Ride delayed, evacuating is now giving fastpasses

I had two live experiences last week, one on Thursday with one of my daughters with me at the park and another waiting in the airport to fly down for the 10K trying for us. The daughter with me used the “My Status refresh“ method, and I and the daughter at the airport used the method of going back to the “Read More” button until the “Join Boarding Group” button turns red. The one at the airport got Boarding Group 23 just as the two of us in the park were on the page to select the members of our boarding group.

On Saturday, the second daughter and I, both in the park, used the “Read More” method and she got BG 59 before I even got a red button. It occurred to me later that I had forgotten to turn off my WiFi as I had intended. But, someone next to us that we had been talking to was using the “My Status refresh“ method and hadn’t gotten through yet.

Bottom line on this point. Our experience does not show that the “My Status refresh” method is clearly better.

My conclusion based on following this thread closely and then my own experience is that, as long as you start right at 7AM, or whatever the hour of the day is, what BG you get is more a factor of random chance than using a specific method. I would, however, recommend turning off WiFi and using data if you have it.

I realize there's absolutely NO way to predict this - but our late April visit shows a DHS opening time of 9am. If you were a betting person, is there any possible way it'd open at 7am or do you think 8am is the most they'd jump?

The schedule could definitely change. It is very likely it will end up being 8am or even 7am. Keep an eye on it.

I almost didn’t get a fastpass.
I was checking after I was scanned, and it didn’t show up, but the guy next to me - his did. I’m glad I checked before leaving the immediate area. A CM next to the entrance was able to add one for me. I wonder if it had to do with my having fastpasses for MK today??

Do you mean a boarding group?
And, no, getting a BG is completely independent of your FP+ plans, whether in DHS or any other park.

Nope. I was evacuated from the ride, and so was given an anytime fastpass. I had BG 11. Entered the line at 7:42. Everything was going well, lines moving fast until they weren’t. Evacuated around 8:05.

He’s my story for this morning.
I’m from Atlanta so drive down but normally use Disney transport. However devices to drive this morning to avoid just missing a bus. Left around 6. Got to park around 6:15 was through turnstiles around 6:30. Went and sat at fountain near sunset intersection. Had app closed and right when the second hand on my clock hit 7 launched mde and got 15.

Since there were Starting issues yesturdsy stopped at star tours along the way and shortly after getting in line got notification Group was called. Finished st went right over and was starting in about 5-10 minutes. About a smooth an experience as possible.

Oh. I understand. Sorry. I wasn't paying close enough attention! No, your FP+ at MK shouldn't've had any impact on your getting a recovery FP+ for RotR. Shouldn't have . . . but with Disney IT, who knows?

Here right now. My daughter used the “refreshing My Status” page method and got us Group 28. She was one of the first cheers to be heard in our section of the parks. Our yuck didn’t last however as at about 8:10 there was a break down. Got snacks and water passes out to us. Finally got up and running and all the way to the main ride vehicle room and were told that we’d be escorted out and given a fast pass. Kinda ruined the ambience of the ride. But my daughter is excited because she gets to see the various staging cues again.

It looks like it’s getting better each day. If you’re in at park opening you’re almost guaranteed to get a BG.

Hopefully - although I think this weekend will be the first real test since the holiday crowds left. Last year MLK weekend was much higher crowds than marathon weekend. Fingers crossed we don't see any more 90 second BG craziness!
