Tuesday Oct 30- Island of Adventure!

Me-40: lover of theme parks and roller coasters
Dh-44: very understanding guy, would rather be sitting under a palm tree somewhere
ds-12- doesn’t like anything with big hills but loves simulator rides
dd-7- will probably be riding hulk as soon as she’s tall enough!

We start the day with breakfast at the Trattatoria, good food. Children’s meal is just the right size for my 7 year old. It’s pretty chilly out this morning and we’re glad we have our windbreakers with us. It’s almost 9am when we get to the gate. They are checking backpacks and fanny packs after you go through the turnstiles. I really love the music as you go through Port of Entry. If you’ve never been to the park take notice of the change of music as you enter each “island”.

First stop, Spiderman!! No wait. My daughter is a little worried about going on this ride. Last time she went on it at age 5, it really scared her. But this time she was fine. She didn’t keep her glasses on but declared it fun afterwards! Next on to hulk, used express line but didn’t need it. No wait except for front seat. It doesn’t matter how many times I go on this ride I always get a little ball of excitement in my stomach before take-off!

Off to Seuss Landing. We luck out! Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2 are just coming out. Pat and I have our ds take our picture with the characters! Our kids would not do it, geez. I take my daughter to Mulligan’s pool to throw a coin in the fish’s mouth. It’s easy to tell where to do this because the paint is worn away. If I Ran the Zoo didn’t open until 11am so we head to Cat in The Hat. Everything seems to be working. My dh skipped this ride to go in search of coffee. This was when he ran into the first of many nice employees on this trip. He asked the ride attendant in front of CITH what was open that served coffee. She told him to wait right there and she went and got him a cup!

We stop for some photo ops at Horton’s egg. It’s located in a little courtyard next to next to the Cat in the Hat gift shop. After a quick ride on the carroseussel we go on One fish Two fish. It’s a chilly morning so the water effects aren’t on yet. My dd is disappointed, she really wanted to squirt me!

The kids have been looking forward to Camp Jurassic so we head that way via Sneetch Beach. Walking through the Lost Continent, we passed the Mystic Fountain. This is one of my favorite attractions at the park, it’s so funny. It’s was talking to a couple of little girls and squirting everyone it could reach! My dd threw some coins in but she went in from the side so it didn’t see her.

We stopped at a popcorn stand for a snack. My kids were next in line but a British man stepped in front of them. I leaned over and said , VERY loudly, that my kids were next. It came out much more forcefully than I intended, sigh. :( :( He mumbled that I didn’t need to be so aggressive. Then he told the employee to wait on my kids. I was very embarrassed at my overreaction and spent some time explaining that to my kids.

Batteries recharged, the kids are excited to go to Camp Jurassic. The wait for Pteradon flyers is only 20 min so dd and I decide to wait. If you’re over 52” you have to be with a child, 36-52” tall in order to ride. Express line isn’t available for this. It’s was cute ride but very short. The sign states it’s 86 seconds from start to finish and part of that is loading and unloading! We find the rest of the family. My ds has managed to get dh pretty wet. There’s an area where you can shoot at each other with water cannons. We always have fun in here. There are rope walkways to run across and climb, lava caves to explore and slides to slide down.

It’s time for lunch so we head for Mythos. We’re seated immediately. This meal was one of the highlights of our trip. The atmosphere really is amazing as is the food. Our server was “Mefestus” (sp?) aka Doug. He was great! Total before tip was $54. We used our AP discount, saved us $8. If you like chocolate, try the warm banana gooey cake, mmmmm.

After lunch dh, dd and I went on the Jurassic Park ride. Wait time was 5 min but we rode in the next available boat. Ds was allowed to wait in the gift shop. Weeks before we left she said she wanted to go on JP this time so I prepared my daughter by telling her all about the ride before we ever left NH. I think the teens in front of us were getting annoyed because she kept whispering questions to me. Oh, well they’ll understand some day. I had warned her about the ending so she knew to close her eyes. Afterward, she said she wanted to ride again!

It was time for the next Sinbad show. We really like this show. It’s very corny and funny. If you’re using express, you enter through the exit. It’s nice because you get to sit closer.

Next back to Seuss Landing, so Erica can play in “If I ran the Zoo”. She ended up getting pretty wet but you don’t have to. It’s very colorful and there are many hands on things to do. My ds is too old for this now so dh and ds go in search of a snack.

My daughter want to go on Spiderman Again but my son wants to go to the arcade. He loves arcades and we never go to them at home so off goes he and hubby. The wait time at Spiderman was 20 min but we got right on with the magic key! Erica keeps her glasses on the whole time. She said her favorite part was the very end!

There were plenty of characters around, Spiderman, Dr. Doom (who kept asking people if they’d seen Donna), green goblin and others.

It’s a little chilly for the water rides so we skip them for today. The kids play at “Me Ship the Olive” for a while. This is near the Bluto Bilge Rat ride. There are water cannons on the top level and you can squirt people on the ride. Unfortunately people tend to hog them but eventually the kids got a turn.

The kids are getting a little cranky so we get french fries and water for them. For the grownups, Confisco Concoctions at the Backwater Bar hit the spot! We ran into the same bartender last year, Suzanne. She’s really nice, tell her hi!

It’s getting late so we start wandering towards the exit. First I want to stop in the Christmas shop. I read a tip that if you pick up a Christmas ornament when you’re on vacation it’s a fun reminder when you decorate your tree every year. When dh and I were here in Nov/00 we got a Cat in the hat bulb. This trip I got a Grinch bulb. Betty Boop seems to be very well represented in the ornament selection.

We return to the hotel to rest for a while before dinner. We’re in the mood for Chinese food so the hotel concierge for a recommendation. The said a place called Trey Yuen was good. It’s located across from Wet and Wild in kind of a little mall. It was very good food and friendly service. If you ever go there look at the ceiling. It’s very ornate and beautiful. We ate like kings for $59.

Tomorrow-Universal Studios.

Oh Renee, you made my day! A wonderful trip report and a special message from Dr. Doom! Next best thing to being there myself :) . I love all the details you put in your report.
DH and I got to ride PF without any kids by going there first thing in the morning. (Thanks to the hint from Jim's wife, Serena). I have to admit that I was very scared on this ride as it seemed to swing an awful lot around corners and I was sure we were going to fly right off the rigging! I assumed it was due to our weight. Did it swing much with you and your DD? If she rode PF and JP, she must be brave girl and I am sure as soon as she is tall enough she will be your Hulk partner.
Gotta go watch the rest of our Miracle on 34th Street tape (Thanksgiving family tradition - on Christmas eve it is Donovans Reef)
Again, Happy Thanksgiving to you and thank you for this report. It really was a special treat. :D

BTW did you tell Dr. Doom to cross his fingers and wish me luck in getting back? Every little bit helps...LOL.

Aloha
Donna
