Paradise Island Beach

We want to go to the public beach while wer'e in port in Nassau. Does anybody know the best way to get there? Is it a nice beach?Is it safe? Its location? Any help would be great. Thanks, Rich

We easily took a taxi over the public beach on Paradise Island - the taxis $4 pp and they drop you off right at the public access. It is by the Sheraton and just a short walk down the beach to the Atlantis. We had a very enjoyable day. The water is beautiful. There are alot of vendors selling various beach wear, drinks, offering hair braiding who walk the beach area, we just said no thank when approached and had no problem. The beach did not feel unsafe, but we didn't feel completely comfortable with leaving our camera and personal items unattended on the beach, so we took turns going into the water with the kids. They also had banana boat rides available from the beach area. Our taxi driver asked us what time we wanted to be picked up and he was waiting for us back at the beach entrance, but there were also many other cabs lined up waiting to take people back to the ships. We are cruising again this March and are planning on repeating the same beach day!!

So, how do you get from the ship to shore at Nassau? I read that being able to actually dock at Castaway Cay is unique, so what is the usual method?

The ship docks right in Nassau - all you do is walk to the end of the dock and taxi's are waiting there. It is about a 10 minute taxi ride to Paradise Island.

It's not unusual to dock at most ports of call.

Docking is unusual at private islands, however. Disney's private island is the only cruise-line-owned private island with a dock big enough for the ship. All other cruise lines "tender in" their passengers to the island. This means the ship anchors offshore and the passengers are ferried to the island using a smaller boat (called a "tender").
