POFQ Closing... Which resort should we choose now?

Well, I had spent countless hours/days planning and booking my families first trip to Disney. Thanks to advice from numerous people and research on my part we had selected POFQ and were at the point where we were anxiously awaiting our mid-May arrival.

Now, POFQ is closing and I'm back to square 1. We're either going to move to another Moderate resort or request an upgrade to a Deluxe.

The question is... My family (1 daughter - 8 years old) and another family who is going with us (2 kids - 5 and 7) wants to know which resort should we choose that would provide our kids with the best Disney experience?!?!?

Signed...

Lost without POFQ...

JJ

If you are staying in the moderates and considering the kids I would go with POR 1st, CSR 2nd, CBR 3rd based on my research and threads.

I think you should ask for a discounted upgrade to one of the less expensive deluxes such as AK or WL and see what happens - you never know

Thanks
Jason

I have never stayed on a WDW property before. this is my first time and I am staying at POR. If you still want the New Orleans experience it would probably be the next best thing.

My family really loved CSR. We love the pool and the room decor. We stayed in the Cabanas section (buildings 9A and 9B) which is close to the food court, pool, and bus stop. PO-R and CBR are nice too.

I was planning on staying back at POFQ on my next trip. This is my FAVORITE moderate for many reasons. But now I need to look elsewhere.

I would suggest contacting CRO and seeing what they are offering people who are being forced to change their resort because of this renovation. The last time they closed Caribbean Beach for renovations, guests with ressies were given the option of either being placed at another moderate or for $20 more per night, able to stay at either the Animal Kingdom Lodge or Polynesian. This is what happened to me on my last trip, since I was booked at CBR before they announced the rehab and got bumped up to the Polynesian. Now since CBR is much larger than POFQ, they had more rooms to fill, so I can't guarentee that they will make this offer again due to the POFQ rehab. But what does it hurt to ask. If they indicate that the only thing they are offering is moving to another moderate, I would recommend the Caribbean Beach. Another option may be to see if they will offer you an upgrade to the Wilderness Lodge. This is one of the least expensive of the deluxe resorts.

Definitely call and see what they offer you! Then you can go from there in terms of making a decision :) You never know...they might offer you an upgrade to make up for your disappointment at not being able to stay at the resort you wanted :) Let us know what they offer you!!

We have stayed at all the mods. Our favorite is CBR, followed by PO and then CSR. But they are all great!

The closing is not permanent but looks like in due course it will be all of PO over the next two years in rotation with POFQ possibly closed entirely for part of that time

Thanks
Jason

We were book at POFQ for October 2002 and they called in June to tell us it would be closed. THey offerered us another resort. I asked for an upgrade and received a Savannah view at AKL for the same price. I could have stayed at Poly for 50 more a night. So don't just settle for a moderate if you want more. They are willing to offer more. I stayed at CSR in Jan and hated it. After staying deluxe twice it was hard to go moderate. Many people like it though. We decided to buy DVC after our last visit so now we get the great villas.

Good luck with your decision

We really liked AKL and Wilderness lodge

Has Disney started calling people yet to change their POFQ reservations? It may make a difference in what you are offered if you wait for them to call you, rather than you calling them. ~:D~

Just read this over on the Intercot boards. ~:D~

Here is what I know.....The closure begins May 3rd. A move to POR or CB is the same rate, a move to WL or AKL is $10 more a night, and the BC, BWI, and Poly are $30 more a night, subject to availability.

That would be a good deal. If you had a $94.00 code then you could get the WL or AKL for $104 and the Poly, BC or BWI for $124. I'd love to get thoe rates during my trip. I'd swap to the Poly in an instance at $124.

Has anyone received a call yet? Anyone? We have 3 rooms booked so I'm wondering if we should call them? I just don't know what to do. We chose FQ because of it's small size. I have a leg problem and walking can be quite painful at times. None of the other moderates fit our needs right now. Will they leave a message on the answering machine if we're not at home? No one seems to know the answer to this. I wish they would call someone soon. This is the third time this has happened to us.

We have (had) ressies at POFQ for May 6th check in and we haven't gotten a call yet, but I expect it will come soon. Of course I'll post when I hear....

I had a FL resident rate of $74. Do I dare hope for WL or AKL for only $84? I would be so thrilled!

All things considered I am crushed that POFQ is closing for a renovation. I have not stayed there in quite a few years. I have such fond memories of the place, being there during the Hurricane...Now I am just kicking myself for not making my September reservations last week! ;)

We will book at AKL, most likely. The resort was wonderful and the transportation was great. I may break down and try WL if I can get over the plaid bedspreads. I live in the Northwest, and the over the top "lodge feel" is like nails on a chalk board for me! :)

We were booked at POFQ May 1-4 and Wonder Cruise May 4-8.
I actually picked the cruise week based on POFQ availability when I booked over a year ago. We just love the resort and are so disappointed, especially with the late notice. My TA called today and said Dis had contacted her and offered the Poly for $30 more per night. I told her I'd call back after contacting other family members involved, and when I called back to accept the Poly offer, the TA was closed. I could kick myself for booking through the TA, because I don't know if the offer will still be good tomorrow.
