We are planning our first ever family WDW vacation (it's been 12 years since our last WDW vacation) for approximately May 31-June 8 with a day at Universal for WWOHP and a day at the coast to see my best friend and her family and surprise my son with a day at Kennedy Space Center.
Who: Me (38), DH (39 celebrating 40!), DS (7), and DD (5) plus my parents (64 and 66). We will be paying our own way and they will pay theirs but since they decided to come along we will have access to military discounts since my dad is retired AF.
Where: Most likely Shades of Green Jr. Suite so we can all stay together and split the cost. We have it reserved for our full stay as of right now. We may change depending on what the Armed Forces Salute discounts look like. (Our portion will be about $1350 if we stay there all 9 nights). I'm considering breaking this up a bit and spending the night on the coast for more time with my friend's family and also considering a one night stay over at Universal to get early access to the park. I'm thinking our budget for this will have to max out at $1500 and I'll adjust as needed.
Tickets: As long as Armed Forces Salute doesn't change dramatically, our plan is to get the 5 day hopper. That would be $1000 in 2018, so I'm budgeting $1200 for now. Obviously, if we can't do that the price almost doubles.
Food: I've used the dining plan calculators to try to get an idea on this and I think we will probably be around $1400 at the high end.
Transportation: I'm budgeting $1200 for flights for the four of us. If I booked right now for similar dates it would be about $1000, but again I'd rather budget higher because who knows where the ticket prices will be when we can actually book. We'll also need a rental car to get to the coast ($150) and then transport to and from the airport and between Disney and Universal (I still need to research this but $150 is what I'll put here for now.)
Other: Universal tickets ($800), Kennedy Space Center tickets ($200)
Souvenirs: Wands at Universal already put us at $200 and I'm sure the kids will each get at least something small at Disney and KSC as well so since I'm budgeting high, I'm going to say $500.
Total: $6200
That number is a lot higher than I'd like but that just means I need to start saving NOW.
