****Official August 2015 Check-In Thread****

My mom, daughter and I decided that we could not miss the 60th Anniversary celebration this year so we randomly booked a trip in August. We are going to stay at the Hojo from August 18 - 24. I know it's going to be crowded, hot and crazy but that's okay. We've seen it all before so we are just going to roll with it and take in the Disney magic!

It's the last week of school here in Victoria! Come on Summer!!!

Anyone taking chances with F! FP instead of doing a meal? It seems like everyone is going with meals to see this show. I'm really reluctant as I wouldn't plan to eat at BB otherwise, and if we did, we wouldn't all get desserts. It seems like a lot of money, especially for my DDs.

We're doing CC WOC lunch on the 17th as well. I'd stick with lunch instead of dinner because it's much cheaper ($20 more per adult for dinner, I think.) And at lunch you'll get a nice break from the heat.

I've been debating that as well. WOC dinner package will cost us as much or more than our dinner at Napa Rose! And I like the mid-day break idea (not that we aren't used to heat). I may just move the dinner to a lunch anyway and worry about the parade and such separately.

$57 difference is at least a couple of shirts or souvenirs... :)

I am leaning towards taking my chances with a FP for F!. I was looking at Aladdin's Oasis to pickup a meal but then I realized that the fast pass you get there is no different than one that I can pickup on my own, is that right?

I'll be down to cover D23 on the Saturday and Sunday and will be in the park on the Saturday evening.

My husband and I are going to be in DLR Aug 13th-15th. It is my 3rd visit and my husbands first! Can't wait!

Yes, I believe so. I think they are just offering that as a "since you have to sit for a while anyway, here's a grab and go meal you can eat while you sit."

I am coming to DL and CA August 11th to 13th. I'm coming with my three grandchildren ages 12, 12, and 15. I think we are staying at The Sheraton which has a new name now. I like that they have a dedicated shuttle. I've stayed there a few times. Nice restaurant, room service, BIG rooms and great prices.

I'm torn on making TS reservations. My family goes regularly, so it's not like this is a once-in-a-lifetime, but it's our big summer trip. In the past, we've done TS for one meal (usually dinner) during our big trip. However, now we have 18 month old twins and our 5 year old to deal with. Would anywhere be worth the challenge and keep the kids entertained? I should also note we try to avoid breakfast places because my 5-year-old is allergic to eggs and peanuts and breakfast is the hardest meal to manage with these issues.

I'm torn on making TS reservations. My family goes regularly, so it's not like this is a once-in-a-lifetime, but it's our big summer trip. I don't plan many TS for my family either, except for a couple character meals. But I do plan a few dinner or lunch TS to break it up a little. We like the CS options at DLR, which helps.

Carnation Cafe is a new favorite of my DHs, who usually dislikes when I make reservations. Yummy food and a very entertaining spot right on Main Street with so much happening. I have lunch scheduled for there this trip. We also love Storytellers for lunch- it's a nice, cool and quiet break from DCA, and so close that even though you are technically leaving the park, it's not like you are really leaving in terms of time or distance. I don't typically make a reservation for that until the day before or morning of. Even just showing up there is fine for lunch- I make it a later lunch and we never have a problem. I'll also be making a reservation for WCT for my DH and DD3 for their afternoon together and one at Rainforest for my DD5 and my afternoon together. Those are also kid-friendly places.

Tough call...is the 5 year old a huge Princess fan? If so, maybe Ariel's for lunch? (I *think* breakfast and lunch are character meals?)

All of them love the princesses. Maybe I'll give that a try.

I completely forgot about Rainforest Cafe. That might work out well, too. Thank you.

Rainforest can get quite loud, depending on the little ones, it might be a bit much?

Yes. My DD3 freaked out there last year and still reminds us of how much she didn't like the gorilla and that she never wants to go again. ;) My Dd5 however, loves it, and requested to go again this year. That's why I'm making a reservation for just us and DD3 and DH will go to WCT. :) Some kids love it. Some hate it.

We're going towards the end of the month and are trying to get in all of our reservations in as they open up. Weird thing is that the Fantasmic packages are a few days behind for some reason, so it's causing us some problems trying to plan. They also don't have any August schedule up (the second week was available last night but not today). I'm guessing they're trying to finalize when they're going to start shortening hours, but we keep checking daily. We were really worried that we'd have to use a day of our passes on the Saturday we get there (and try to get there in time at 6), but they had the packages available on Sunday so I think we're okay now. I'd really like to move it to a weekday if it comes available since I think it'll be less busy than the weekends.

We were going to get a rental car from downtown disney and head out to San Diego afterwards. After looking at the shuttle/uber/taxi/towncar prices from LAX to Disney, just for fun I checked on a rental car for the duration of the whole trip (pickup/drop off at LAX). If anyone else is looking, take a look at Alamo. They have some kind of a deal on their small SUV rental and it only ran me $200 for 10 days (half the price of the smallest car option) - it was less than the combined cost of transportation from LAX and the cost of the rental car we were going to get from downtown disney for 5 days.

I had the same problem with the Fantasmic dinner package as well. I called DD directly and they were able to make a reservation for me. I wanted BB for August 23 and online it would only allow up to the 22nd. The CM said she noted it was a Fantasmic dinner package but I'm going to call back and make sure.

I'll be at Disneyland for the last few days of August, the 30th and 31st (for my hubby's birthday!) and then the first week of September. So I have been haunting both boards!! I just love planning!

I still have a few weeks until I can reserve anything, but I plan on Blue Bayou for our first time with the F! Dinner Package, and Carthay Circle for the lunch WOC package.

It will be my 5th trip and I am happy to say there are still a few places to discover! I think the kids will love playing at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, which has been closed on almost all of my trips. I can't wait to ride my favorites Tower of Terror and Indiana Jones again!

I am having fun collecting jewelry and hair pieces for my Disneybound outfits, I'm afraid my suitcases are already loaded with supplies!

I told my husband he better hope I can't stand the August heat, because if I can, we're going to have to move to Disneyland... Er, Anaheim. We're both from Washington state and used to a wetter climate. We are both first time AP holders! And it is killing me to wait till August to activate them! So, you know, I keep coming up with hypothetical cheap vacations! Like, if we stayed in a Motel 6 in the next town? If we rented a car and just slept in it? Just kidding, totally kidding!

60 something days to go... If anyone has pictures of their Disney outfits, Disneybound, homemade shirts, whatever, please share them!
