Please don’t smoke or vape in the airline bathroom...

I’m a captain for a major airline and I’ve run into this several times recently.
I realize it’s hard to go several hours without your fix, but here’s what happens....

We get major alarms in the cockpit that there is a fire in the restroom. Not good.
I have no choice but to have the police escort you off the airplane (after I realize it’s not an actual fire).

Please just don’t do it. No matter how bad you need the nicotine fix, it will end badly for you, and all the passengers.

They should be escorted off the plain (preferably mid-flight) but if you're going to escort them off after the flight the other passengers should all be given overly ripe tomatoes to throw at them on their way out. Oh and they should put on the do not fly list (for life). But in all seriousness, I wish I could believe you were joking about it, but I know you're serious. These people should never be allowed to fly again.

We had this happen on our flight home from Disney in January 2017. It was a late night flight so the cabin was dark and we didn't even know there was a problem.
Upon landing, they made an announcement that everyone had to remain seated, and law enforcement boarded the plane and escorted a man who was seated several rows in front of us off the plane.
Once we were off the plane and in the terminal, we asked some of the people who had been seated near him what happened, and they told us that he had been caught trying to smoke in the bathroom.

Can we eat yellow snow though? Or run with scissors? pretty please , kidding.
I have never witnessed a smoker on a fight in ages...kinda funny they still try it. They always get caught..

The same clueless/self-absorbed people are probably the ones who think the rules somehow don't relate to them and try smoking on a flight. They probably are too busy texting and also don't hear the announcement made before EVERY flight about no smoking. Maybe once they get arrested they will get the message.

I think it's sad. It shows the power the addiction has over them. Of course they know (like everyone) not to smoke mid-flight, but the ones that do it anyway probably are chain smokers who haven't spent 7 waking hours without a cigarette in years. They thought they could cope, but once onboard they couldn't.

The real lesson here is, "Don't smoke". Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances out there.

Well the flight I was on that I described above was only about a 2 hour flight (Orlando to Washington DC!) :)

There are signs, especially in and around the bathrooms, telling passengers they can't smoke. Anybody who can text can read.
Hi, Kaytie!

My dear woman...have you READ what passes for text messages today? I C U R geekin at the curve you threw at my boo...

Just cause they're words, DOESN'T mean they're reading...

I'm just sayin'.

Easy to say... But there's nicotine gum, nicotine paches, medication... Few people suddenly find themselves on a plane. Plan in advance. I'm not even saying quit - just plan ahead.
Not to mention Copenhagen, Skoal, and Red Man that provide higher serum nicotine levels than cigarettes.

Another less is check the cigs so even you are tempted there is no way to do it.
