when an attraction in question will reopen. In those cases, I simply ask "If it were you, would you wait?" The CM I spoke with then explained that it could be as long as an hour and that he wouldn't wait. But after a few minutes, he caught my end and gave me the nod -- yes, it's now best to begin to form a line. I did and a few minutes later we were on our way in - we still managed to be first :-). Additionally, before we got to ride, the same CM offered to walk us on later in the day. We returned at around 10:00 and waited less than a minute. It's rare that I ride PP more than once a day. Today, obviously, was an exception.

Buzz was especially aggravating today. I broke 2M six times... but only got credit for it once. There were a number of other dropped high scores as well. As I often observe of that attraction, nearly always it's a greater source of frustration than of pleasure. I'll post a few pics below (I only grabbed six today).

Incidentally, next Sunday will be my last day in the park until Jan 5. In the intervening days, please talk quietly among yourselves ;-).

Map offer
I have park maps, as I often do. If anyone would like a set, send me a direct message with your preferred mailing address -- domestic only, please, unless you'd care to makeup the postage. I usually send two of DL but can send up to three in any combination that you like.

I scored 2M on my first game of the day! It did not, however, presage great scores coming through later. I’ve come to accept long ago that scores are only about 65% likely to come through. Still aggravating, though.

They held the Candlelight Processional tonight (and I made sure I was gone long before it began ;-)). I believe it was streamed live.

The ride home was the scariest attraction by far today. I barely made it ;-).

Thanks for the report. I was there yesterday too and the crowds were definitely nice (especially early). I rode Buzz pretty early, and did not see your name, so I just assumed you had not made it over there yet. I did go over to DCA and it seemed more crowded there, but still not bad overall!

Love all the tips and I’m glad you had a great day (minus the frustration on Buzz). Yay ! Glad you got rewarded with being 1st on PP and was escorted on for your 2nd ride. Glad you made it home ..... running on empty is definitely nerve wracking.

Be careful lettin the gas get that low. You run the risk of burnin out the fuel pump.

Went yesterday specifically for the CP - I see we had opposite goals! Managed to get a decent view for the second showing!

We were there Saturday and it seemed pretty busy to me, so interesting if Sunday was slow...
We were able to ride PP on our trip and I thought of you, as did I when I was briefly on the Buzz leader board (it was early in the am, close to opening)
We will miss your trip updates!

For some reason, I thought you drove an electric car... 🤔

Any tips on being picked as the family that does the countdown to open the park? Certain time to arrive, certain gate to stand at? We've never once been picked. I always figured it's because it's usually just my daughter and I and only having 2 people doesn't make a good group photo. 😂

You're living on the edge Rob! Lol I do the same, drive until the fuel light turns on.

Perhaps because recently I posted pics of the charging stations in the parking structure?

Certainly I'm no expert but I think your best bet is to be at the gates by about 7:15. Look for a Cast member -- preferably a lead who wears an earpiece - and simply ask if you can open the park. Provided they haven't already chosen someone, you've got as good a chance as anyone. Good luck!

I was there with my two kids and we were picked. It was September 2017. There was nothing special about us. We were the first at our gate. We probably arrived about 45 minutes before park opening but we were definitely not the first family at the gates.

FWIW, I think the selection process is largely random. But it never hurts to identify yourself as an interested party.

Ah yes! This might be it. I myself drive electric and although usually stay in a hotel on Harbor and walk to the park, I found that post very helpful in the event I want to stay a bit further, park and get a full charge.
